thank god for green white checkerd finishes now a days i always hated when big races like this ended under caution but on the other had if we always had gwc finished earnhardt sr might not have won his 500.... but im sooo glad we have it today :)
While this race wasn't great, I'd watch it over this year's Daytona 500 any day of the week, which had about 15 cautions (a Daytona 500 record), over half the field out of the race, this pathetic 2 car tandem bullshit (pack racing's WAY better), and while I do give props to Trevor Bayne for winning this year's race and becoming the youngest winner in the 500, there was at least 10-15 other drivers that should've won that race but either got wrecked or had other misfortunes
You edited out the key moment of the race, when Jeff Burton hung Mark Martin (his own teammate) out whenever Martin made his move on Benson. Burton chose to follow Dale Jarrett instead. Martin had the best car in this race and never recovered. Back then, it took 30 laps to recover from getting shuffled out in the front of the pack. Much different from today. To this day, I've never seen Mark Martin speak about this race. Outside of 2007, it was his best chance to win the 500.
@RyanTheIncredible882 The first half was good, but in the second half nothing exciting happened. The entire field spread out because of the long green flag run and the finish was hardly a contest.
man, if Johnny Benson only coulda pulled it off :P but geez, this caution situation they had was a mess. it's good they came up with green-white-checker finishes
Now here's a race Jimmie Johnson can't win with Knaus. When he won the 2006 Daytona 500, Darian Grubb was his (temporary) crew chief. I know most people already know this, but I'm just trying to make a point.
Dude, why do so many people hold a grudge on today's NASCAR. I agree the whole corporate sponsorship thing is a bit out of hand, but other than that, what?
@drzchulo1993 FUCK YOU!!!!!!!! your just jealous that hes a better driver than your favorite driver, dont hate on him, I've been his fan since the 2003 season so don't call me a fan boy
@drzchulo1993 Jimmie Johnson would be a more likable driver if he didn't win only because of the Chase... he's a good driver but he's only won 5 in a row because the Chase allows that kinda crap to happen!
@coltcub64 In a perfect world the championship battle would always be close, I just don't like how they have to FORCE IT to be close, let things play out, and usually it was only like 1 race left is when a champ was crowned at earliest... I like the new system and it might actually work with the Chase because everything is so bunched up anyway, but then again we may not need a Chase if things just remain close because the Chase doesn't show who was the best all year long!
As a Benson fan, this race was awesome. Lousy finish, but this was the pivotal movement after Roush that helped to show Johnny's potential, that and his Winston Cup win on my 18th birthday. Speaking of which, if you can find that somewhere please drop me an email
even though this was not a top rated daytona 500, a least this was better racing then we got today. Nascar's got so many new stupid rules, that it took out the fun out of racing.
If Nascar would bring back some of the old rules, Racing probably would be more fun.
And prevent all the young prospects from coming into the sport (e.g., Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt jr., Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch...)? You're a fuckin idiot. Quit watching nascar and get the fuck off youtube.
I agree with that and NASCAR needs to bring back that engine sound u hear in this video because the car of tomorrow sounds so much different compared to that but i still love NASCAR :) Go Jimmie Johnson!!! #48
Benson is the last of his kind. he came in as a "young" 30 year old, and has real raw talent, but all nascar owners want is young guys who they let go after a year with them...its a shame
One of the only 500's that made me go to sleep.... and not for a minute. I mean a while! Nice to see my favorite driver winning, but I wish there was a better race.
And as much as I love Jarrett, I wish Benson would have won.
Agreed 3000%. Could not have said that any better. And I was seven when I first starting watching NASCAR in 1997. I'm sad what this sport has become: a mainstream dictatorship that the Junior Nation rules.
I agree Nascar went from being all racing to a complete joke now, I barely even watch it now because of it. I got a bunch of old races on VHS and DVD and watch those instead since it's racing not a joke
I was rooting for Johnny Benson to win, It would have been an amazing upset seeing the #10 Lycos Pontiac pull in to victory lane, but a caution ruined that one...This really was the only exciting part of the race
Benson had that race won!!!
