We live in the darkness blinded by our desires, and we refuse to leave it because we got used to that and because its part of out natures too.
When we're one step away from the light and revelations we just turn our backs to it.
Iceflowers, the flowers that live in the darkness, pale and cold. We are cold towards everything, we pale before the troubles. This is my intrepetation.
That's really interesting how people have entirely different interpretations! O.O
I always understood it to be more a song of outsiders of society - of difference, and acceptance. They're iceflowers - they cannot be like everybody else (live in daylight) cause that would kill them and they can only find their true destiny if they stand by themselves and face the darkness (that they are different).
Anyway thank you for the comment!! Very interesting and it made me think! :)
So basicaly the video is a critic to humanity itself. Our actions and the consequences of it, how we hide our true natures and how everything is revelead.
This is a beauttiful language and i like the MV. I want to learn how to speak german. Anyway, where can i download the english version of this song? Please respond ASAP. Thanks
At 1:46 nothing is said about "masks of sadness". Only that they "clothe/garb/robe themselves in sadness/sorrow."
At 2:03 it should be "and look Night in the face."
Also, I feel it's noteworthy to mention that Eisblumen--while literally meaning "Ice Flowers/Flowers of Ice" isn't actually that, per se. You see, Eisblumen are--more accurately--Frost Flowers found on windowpanes.
I hope this helped! And, again, I really dont mean to sound rude; I just want to help! =D
Okay, I agree with you, the masks of sadness was a little artistic freedom I took. ;) I just didn't know if in English it would make sense to say "robe yourself in sadness".
But thanks for your input! I appreciate it very much. May I ask, are you a professional translator?
Thanks for not taking what I said the wrong way! I see, so you translate more artistically? That's not to say you alter the song's meaning terribly, or that you do it poorly! In fact, I thought some of the lyrics went quite well with the song.
Also, thanks for correcting ME! I had never, up until now, heard "der verhangene Mond." So I made an ignorant comment =/. Sorry.
And, no, I'm not a professional translator =p. I've just been speaking/translating German seriously for some time now.
Okay, first of all: "der verhangene Mond" means that the moon is hidden behind clouds and cannot be seen. And your example of blooming and full bloom is exactly what I meant by meaning. For the meaning of the song it doesn't make a difference. The song wants to express that they can only come out and shine during the night, so it would also be their full bloom.
And day and daylight doesn't really make that much of a difference, except that to my ears daylight sounds more beautiful. ;)
Thank you for your comment. I see what you mean by this.
What I do when I translate is I try to translate meaning, not words. So I know where you are going with your suggestions and you are right in most of them. But is there a difference in meaning whether you look into the face of night or darkness for example?
Translating is for me not a mere convertion of words into another language, but also trying to bring over the meaning in a poetic, beautiful language.
wtf,wat u mean the vid dont make sense. i 4 one do think it makes total sense, thrr might be some places that r off but it pretty much covrrse enough of the song.
Thanks Kimberly! I wanted to know what the song was in English! Now I can mumble it in class and have the teachers get mad at me! ^^ But I love this song, it`s so beautiful. *cries*
Thank you very much for the translation! I'm learning german too and my boyfriend [which is german] showed me this song and I was wondering what it meant. Now i finally know! Thank you very much!
this is amazing! I'm learning german and i was totally enchanted by this song when i heard it...i was ambitious enough to attempt an english version of the song, with rhymes and all! I'm sure your translation will help me understand it better =)
Yes it's a very hard song. LOL Even for me as German, the language sounds very artificial and abstract at times. :)) I'd be thrilled to see your lyrics once you're finished, so please share them... ^^
Thank you Kimberley for making this video! I am learning German myself and could pick out parts of the song but not the whole thing. and this really is a beautiful song i love it!
This is so my next makeup tutorial!!!
I love German music so much! So different from all the commercial crap on the radio all the time!

Thanks for the comment back too :)
Yea, there are many intepretations it just depends on how we see things.
It was an analysis of the first time I heard it with lyrics so it was all heart and soul.
Your seems plausible too :)

How about posting both the German and English on the video - then we students can see both !
Keep up with this wonderful idea -! You should call the ROsetta stone folks!

Hey, I'm a fellow translator. I don't want to sound like a prick, but there are quite a few errors in the translation.
For example, at 0:15. A more accurate translation would be: "Day flees from the city hurriedly." "Daylight" isn't even mentioned =/.
Also, at 0:27 the translation veers way off course. It should be: "and gives its [the city] true appearance value/worth."
At 0:32. The "Piles of Water" should be "puddles".
At 0:41 "Himmel" is "the sky/heavens" not "horizon".
DiexFlamme 2 years ago
At 0:51 it should be "the paleness snowing from our cheeks makes us beautiful, like Angels."
At 1:02 all the lyrics say is that: "and pray that the moon remains hanging [in the sky]."
At 1:07 they lyrics say nothing about being "in full bloom"; merely that the Eisblumen bloom in the night.
At 1:12 again "daylight" is not mentioned. The translation should be "far/way too beautiful for the DAY." Same with 1:40, change "daylight" to "day".
