  • Sure, there are things you can play on a drumset and they'd be easier to be played on a zendrum. However, therefore you also can play harder stuff on a zendrum which is eventually alike hard...but impossible to be played on a drumset. Or do you accuse a pianist to be cheating claiming he's playing a harp with a keyboard which in fact also makes playing music written for harp easier? Of course not because the pianist propably won't play music meant to be played on a harp, but a on a piano.

  • Billy Cobham respects it. Repeat Billy Cobham.

  • It should be used for triggering cat samples and nothing else.

  • @soulriver888, there is no such thing as "that weird midi sound." Midi contains no audio whatsoever. It is only control data.

  • @kueven Youtubers make me laugh...you obviously know what he's talking about...so what he used a wrong word...chill out bro

  • negative words = fear

  • You could put all that energy you spend on hauling and setting up your kit into practicing the Zendrum.

  • i want one!!

  • i say, you who do not respect what the zendrum does. tell you what, go to the zendrum site, look at the list of artists, then try to make some claim about them "cheating" or "faking" being drummers.

if they're "cheating", drummers with their pedigree have the right to cheat however they want. they've earned the right to expand their art.

my other opinion = i suspect a lot of the people here that criticize aren't drummers and your right to judge the art and talent of drumming is less earned.

  • anyone can play a standard set .. if they practice.

anyone can play zen.. if they practice.

they both take time to develop enough skill for live performance. it's not magic .. you DO need a sense of rhythm though for ANY instrument.

like Mick Fleetwood says... there are things you can do with zen and ten fingers that's just not possible with two sticks. period.

in the end if it sounds good it IS good.

    no limits.

  • to me its a cool idea but i think it takes away from like the talent behind drumming. anyone can hit buttons with your hands, but it takes a good drummer to sit behind a kit and be able to to drum and use your feet at the same time.

  • This absolutely has it's place! If anyone thinks this is cheating, they're not seeing this in the correct context. I just saw a band that plays mostly world music this past week and one of their percussionists was using one. He so obviously played kit, but the things he was able to do on the Zendrum for this given gig were amazing. Drummers need to expand their horizons and realize that conventional percussion is not the only percussion.

  • Interesting and probably useful in some situations, but to my ear the sounds have that weird midi sound, sounds a bit fake.

Billy Cobham always sounds incredible and creative even on an old tin bucket or a piece of wood.

  • keytar for drummers? pass

  • My god, this is just a drummachine and it simply dony makes sence that a deacent drummer standing together with guitarists and bassplayers and loook like them. Whats the point?

  • The point is, it's fun to play.

  • well sorry, whats the point off playing like this.

Strange that my honest oppionion doesnt hit the thumps up..

    well then...i must be wrong?

  • this is just the music industry doing business. We can all grab a drum machine and hook it up, its just a midi hooked up to pads. A simple djembe can be used instead of having to use this.

  • Exactly. I do have to say, that for some weeks ago tried the roland RD handsonic. It was usefull, beacuse of limit place and i liked it. But when it comes to this, it reach my limits.

  • well, it doesn't matter what kind of instrument you use, and how you look when playing them..

all that matters is how you can make people love your music.

  • This is not a drum machine. It's a midi controller, just like a mute keyboard.

  • i dont think you understand what a drum machine is

  • it's just like a drumachine if you ask me.

  • exactly...and I dont see the point

  • Did someone ask you if it was a drum machine?

  • uhhhhm... no, not yet.. but that is my opinion IF somebody asks..
