@CuyahogaMustang I went to a perscription eyeware place and had to look through some catalogs. This was back in the late 80's. I imagine it's still possible to find them now. If I remember these frames had to be orderd from Italy or something.
@Byrds1967 wow david this is a great cover of goin' back. alot of love went into all the time and effort to make a visual as well as audio record of the greater works of the byrds. thanks.I to love the byrds work and always wanted a few tips of mcguinn's fretboard work, and I always get it watching you. I see mcguinn now uses and endorses the jangle box. do you like it or the onboard compessor of the 370-12? by the way what kind of amp did mcguinn use on classic byrds recordings?
@TheBabyboomkidof53 I like the Jangle Box better than the onboard compressor. The onboard compressor is really noisy when you are not playing (lots of static sound). And the 9V battery is a pain to change with the onboard...you have to take off both pick guards to get to it. As far as amps McGuinn used...he didn't. He always went directly into the board with two tube compressors in line. As far as live gigs...I don't know what he used back in the day.
@Byrds1967 thanks....I'll check out the jangle box and see how it works on my line 6 guitar set on the rick 360 -12 setting. I cant afford the real thing. it is'nt bad but the box ought to give it a more realistic sound.
@TheBabyboomkidof53 The jangle box ain't cheap as stomp pedals go.... I haven't heard what a line 6 can do for a RIC sound either....so best of luck to you. Keep your eyes peeled on Ebay. You can get an authentic RIC there for pretty cheap these days.
Hello, Great cover, as all your covers are. I'll ask the same question as below. What did you use to generate your backing track? It's really a great match to the orginal. I use Pro Tools 8.0 which has Xpand2, Vacuum and Boom etc but I have found nothing that gives me sounds as real as what you have here. I have posted a few videos here on You Tube but I am resisting posting more until I can generate better backing tracks. Thanks for any info... A fellow long time Byrds fan. Al
I'm awestruck as I sit here listening to all of your Byrd song covers. The tone and vocals are all impeccably executed and achieve a remarkably clean sound. You've done many of my favorites already, but if I were allowed one request I would ask for Everybody's Been Burned. I actually became infatuated with this song via an excellent cover by Sebedoh, and it has become one of my top five Byrds songs. Anyway thank you for all the great versions you've already blessed us with. Much appreciated.
A M A Z I N G DAVID!!! Very, Very well done. You performed that song in a very nice way and all the other tracks are GREAT as well. THIS SONG MAY VERY WELL BE YOUR BEST ON YOUTUBE!!! Thanks for posting this gem.
Great performance of the Byrds rendition of a Carole King song. I was just watching on YouTube a video of Bob Dylan performing "Like a Rolling Stone" and there, playing the piano, was Carole King. I'm sure she was pleased with the Byrds performing two of her songs. No doubt she'd be also pleased with David Whitt also covering two of her songs.
David: What a pleasant surprise-- you're back!! I always loved this Byrds' gem. Again, your engineering IS getting better and the Rick sounds awesome!!!! Keep 'em coming!!!! You have the BEST BYRDS covers on the Tube!!!!
Very pretty, and an interesting "companion piece" to "My Back Pages", no? :-) I was not familiar with this one, David, but, then, you've "forgotten more about The Byrds than most of us will ever know" *chuckle!*. Thank you for bringing it to my attention, and, by the way, I think your *engineering* is getting better, too! It's always good, but somehow this is "cleaner" then even your usually high standards. Bravo!
u look just like mcguinn, i think the harmony it's a little out of tune. love the sound of that guitar.

Very tasty cover of one of my favorite Notorious Byrd Brothers songs. Great job on the background as well as the live recording. Loved it!

What a good cover, the haunting guiter rifts, and you stayed as close to the original Bryrds as can be done, with just you at it. well done.

It's nice to see that The Byrds are not only still remembered but also appreciated. They were my favorite group in the late 50s. Nicely done, too!

I recorded it myself. If I could have found Byrds backing tracks it would have made my life a lot easier.

Excellent version! Keep on doing what you're doing!! Don't forget that it's possible to use a McGuinn voice on 'Mind Gardens'.
