Chan does a great job on this song. This is a Joni Mitchell tune. I read through some of the comments and thought I'd ad this from Wiki. Just some info on the tune,...
"Blue" is the title song from Joni Mitchell's 1971 album of the same name. There has been persistent speculation that the song is about fellow songwriter David Blue, who was a friend and possible love interest of Mitchell's when the album was released. She has denied the connection.
It's like she pulls from all of the greatest American musical traditions, much as Europeans always have, and blends them together and infuses them with new life. She really makes me proud to be American and an artist.
McLachlan version in unbearable. Her vocal acrobatics suck all real emotion out and make the song sound contrived. Chan gives the song teeth. She's the real deal and knows her depression well. Sarah is all style and no substance.
@poeticjournalism This Cat Power version misses the mark entirely - the original Joni Mitchell is full of emotion and despair, which Sarah McLachlan captures in her version but still put her personal stamp on it. Cat Power manages to put her personal stamp on this version, but it has totally lost the emotion and despair - she is singing it as though it is just another jazz/blues standard. That is what I meant by it being contrived.
Anyone notice her hair forms a heart in the wind?

@KMO325 I disagree - the best cover I have heard is by Sarah McLachlan. I think Cat Power's version is contrived.

@kellofrog really, cause I think it's the opposite. McLachlan is nothing but contrivance.
