  • SB.....awesome, inspiring. great job bro

  • Stayin away from the solo I guess lol

  • notgonna lie, i expected this to be bad, but actually its pretty damn good, and how do you do the slide chokes on 3:40?

  • Real cool Job man wish I could Play half As good As you man Peace

  • Nice job, guy. What is the tuning on this song? It's been a long time since I've played it. I learned it in standard tuning, which I don't think is right. I love how you play the harmonics at the end. Once again, well done.

    Keep Pick'n

    Chris

  • hey, no steinberger or capo. i was going to say ck out the craigman, he is right over there to the right of your screen.

  • Apparently, 5 people don't know what talent is. My favorite part is at 4:07. Awesome!

  • What's up Satch, you helped inspire me to "stop dreaming and start playing". I bought a squier tele affinity with peavey blazer for a hundred yesterday (any comments), and hope to be on my way. I wanted to ask you if. you have the time to penpal a beginner with questions and concerns. You have taste and skills. You might want to ask your mom if she ever met Eddie..ha.

  • @ponch0008 hey dude, good to hear youre taking up the guitar. not familiar with the gear you bought but hey its a start. funny i was just relearning this tune last night haha. my transtrem was out of tune on this version. its not very good. i got the song down minus the solo

  • Sweet job man...make it look like its easy lol

  • nobody does it like you brother....great

  • Great song, great cover. Thank you.

  • What model of Steinberger is that exactly? And is a TT2 or TT3?

  • a little outa tune man, but still friggin rocks

  • goddamnit, dude, you rock!

  • Amazing....damn amazing. Very jealous of your ability. I could practice for the next 50 years and not play like that. Damn your musical genes!!!! Seriously, very cool broseph.

  • @msudragon91 --- This dude doesnt realize how much pussy he would get if he had his own VH tribute band

  • fuuuuuuuuuuck, you're good, is that a newburgh??? which steinberger did eddie record this with?

  • Satch ,,,,you always play it right brother!!

  • wow! thats excellent!

  • Fucking kick ass!

  • that's a hard song to play since he uses different tunings within the song. Sounded good. Hard to match the tuning on the fly.

  • thats the great thing that distinguishes rock from rap, you can do covers of rock songs but rap sounds like shit when re made.

  • Woah dude, this rocks! Tough song, too!!

  • great job man! one of my fav hagar era songs hagar Ed was all over the place hahaha kudos

  • wishh there was good lesson on this :(

  • um no solo?

  • awesome

  • As always awesome!

  • Rightous!

  • Great job - I always enjoy your video's my friend.

  • ottimo^_^

  • Unreal..

  • Who are the five aholes that voted down? Eddie Van Halen himself? My god... this was Oh-some!

  • wow...great job!

  • hello boy ... that you used in tuning your guitar?

standard tuning in "E" or some other?

    you have the tab?

  • @VitorJaZZ the intro tuning is i think 1 and 1/2 steps up then he goes down to standard for chorus and down a step i think

  • nice job...i don't think he taps that high "g" in the intro - prettu sure he hits the open G for that (check the "live without a net" video)

  • can you give me the intro tab??please?

  • Lol! Buddy that was dynamite!

  • fierce!!!

  • VERY F-ING NICE BRO

  • very very awsome sound man, whats your rig, sounds bad ass

  • I want to play this song but i cant get that speaciasl trem

  • i've been dying to buy the new steinberger. i have several guitars but the steinberger trans trem is so tempting. How do you like it? Will we see it in more videos?

  • good job M8

  • im not really sure how the bergers work, but when do you change the tunings, i would love to be able to play atleast a little riff from this song on my lp. thanks for the help

  • You can play most of the song in standard, the only parts that Ed uses the trans-trem on are the intro (which can be played just on the 6th fret, although difficult) and the little riff after the intro, which I don't think could be played without it, but you could play most of this song without a steinberger.

  • TURN OFF THE MUSIC AND LETS HEAR IT

  • perfect!

  • nice cover Satch!!!!!

  • how is your guitar tuned for this song?

  • it is up a step and a half for the intro, then standard for the verses and choruses, then one step down for the solo

  • Is that one of the new Steinberger ZT3s?

  • Yes Sir, that's damn fine playing

  • Awesome job dude.

  • yeah that was awesome

  • That was kick ass...nice job!!!

  • Very good Bro :)

  • Looks like the old Vitto Bratta Guitar....

    Is that right?

  • yep only his were white. and i think he used a single hum model. GM1T

  • @satchbooggy I thought eh used a stein burger guitar?

  • i have never seen a steiny like that was it made with a strat body to better suit the sit down guitarists

  • Damn!

  • Nice playing. NIce STEINBERGER!!!!

  • Wow outstanding!! This song looks as fun to play as it is to listen to..

  • 5 stars no less !!!!!!!!

  • very nice job. I'd like to put on of them on my SG.

  • Would one of those Gibson Robot Les Paul guitars change tuning fast enough to play this song?

  • hahahahahahaha i wish u gotta change in a limit of like 2 sec on a gibson robot u half to pull the nob out and put it to the tuning and the guitar will do the rest that will take a minimum of 15 sec.

  • In a word, NO. TransTrem only....

  • Beautiful Steinberger you have there. Mine is white (M body) and play thru Tom Scholz Rockman gear. Your tone is great what are you using for amp? Phenominal playing there with such an abstract complicated song, you amaze and inspire me friend !! P.S. If my house was on fire and I only had time to save one guitar it would be 'the Steiney' by far the best I've ever played.

  • my steiny would have to stay behind. there are a few id save before that one. I love the GM's but supposedly the GL's (oar shaped) blow anything else away by a long shot. Those graphite body/neck steins are the best of the best. I just wish they made 8 guage double ball strings. I hate heavy strings, thats why i never use my steiny

  • @satchbooggy I'd give up my kidneys and liver to have a guitar with a working TT2 in it. The TT3 on the Steinberger ZT3 is nice, but it can only go up to F# and not G. That makes playing the intro in the exact tuning impossible... you are really lucky to have a guitar with a TT2. I hear replacement parts are an absolute bitch to get and expensive, so is finding anyone that knows how to service the TT2 properly.

  • @ahyes1977 yeah the TT3 is definitely not an improvement. i hated it. when i first got this GM i was nervous because it wasnt set up right at all. i went online and learned for myself how to get it transposing correctly. I can get it pretty close now and the TT2 is just far superior to the new one. Any1 (except Ned) will say that haha

I need to redo this song someday....its off in places. If you can find an old stein, grab it...they play good but sound amazing.

  • up outta the chair! lol... i love this one

  • how do u lock the bridge and inn the middle of a song too

  • theres a little notched mechanism that you latch into. but when you are in an alternate tuning you cant use the whammy. Only when its free can you dive and yank it sharp. I'll do a little demo on it some year when i get a free second lol

  • i would shoot you to have your talent!! Nice work dude!

  • not a good complement lol

  • ok cool great cover of summer nights

  • One thing I like about the trans trem is it's not supposed to get knocked out of tune.

  • but also u cant dive bomb cuz then the bridge will lock

  • u can dive bomb and yank the bar up incredibly sharp. it only locks when you lock it. any other time it functions just like a regular whammy. kinda feels like a stiff kahler.

  • it stays in good tune but not as good as a floyd

  • r u using a steinberger?

  • im a dlr fan but watching the guitar being played on this song.......its awesome.

  • wow! that kicked serious ass!

  • god afwul

  • u OWN! this is awesome.

  • awesome- one of my favs & you did it justice- how long did it take to get the song down??

  • FFS U slapped my ass, I have one complaint, when u pickslide, add your right thumb sliding along with the pickslide, hahah(_._)

  • aw fuck ill give it a try man haha

  • that sounds pretty damn good for a line6

  • hot summer nights.. YEP.. down here it cools off to the high 70s at night if we are lucky lol... this is one of my fav vids of yours -- way cool shit at 4:07

  • that's so awesome!!!

I'm very jealous, I wish I could play that song.

  • marfavato; great job, you rock many,

  • just watching,,please keep posting, I love it!! , youtube replaced my radio. if you can please take request for older Judas P.(the sinner)?, is youtube gonna be a replacement for FM?? . yes i subscrib to your post, but sorry-i quit playing years ago (1981), just like to see such a wonderful talent that you are, please understand that guys like me gave up after decades of trying, you dont know how great it is to see talent without the entertainment biz involved

  • insane playing man, your real good! Awesome sound.

  • How did you do the begining?

  • Very,Very Nice! You sure as hell have a great TONE!!!!!

  • Dude seriously how do you get that tone? please tell me I've been looking for a while and I can't get it no matter what.

  • i think it was the spider III on green metal. maybe a touch of chorus? i cant remember but ill tell you something funny...the steinbergers have a tone all of their own. they sound different than any guitars ive used. the emg's just bite and attack like crazy in the headless wonders. so crystal clear and bitey. i just hate that it has heavier strings on it....thats why i never use it :)

  • I know im commenting on ur videos a lot but I have a question. Is that tone from a solid state line 6 spider 3? if so I know what im getting!

  • I bought the ZT3 LOOOOVE IT!!!!! You can get light guage (9's) from steinberger, I did, 10 packs lol. And you're right - noticed the tone difference from my other guitars immediately and so did everyone in the band! GREAT JOB on the VH's you are killin it!! Keep posting !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Damn (!!) that was......great. Im curious: was the solo done with a different tuning, by Eddie?

  • the beginning is 1.5 steps up , then after the 1st 12 bars he drops back to standard. then the interlude before the solo is 1 step down ...solo is presumably in standard since you cant use the whammy when its in diff. tunings....then after the solo hes back up 1.5 steps...its a crazy ass song . hes a genius to write that shit with the steinberg

  • nice job man!

  • with a trans trem how do u change the tuning by just pulling the ar back

  • Best song ever. YOU ARE AWESOME!!

  • This is my Benny Goodman if you will.

  • don't turn this song into a rap but if you do...

  • i love this damn song

    you nailed it

  • Slides Satch a cold one for that performance! Right on bro!! I love it!!

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!

  • UHHHH! damn i love this -- ur so fuckin good

  • thanks! this one needs redone. the transtrem needs tweaked just a fuzz. its a tad out of tune with eddie :) close enough for the masses though haha

  • I wish I could play like that. I hate you

    :-D

  • you can , anyone can :)

  • do all steinbergers have trans trems? Or, in other words, tremolos that alter the tuning like that?

  • no, they also have a S trem and R trem. neither can do what the T-trem can :)

  • thanks dude, and great work my friend as always:) VH for life

  • fuckin pic slides giving me the CHILLS!!!! dont stop.. ur so damn good

  • Absolutely brilliant. One of the better covers Ive heard. Nice work!

  • Satch, dude, I just bought EVH picks that come in the tin, dude, you need to try em, best picks ive ever used, im comin off the Jazz 3, and they make me so much more accurate and faster, give em a try dude

  • Please tab!!! What setup do you use for that perfect 'brown sound'? Killer, dude!

  • Buddy, I gotta tell ya; I now have more fun watching your vids than sitting down and listening to all of my VH CD's. LOVED this one! I always love seeing you pull out another axe from vid to vid. You have actually inspired me to get back into playing after a 5 year hiatus. So I say "Thanks!" and my wife says "Hurry up with your share of the $2000 I just payed to Musicians Friend!" Lol! Love ya man!

  • And YES everyone, I know it's "paid". I just can't type.

  • IT'S SO COOL...LUV IT...

  • any chance of a tab =-/

  • BRAVO!!!

  • What type of guitar is this?

    AWESOME JOB.

    You in a band?

  • its an old steinberger GM4T with trans trem. perfect for vh stuff :)

No bands since 1990. i run heavy equipment for a living

  • nice job

  • plz plz tab

  • I've gotta say, I've watched a lot of guitar players on here but you have got to be my favorite to watch(besides Eddy himself of course)! You rock bro!

I do have a request though, bust out Baluchitherium when you get a chance, and yes, I had to look in the book to spell that.

  • thanks dude, its people like you that keep me wanting to do the VH tunes

  • really really good

  • Nice Bra!!!!

  • INSANE MY FRIEND!!! I love the trans trem... how much was it?

  • UUUUHHH!!!!! ;-)

  • this is by FAR the best version of somebody playing this song other than EVH himself on all of youtube - dude, you're perfect at this - and you made it look effortless!

  • probably a locking tremolo bar..... not so sure.

  • its a trans trem. eddie used it on the album and in concert wit his steinberger

  • a Trans-Trem [New Old Stock] typically runs around a $1000 on eBay :O)

.... Eddie had one installed on a Wolfgang Special so I'm guessing it's possible to install a Trans-Trem on a guitar that's equipped with a Floyd Rose.

  • so any chance of you tabbing this cuz this is the first person i have seen to playing like van halen does live

  • JUST AWESOME !

  • great job buddie

  • VERY NICELY DONE!

  • Dude...that's damnit good...

i'm learning it right now. I'm running intro + first part.

I guess i'm far to get it full lmao

Keep rockin dude thanks for this video

    +5

  • 0 - :33 is 1.5 steps up :33 on is standard. the part before the solo is 1 step down

  • 1 1/2 steps up, then standard, then 1 step down

  • Wha happened to the solo? Took the rhythym road eh?;

  • F that solo lol

that one seemed like it would be hard to duplicate so i took the road farthest away from it haha

  • better get some new glasses man haha its the original one but i could always improve pick slides. i cant do them like EVH :)

  • Too friggin awesome! It's funny, all the tab I've ever seen on this has got me stretching my fingers 6 frets to do what I never saw Eddie do anyway.

  • i know haha thats how fuckin smart eddie is. the song is easy to understand when you have the trans trem to change tunings real quick. he finds easy ways to make shit difficult for everyone else lol

  • Okay That's Incredible.. Now how bout given Me Wise Magic a go???

  • gonna take a while but youll get it haha

  • nice man! the tone from your steinberger is a lot better than mine. it kinda has like a flatter tone. it sounds like the neck pickup should sound.

  • the steins sound sweet in any application but i have found that finding the right van hagar tone is just as aggrevating as the old tone haha. im really liking the emg's. ive always had dimarzios and duncans so its a nice change. they are really bitey and clean.

  • quality, I've been learning this for a couple of weeks really helped me out keep up the good work.

  • you have a steinberger? the trans trem makes this tune so much easier to play. screw the other way haha

  • Sadly not I have to play it the hard way I am a lefty so no trans trem for me, I had one of the Hohner copies but I broke the t-trem on it.

  • Yup

  • Nice job!

You even have the trans trem!

  • I still reckon you're Eddie in disguise :)

  • wher's the wack lead?

  • waitin for you to do it man haha

  • yea right!

  • Once again perfect thanks for this weeks lesson. Keep it up!!

  • any time

  • That was amazing!! Sounds just like Eddie!!

  • thanks. the guitar did it not me lol

  • Thanks for the Christmas present Satch. As usual you hit it out of the park.

Next Christmas I'd like a pair of tickets to hear you play this live with Mikey. :)

  • I tell you what...if VH doesnt have a new record out by next x-mas for all their fans...im gonna hop on the hagar/anthony bandwagon for good :)

  • Awesome job Satch - by far the best VH coverer on the tube. You really know your stuff.

  • thanks Bob T.

  • dude...that was rediculous. Perfect cover. But lets hear some harmonics in the solo. Stll awesome job. Do the still sell the steinbergers that look like a box with a transtrem? Ive been looking at them but i dont think they got the transtrem.

  • no solo on this one chief, sorry :) They make a generic oar but it has the R trem which sucks. The only steiny you can buy new with a TT is the ZT3 with the TT3...id say wait and find an old school TT2.....i learned that lesson

  • I'm thinking of buying a ZT3. Did you own one and sell it to buy a GM4T? If so, why? Did you have problems with the ZT3? Thanks.

  • it was ok but the TT2 is way better. more range, built more solid and just looks cool as hell. i like the way it locks much better too. Id save up and hold out for an old stein
