u would get SOOO bored just sitting there doing nothing. i think personally i would just use a normal GPS system where at least at the headland ur doin something. and can u imagine the cost. not worth it.
I like to have one of those. During Summer and Autumn I could rent me and the tractor to farmers to harvest their fields. I could install a Computer, some TFTs and Internet via Wifi or 3G and doing my normal work, while driving the tractor.
@booboo2025 Because computers arnt perfect, so if you sleep at the wheel you are going to wake up on your side, in a ditch, or somewhere else where you dont wanna be :)
@glempa5 I hear you loud and clear. All it takes is for one micro-processor to over heat and pfffft- its back to manual driving. I was once a pro truck driver and went through the years of the industry bringing automatic transmissions to class 8 road tractors. What a headache at first. But now ive been told that they have evolved to the point where the clutch peddle is no longer needed. What a hoot!
it isn,t fully automated. it just a demonstration of I-Tec pro. it slows the tractor and turns it around , lowereing and raising the implement, with out input from the operator. when the tractor reaches the end of the field it stops. due to laws in the us and canada the operator has to be in the tractor
how bored will u get just sitting there watching the tractor do the work and we all no that some idiot will try this out on a road and cause an accident
The only time this will ever be useful is for big wheat farmers in the USA, and even then, what if the thing breaks and the tractor goes out of control. You'd need a driver in the cab the whole time, just in case a problem arises. You're better doing the job yourself. Sides, wheres the fun?
I know that this idea wouldn't protect your crop if the tractor started tearing it up, but it would keep it from leaving its work zone, and it uses only existing technology.
Transmitters could be buried on the edges of your field or between crops that would send a kill signal to the tractor if it were to stray too close, shutting it down instantly. There's also no reason that it couldn't send an automated call to your house to let you know that your expensive new tractor has malfunctioned.
