Personally, I like the first Hidden Blade design you did, because it's a simple flick of the wrist for it to come out [if you're looking for subtlety] rather than pretty much yanking it out.

Although the second design is awesome as well if you want people to see it retract back underneath your wrists. If there was only some way to have both extension and retraction as subtle as possible, this would look exactly like Ezio's Hidden Blade [minus the cosmetic outer metal shell].

Definately the best mechanism i've seen, the only thing that could get improved is some kind of "blocking-mechanism" then the blade is drawn. As u showed us in your first vid, you can just grab the knive and slice, but to be truly assassins-like, the knive should stay out while u stick it into something ... fleshy :P

Anyway, really great job! Fascinating mechanism.

i love how every blade i see on these videos all have spring mechanisms and magnets in a drawer slider when the actual specifications that are shown throughout the game (which are more practicable anyway) are always using gear systems on an internal 3 part sliding mechanism

lets talk about usability of this blade... if you get into the real fight wielding this, and you want to hit somebody with your fists... when you swing at somebody, your blade would go out and you will kill your opponent... soo... this design is good, maybe for halloween, but for anything else you will need to improove the mechanism...

@cwalkerXxblur By throwing your arm forward quickly you "throw" or "thrust" the blade out and then it catches the locking mechanism. There's nothing special about it but it's a good way to allow for a retracting blade, especially if a small magnet was added to the end to stop it shaking like he said in the video.

This is exactly the way I'm going to build mine, save for one thing: Instead of having the screw move over the locking mechanism (which I have a feeling takes more force than my idea), I'm going to have a piece of metal fall into one of the drawer slide's manymanymany holes.

And just for fun I'm going to add a party popper "hidden gun" teehee :P

Well, from the blade's design, it would be more useful in stabbing, as it's too thin and blunt for cutting like the real Hidden Blade. That aside, it's an awesome piece of work! If you wanted to, you COULD actually kill someone with it! Leonardo Da Vinci would be proud. :)
