There has been so many PG-13 and R movies out there over the years. Most of them are either bad or just plain mediocre. Yet all it took to make a good movie was making something like this G-rated film. Does Hollywood need to go back to scriptwriting 101?

As a whole, American films tend to have lost their touch, when placed in comparison to older movies which had to focus on good acting and scriptwriting, due to the limited amount of special effects and budget.

All animation is dubbed, for crying out loud. The English version was excellent.

Even though the dub probably wasn't really good (I haven't watched the English dub yet), I guess we can look on the bright side of things. Using those voice actors, Disney was able to promote Ponyo better so more people could know more about Miyazaki's amazing work. So he gets the credit he deserves and becomes known to the newer generation that doesn't know his work yet (*ahemwhichtheyshouldahem*) but only the Disney fluff.

Why would they subtitle a childrens movie. Im sorry children come first on a movie like this. I thought it was pretty well done. The voice casting was pretty good. The sound was done by Skywalker sound... you simply cant beat that. It wasn't really that Disnified... and believe me I hate when things get Disnified.

I think its because Disney owns Ghibli studio. Sad but true, i do prefer subbed to dubbed any day of the week. Well its better then not having it at all.

Aw c'mon, give studio Ghibli a chance to be famous guys. By having it translated, little kids around the world who haven't perfected reading can watch it and Miyazaki can have the feeling of being the huge childhood memory. Think of how exciting it is to know that when he travels the world he can see little kids going "Mommy! Look it's a ponyo!" when they see a goldfish :}!

The animated characters dont really speak you know so all animation is dubbed. It would be impossible for little kids to read so much dialogue. Get over the whole attitude of something needing to be so purely original. The English version is great!

i kinda agree with you. they used the jonas and cyrus couple so they can get more viewers. evil scheming disney!! but it did work, when i watched it today, there were alot of people watching it but doesnt even know what it's about. they dont even recognize studio ghibli!X(

I disagree. the voice actors they used were the ones they had on hand I thought were excellent, regardless of who they were. besides, what if FUNIMATION had dubbed it? they would've hhad adults play the kids, I bet.

i never said that they acted bad, i think its really good, especially noah cyrus. her voice fits perfectly with ponyo. i was agreeing to Aelitafan1000 when he/she said this movies gonna be a hit cause of mileys sis. ppl will more likely watch it cause they know who cyrus and jonas are so they instantly think its good. that's why i said there were alot of ppl watching who doesnt even know what its about. youtube should put replies next to the 1 theyre replying to cause it can get confusing.

This movie won a lot of academy awards of best animation, so it may and will be interesting, and I respect Studio Ghibli movies enough to watch it.
