I know I have this, although my doctor hasn't "diagnosed" me with it yet. My half-sister is a nurse and has this, as does my twin sister, and we all have the same symptoms. I believe I've possibly had this since I was a teenager, I remember feeling so exhausted all the time, and even in college, when everyone else had all this energy. I am going to go to an endocrinologist soon to pursue more blood work (Hashi's doesn't show up in the standard TSH labwork.)
Hypothyroidism is a symptom of Hashimoto's thyroiditis so having hypothyroid symptoms does not make it Hashi's. I have it and the years I went un-medicated I stopped growing, was extremely sensitive to cold (wearing jackets on a warm summer day), and had muscle failures. Though I did not progress so far it can also reduce your mental capability(special Ed.). If you only exhibit Hypothyroid symptoms this does not mean you have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis
Hashimotos is directly linked to autoimmune responses to Gluten, Cassein and even soy. I could go on forever, but if you want simple clarification, I found some on youtube user "clarkchiro". He speaks sense. And most of us eat such rubbish, it's amazing we can function at all.
I'm (just turned) 21, and was diagnosed with this. I'm pretty sure I've had this since I was 9, though. Doctors refused to go further than checking my thyroid, which was fine (and still is thankfully)
They never tested further to see that my antibodies were trying to kill my thyroid.
I've been morbidly obese for years, despite my STRICT dieting, at one point 500 calories a day.
I'm surprised you didn't mention children can have it too. It's possible; rare, but possible.
in a old case of hashimoto, and current hyperthyroidism. Would the own antibodies kill of areas of the thyroid, like numbing the thyroid for then neutraulizing the hyperthyroid..limiting the tsh?
Thank you I can't find enough to understand Hashimotos on the net

^_^ this trully did save my histo lab report on chronic inflammation... There's not much about Thyroditis in Wheaters's.
