  • i could hit better pedal tones than this guy and i've only been playing 1.5 years...

  • I dont think hes wearing pants :p

  • Pedal Tones?? Sounds Like A Big Fart!

  • @centipeeds4always its cause of the overtones i think

  • 1:46 i have not seen any more stupid face

  • Try a bigger mouthpiece if you're gonna play pedal tones often. I find it's a lot easier to hit that pedal C on a larger mouthpiece than on your standard 24 AW.

  • Useless! Lol what a load if shit

  • weak

  • his pedals is week..

  • Grateful Dead?

    I fucking love this guy.

  • Hey, you´re in instrument tylenol!

  • I love playing tuba even though it only been two years... =)

  • That "Pedal C" was out of tune....

  • @mbrsart He's playing a flat C#.

  • this guy sucks so much

  • You know.... Valve 3 is the one i have best of luck with playing a pedal C....

  • Dude, this guy overall just isn't that good. i don't know who taught him how to play the tuba but that guy needs to be taught.

  • Wheres your pant's bro?

  • i wanna fight this dude

  • the note is so sharp, he is playing a pedal D

  • I love pedal C !

  • Overall you have some very good playing skills. I have seen some of your other videos posted. My only comment would be to try and take more relaxed breathes so that you expand your intercostal muscles to the fullest. Some of the breathing in this example appears to be too restricted or choked. I would suggest working with a Voldyne, breathing bag or breath builder to assist with this.

  • I'm a trumpet player and I have better pedals than this. I'm not bragging, I'm just trying to say if you're going to have someone on something called "expertvillage", or on YouTube in general, you need to make sure it's quality. I'm certainly not ready for pedal posts on YouTube and nor is this gentleman...

  • he not wreing pants

  • Woah. I watched the video again after I saw that, and you're right... he isn't wearing any pants :-/

  • yes, he's not in tune... but it's extremely hard to even keep good pitch when playing pedal notes.

  • The D is 1/4 tone sharp. EEKS, if you are going to demonstrate, please at least make sure you are playing in tune!!

  • You need to put more lip into your pedal tones man, I can get WAY more power (with good tone I might add) on pedal Bb on a BBb Tuba than your getting on C

  • pants?!?!?!?!

  • is he wearing pants? and open the lips and teeth. those pedals were waaaaaaaaay sharp

  • Kevin Smith? that was the name of my earth space science teacher.

  • omg those low notes n that scale were so off i know they are low but would have love a better example

  • I don't think you understand, pedal tones are not supposed to sound very clear mainly because of how loose your lips have too be to even reach them. There has only been one Tuba I've ever heard that played a strong, clear pedal tone and that was Oystein Baadsvik who is probably the best Tuba in the world.

  • I'm in College and I can play a BBb Tuba's pedal Bb strong and clear.

  • Bb pedal is always going to be easy to sound strong and clear on a BBb Tuba its the other tones that have problems with tone quality for example pedal Eb can be played either 2,4 or 1,4 the only difference is one is sharp and the other is flat the only way to get them in tune is to actually move the individual slides

  • This is true (I assume u mean 1,4 or 1,2,4 or 3,4 for Eb respectively) 2,4=E natural but even this guy's pedal C (which he's playing on a CC Tuba) isn't very impressive at all. 14 works for me unless I really need power on that note, then the latter 2 become necessary in order to go hella sharp. D is tough 1 to tune w/out moving the slides (234 is one option but that tends flat, and 34 can go sharp really easy), but Db works just fine as 1,3,4.

  • C tends sharp even as 1234, but it can also be done as a false tone but won't have as good a sound quality, and the same is necessary for B natural (this is all on a BBb Tuba) Transpose for this for his CC Tuba and u get the picture though. His pedal C could sound a lot better imo.

  • Understand loose lips have nothing to do with whether or not they will sound strong unless yoru at your limit (mine is around Ab0/G0 a.k.a. pedal Ab/G)

  • every instrument video i see, theres a million people telling u what to do, id love to see them play

  • Pedal tones on sousaphone rock!

  • Open Teeth.....and bigger breath

  • I can hit better pedal notes and I'm only a junior in high school. Mine are more consistent also.

  • It'd be nice if he gave tips on how to play pedal tones...

  • i understand that the note is low, and the video isnt that great quality but it coulld be alot better tone

  • ......flat due to terrible breath support.

  • i play the tuba (sousaphone) in my high school band and the lowest that we play was the low G (the thrid note the he plays) this is a pointless video. he plays pretty good tho.

  • woah! for a moment i wasnt sure if he was wearing shorts xD

  • this guy's tone sucks for being an expert..

  • can do those tones on trombone...

  • ya you can

  • Crap the C is low!

  • sounds good.

  • damn!

  • What did you notice?

  • he didn't use the right technique for pedaling

  • pedal tones are possible on most brass instruments, just are best played on trombones, mostly bass trombones.

  • Comment removed

  • You know how to work a video camera...

    g2k25d94

  • i know how to, yes, but uploading it onto my computer is the hard part for me.

  • Ok first of all, F-1 to Ab 4 is only 3 1/2 octaves which is a pretty basic range. I'm guessing your not backing up this claim because I don't see any videos of you up. My suggestion is to put your "talent" up instead of bragging.

  • thats a pedal c, i believe, if it is an Eb tuba... i dont play Eb as often as i once did...

  • CC tuba not Eb its the open fundamental he's playing at the end.

  • i play the tuba :) its so fun... i cant belive im the only one in my school that plays :( o well im in a band thats 3 grades over me :) i own!

  • @sergiy11 lol im the only tuba player this year in my high school's marching band and concert band.

  • @sergiy11 im exactly the same. i play double bass also. if i had a pound for every1 who said "couldnt u hav chosen smaller instruments!"

  • dude that is not a pedal c that is a pedal e flat i know this for sure cause i play it in a song for my high school he is a moron.

  • i know he is a moron.. and his pedal tones suck.. and yes that is a pedal e flat.. a pedal c is first valve.. but i wouldnt even consider that a pedal tone at all..

  • He is playing on a C tuba, so yes that is a C that he is playing, albeit, slightly wobbly but still a C.

A pedal tone is the fundamental resonance of the instrument which is what he was playing. Any notes ABOVE what he just played, and below the three ledger F are known as false pedals or half pedals.

  • You play a Bb tuba he was playing a C tuba. so the fingerings are different.

  • This is a bad example of pedal tones

  • check out mine

  • and yes. hes wearing pants.

    short shorts.

    kinda weird.

but oh well. he loves his tuba.

    "tuba love here"

    oh yeah.

  • im not going to lie, that wasnt very good. this, coming from a highschool tuba player.

  • how was it not good? i mean i dont see a way it could suck. hes teaching what a pedal note is. i cant even go that low. and i too am a high school tuba player. lol i can only go one before the pedal cuz i held all keys down and yeah. but really its not that bad

  • TUBA PORN

  • this dude SUC!!!

  • that wass a pedal Db not C

  • remember he is on a C tuba.

  • Tuba power:P!! pour jouer une note super grave utilisé la lèvre Superieur/Use your under lips to make a very low note...

  • is he not wearing any pants lol

    i fucking love the tuba

  • that sounded like a false eb
