Thanks for watching. Obviously have had a few issues along the way, but things are good other than a slight nitrate issue that I am working on currently. Thanks again for the kind comments and watching my videos!
Sometimes they don't live long and can harass the other fish and stress them out. So you do take that chance when you put them in. If it were me I would give it a try. If you are going to use a hospital tank make sure that you have plenty of oxygen, turn the temperature up to 82-83 degrees and watch the ammonia, nitrites, nitrates etc. You can also get a bowl of fresh water and put him in it for 3 minutes a couple of times a day.
Part 4: You can also get a bowl of fresh water and put him in it for 3 minutes a couple of times a day. The theory is that the parasites can't handle the change in salinity and will die. Remember that saltwater ich may always be in your tank.....Good luck
hi there friend i have got same problem in my reef tank please tell me what kind of wrasse you bought and how long did you feed food with garlic and what else you did to get rid of this ich problem i will be doing water changes more often please help me with i am new to this this 75 gal tank of mine is only 3 months old and i got this problem thank you
Part1: There is no 100% cure for your Clown and taking him out will not prevent the ich from spreading. As you saw in my video I did use a Wrasse and cleaner Shrimp to help remove the ich parasites from my Tang and in my case this worked. Your problem is a little different and I have a couple questions. Your tank is 3 months old. How long has the clown been in the tank? How are your water tests. Especially the Nitrate levels? If the Clown is new then this would better explain the ich.
Part 2:Stress from a new tank is generally the reason a fish gets ich. If the clown has been there for a few months I would guess that either one of its tank mates is harassing it or water conditions have caused the problem. If your water is OK today was there a recent spike in Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates or a drastic change in pH? These are the main factors in ich in fish that have been in the tank awhile. The wrasse may help and it may not. . Tangs will tolerate a wrasse nipping at them
Part 3: more than a Clown will and truthfully the wrasse and/or cleaner shrimp will not cure ich, but may make it to where the fishes resistance to the ich takes cares of it. My take on a hospital tank for fish with ich is that it is another environment change that may stress the fish even more. There are those that would argue this point and I am not saying I am right. Wrasses are cheap, so it may be worth a $10-15 investment.
Good Luck Jeff, i've just orderd a TMC Vecton V2 UV Sterilizer V2 400 for mine.
"MARINE KEEPERS PLEASE NOTE: If you are buying a UV sterilizer to help control disease in your set up please be sure and buy a larger unit than you seem to need. For example a 200l set up will really benefit from a 400l sterilizer. Advice from the experts at TMC: " buy the biggest UV you can accomodate" all the best Jeff.
The wrasse will jump out some day they always do and the cleaner shrimp will get killed by the coral banded shrimp i saw in yout tank. if your tangs are strong (eating well) they will fight it off. stress is the killer my friend. I have many tanks and in my 25 years the only time i use a quarantine tank is to fight a bacteria infection. Plz keep me informed i like to see what happens. thx
Yea wrasses are definitely jumpers, but in this system they have nowhere to jump to (a good thing I guess). The coral banned won't be a problem (watch the latest video "Funeral for a friend"). Stress is certainly the problem with nearly every problem and I am hoping that my tangs continue to eat as they have been as my eventual intention (several months off) is a bigger tank with bigger fish as this tank is really too small as they grow. Thanks for watching and the encouragement!
Getting the cleaner wrasse and shrimps are a good start however, the quarantine tank will only cure the fish but the ick already lives in the sea max system and will strike again. Quarantine tanks should be used prior to introducing all fish into the system, not after they are in there and get ick. I recommend you get a UV sterilizer and plumb it after the chiller. The UV will not completely rid the tank, but will certainly help control it and keep future additions from getting it. Good luck.
@memorex0027 Will that prevent ich? I know parasites don't like the smell of ich, therefore would it dimish the possibility of ich or other parasites?
@Ryanb1551 Not sure I understand your comment Ryanb. Garlic is a natural appetite enhancer and I understand it is kind of a natural antibiotic in fish as well. Thanks for the comment. Hope that my comment was close to an answer.
this is the perfect way to clear ich the nataral way i hav a cleaner shrimp that cleans my regal tang when it gets ich.no chemicals
