Im a native speaker of both Swedish and English myself, how that even proved possible I can only speculate about lol, but I've spoken both languages since I was a toddler and I do believe the american-anglicised culture here for the past 20-30 years have played a really important role indeed. And yeah, because of Sweden being a welfare state and therefore not producing the same kind of meaning to the songs and the different "Euro" sound it stands out from regular hip hop/rap from the states.

@slutmonkey I'd say a contributing factor is that there are no TV or movie voiceovers in scandinavia like there is in Germany/France/Spain. Subtitles are your friend if you want to learn a foreign language. I guess that's the case in the Netherlands as well as suppoesedly they are the best english speakers that don't have english as their native language.

I would say that one major factor is that foreign television shows/movies isn't voiced over.

At least that's what made my english somewhat ok (I really sucked at english grammar in school). I started off by watching south park with swedish texts and playing computer games in english and that helped me a great deal. Today I always remove the text from movies and read all my course litterature / books in english.

@slutmonkey8 I think it's 'cause we don't have voice-over on movies and series here as they have in other countries and many don't use subtitles at all since we understand it anyway. English is on our schedules from the age of 8 'til we are about 18 or 19 years old. I'm a student on a university and almost all of my books is on english. So.. it must be because many of us swedish are surrounded with english everyday and use it everyday (most by reading or listening, but still)
