So you guys being swordsmiths can you tell me something? I know that mall bought katanas are shit (I know my set is), but if I brought the steel from them to a real blademaker, could they fashion me a battle ready sword out of it?

@phsycosk8r429 No expert here, but it depends on the steel. Stainless steel is too brittle after about 12 inches. It's great for knives, but is too brittle for swords, no matter how well one tempers it. Where a stainless steel sword would break or shatter, a carbon steel one will only take a set or chip/roll on the edge. If you have a blade thats at least 1045 steel, and at most 1095 carbon steel, I think a good blademaker could properly temper and sharpen it into something good.

They made these. If you honestly believe that Matsuda sensei would make blades in any way, shape or form similar to these, you need glasses.
