because they used convergence, which he wrote for bodysong, in the there will be blood score. which makes it not an original score. otherwise it would have won :)
why do you care about oscars and shit..why not any other award then why is the oscar so goddamn special? does he needs a piece of metal for you to enjoy it?

@thehemuliman If you didn't see them already, try seeing "My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown" from 1989 and "Eversmile, New Jersey" which was release in the same year. cheers
when he's dragging himself out of the mine toward some faraway help, ooooooh man. that was raw musical power! they unearthed the balrog in them mines man.
Yeah - I don't know why when I wrote that I thought he did when I knew he was disqualified because not all the music on it was original. It was a tiny bit of something else that he used that disqualified him.
@Ocelot006 I know, he should've been. The problem was not that they didn't love it, or didn't want to nominate him, but it was ineligible due to it's use of existing material.
It is not really "bullshit". it was a brilliant score, that deserved a nomination, except it was outside the rules for consideration for best score, since it contained two songs, "Popcorn Superheat Receiver" & "Convergence", that Greenwood wrote for the 2003 film "Bodysong" soundtrack he did.
Academy rules state:
"scores diluted by the use of tracked themes or other pre-existing music are not eligible for nomination"
@Ocelot006 It IS bullshit, but I believe Greenwood's soundtrack was disqualified due to his choice of incorporating music by Brahms in it. According to the academy, a nominated soundtrack has to be "pure" - that is, all of it has to be the film composer's work alone. Greenwood included Brahms, and was thus not nominated.
But it is bullshit, I completely agree on that. There Will Be Blood had by far the best movie soundtrack in 2007. The academy sucks, plain and simple.

You reward the movie and its soundtrack on your own by loving it.
No amount of gold smelted into the shape of a nude man can change your love for it.
So why care whether or not one was given out?

Au diable les récompenses, les oscars, les titres, ces choses encombrantes, seule compte la musique et l'éternité qu'elle apporte !

Fuck the Oscars. Quality doesn't need to be rewarded, only remembered.

The minimalistic nature of this piece makes it touch your soul in such a way few compositions do in this century.

Whoah, Johnny Greenwood's the lead guitarist for Radiohead.
Had no idea he did the score for this film.
