China can than turn around and buy natural resources from Canada, some countries in Africa and South America. If China were to stop buying US treasury there would be inflation on the US dollar and value of homes would go down and there would be a run on the dollar. In other words Americans would no longer be able to buy Chinese goods.

Second, there is absolutely no comparison between the Chinese and American judicial systems. The US system has independent judges and juries and is designed to afford the defendant every advantage; the Chinese have show trials with pre-determined verdicts using puppet judges and no juries.
@RWT683 I don't think you are correct that it is unconstituional in the US. Can't you be executed for treason during war time? Also, in my job I see the effects of narcotics on people. I also know a lot of good people who in the past used narcotics. Would they have used them if they had known that their would be harsh consequences like death or life in prison. The use of illegal narcotics effects many people. People in Mexico are dying brutal deaths due to the appetite for these drugs by some.
@elnick1000 The case is Kennedy v. Louisiana (2008). The court ruled that crimes against individuals where life was not taken cannot be punished with death. The ruling left intact death for crimes against the state. So you can still be executed under US federal law for treason, espionage, terrorism, etc. It does not apply to military crimes either (like desertion).
@elnick1000 Does the death penalty or life in prison stop people from committing murder now? I don't think it would help your friends get off drugs. I support the death penalty when it is morally appropriate. But it is not a deterrent to crime. Not unless they make executions public.

His family appealed and claimed he wasn't involved in drugs and had mental illness. The Chinks didn't consider the appeal. I know independent UK companies have been caught using harvested organs for testing, cosmetics, etc - but I refuse to believe the NHS uses them. The UK is anti-death penalty. Using harvested organs from executed people would contravene the UK's non-death penalty policy which has been in place for years. The EU is anti-death penalty also. Therefore I find these claims impossible to accept.

It's not as if the British government would buy organs in bulk to dispense to it's citizens. They get around this by making it legal for it's citizens to buy the organs individually. Only a tiny fraction of people executed are for economic reasons and recently China has dropped 13 economic death penalty infractions. The majority of people executed are for murder, rape and child pedophilia.

China can than turn around and buy natural resources from Canada, some countries in Africa and South America. If China were to stop buying US treasury there would be inflation on the US dollar and value of homes would go down and there would be a run on the dollar. In other words Americans would no longer be able to buy Chinese goods.

They didn't say where he was caught with the heroin but the problem is if you fly, your baggage is removed from your control. Someone in the baggage chain could place contraband in your baggage at one airport and it could be caught in a screening at the destination. The last time I flew, I noticed many people wrap their bags in plastic wrap to ensure no one can access it easily.

I don't always agree with what China does, but in this case, I have to side with them. While I feel bad for his family, I wonder what effect such a sentence would have in countries like the US if such sentences were handed down. It was silly for the US to also protest this descision when we have the death sentence in our country. Also this idea that China has to respect "international opinion". If the man had been a Chinese citizen, would international opinion have weighed in?

@elnick1000 First, the death penalty for anything other than a crime resulting in loss of life has been ruled unconstitutional in the US. Second, there is absolutely no comparison between the Chinese and American judicial systems. The US system has independent judges and juries and is designed to afford the defendant every advantage; the Chinese have show trials with pre-determined verdicts using puppet judges and no juries.

I also know a lot of good people who in the past used narcotics. Would they have used them if they had known that their would be harsh consequences like death or life in prison. The use of illegal narcotics effects many people. People in Mexico are dying brutal deaths due to the appetite for these drugs by some.

@elnick1000 The case is Kennedy v. Louisiana (2008). The court ruled that crimes against individuals where life was not taken cannot be punished with death. The ruling left intact death for crimes against the state. So you can still be executed under US federal law for treason, espionage, terrorism, etc. It does not apply to military crimes either (like desertion).

Drug addiction is a social problem and a medical problem, not a criminal one. It is a victimless crime. These people need medical help, not to be thrown into prison where they can learn how to be real criminals.
