  • i learned about the song when a school sang it to the Barry and Robin from The Bee Gees :)

  • i learned about the song when a school sang it to the Barry and Robin fron The Bee Gees :)

  • too good mang

  • who wants to go with me to the NY/PA concerts in Aug/Sep!

  • OMG!!! This was posted on one of my B-Days... U are AMAZING!!! =D

  • One to watch

  • Im blown away by this, it feels like the first time i heard "heart of gold " be neil young. amazing.....

  • He is amazing, I listent to this song and get goosebumps!!

  • Fucking, whoring, sluting (in english language there aren't many ugly words) nice voice.

  • does anyone know what kind of guitar this is,cedar top auditorium cutaway, looks nice and sounds nice and is probably cheap

  • I saw them perform at the Pleasantville MusivcFestival in 2008. This kid is immensely talented and will make a name for himself.

  • found these guys today, good stuff. very good stuff.

  • His voice is insane!!

  • amazing!

  • You underestimate yourself tho' krnjulac

  • Anyone can learn to play guitar and be good, but I believe you have to be truly gifted to be as great as Davy Knowles. He was born to make music.

  • Spot on my friend, Peter Green, Clapton, Hendrix, Bert Jancsh were about the same age, or even younger when they were wowing the world. I've been playing for 40 years and will NEVER be that good, they were born with that talent, same as the Wonder Twins!

  • I agree completely. I've been playing guitar for about 3 years and although I may be wowed easier than an experienced guitarist, I know talent when I see it. I could play forever and never be that good. The Wonder Twins comment was hilarious! Thanks for watching it. I'm glad we could make you laugh, if you laughed.

  • Laugh! the tears are still running down my leg! I actually have twin daughters and they used to mess around like that. Fab.

  • wow....this kid is pretty good. he should get a band together and take it on the road

  • That's what he's already doing.

  • lol, and he could call it Davy Knowles and Back Door Slam =P

  • Excellent job.

  • saw him open for mule. so talented

  • Awesome love it

  • I word: Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought his album and I've listened to this song at least 100 times already

    :)

  • kinda sounds like simple man doesnt it??

  • what ever, shut up lol

  • I've bought the Album and this guy is a genius. No wonder he had buddy guy come up to him and he said he was a bad arse on guitar. If this was the 70's he would easy be up there with the legends.

  • what an awesome voice!!!! great song

  • If you notice, his talking voice does not match his singing voice, just like Joe Bonamassa's talking voice does not match his singing voice. This song sounds so soothing. He ought to make one CD on acoustical guitar alone, all by himself.

  • i live on the isle of man, and my local librarian is his mum :L i can get free posters and stuff, cause we've known her for so long, sounds weird :P

  • you have great muscial voice and i love this song

  • Comment removed

  • This guy is amazing. He has the voice of a 40 year old black man and by that i mean soouulful

  • black...dude no , brotha's got soul definately....but he doesny sound black...more like bob Segar-ish

  • what talent - and so humble - meets with fans after every show. you can count on him being a legend.

  • hope so man lol... hes got chops on guitar

  • sounds a lot like Paul Weller there....good stuff though. his electric stuff is really good!!! And he has a ton of awesome guitars!!! Nice work.............

  • absolutely must have album i agree this kids gonna go far mark my words been keepin up with them since the bar days!!!

  • Dad just bought the Roll Away album. It is a must have.

  • Davy reminds me of a young Clapton. Dude has skills.

  • dam good and thas all i gotta say

  • A song that I think that can only be fully appreciated by those whom have been born on the IOM and hungered to escape. And escape we did, but forever will feel like an islander! xx

  • I've never been, born and bred country boy New Yorker. But I can hit home with this song as well. Leaving home for the first time is hard for anyone, despite how much we yearn for new experiences, freedom, and our own life unruled by our parents, family, and reputation our actions in the past had given us. But I do believe you when you say that it hits home most for those who were there.

  • Metaphorically, the island can be anywhere, this song has great poiniency for me and I don't live in IOM, but my country is sorrounded by oceans too. Davy captures everyone's need to escape. I love that he says "maybe" I'll return one day. When he does, "he will have a story to tell"!

  • i really like the song its the best

  • great! now i wanna hear to bruce springsteens down by the river!

  • haha i went to school with this guy, well was in the year below, was awesome every battle of the bands they played

  • Sick......White boy caught him a case of blues

  • woo hoo...seeing him next week!!!!...with Jeff Beck!!!...then I will put down the guitar for a month...what's the use?...heh

  • you rock Davy!

  • Saw these guys at Nightfall in Chattanooga TN last year after blowing Bonaroo away...Best I have ever seen!!!!

  • Wonderful music. This song sends chills down my back.

I wish I had a voice like this guy. And at that age - wow. From his looks, he can't be much older than 20.

  • 21 =]

  • whaay split up

  • This man is capable of putting a tear in your eye and chills down your back and thats special all musicians try to get that kinda feeling in their work and very few actually do and that he has accomplished this at such a young age is amazing

  • totally. only his acoustic videos though. to be honest, he is absolutely incredible. I'm just not a fan of his electric stuff

  • ahhh then you are not a fan of the blues my man, nothing wrong with that although i just dont understand how someone cant be haha

  • uhh I am a big blues fan, actually. I'm more into jazz, but what do you think jazz is? so much of it is all based on blues. anyway the point is, I just don't like his tone on his electric. other than that, he's a pretty good guitar player.

  • jazz is what i consider classy blues, which at times has the capabilities of becoming a messy unorganized utterly beautifully amazing train wreck that promises to fall apart at any moment. Jazz isnt something i enjoy listening to necessarily its just something that the shear musicianship of absolutely demands my respect. any way i happen to love his tone but to each their own jsut because i enjoy it doesnt mean others have to

  • just enjoy you twats!!!!!!!!!

  • anybody know what sort of acoustic hes using there??

  • i think its a kevin ryan custom by the symbol on the headstock, and it looks like the top is western cedar, but i could be wrong

  • Both Knowles and Mayer are very talented and amazing musicians. No need to compare which one is better, both are great in their own areas.

  • have you ever heard john mayer on the where the light is dvd, there is no comparison, he owns this dude

  • Uh, if you watch this band perform Come Home live on Jimmy Kimmel I think that's all the convincing you need to know that this guy is going to be thrown in with the ranks of Clapton and Hendrixl, and I'm normally pretty biased against up-and-coming bands. John Mayer's talented, but this guy is otherworldly, and just what the music industry needs.

  • Hendrix*

  • i saw him live ...hes fucking insane i love this guy hes a modern guitar god

  • good to hear...although I already know...and agree...I get to see him warmup for Jeff Beck...geez...now if only we could get Jimmy Page to show up...like passing the torch?...but thanks for the review before the concert...I already know he's good...but f'ing insane...man I am looking forward to this!

  • agreed

  • whys he being compared to john mayer? haha

total different style. john mayer is like an acoustic alt rocker, like jack johnson or somethin. these guys are blues rock, like srv

  • you obviously have no clue about mayer and have NEVER seen him live. The stuff you hear from him on the radio was just done to make money so he could play whatever he wanted. At least half the stuff he plays live is blues rock live srv. He can hang with the best lead guitarist alive today, don't make comments if you don't have a clue what you're talking about

  • so has anyone figured out how to play the riff in the middle of the song? i know which notes he hits, but i just can't get the hammer-on's/tapping right

  • Fascinating! Please come back to Bend, Oregon. We love bds.

  • This young band has learned it's lesson well. How can they sound so old and be so young?

  • dude I love davy knowles! GOD BLESS BDS! ...

  • yes dude, i have. all i am saying is that john mayer is very talented and a great acoustic guitarist. Also, that davy is a very talented guitarist and is much better on electric.

  • This guy was definately influenced by Paul Rodgers.

  • john mayer would rip this guy apart on acoustic. BUT, give him a strat and he would blow JM away.

  • dude are you kidding me davey rips john mayer a new asshole when it comes to any type of guitar.

  • i dont know man. I havent seen davey play much acoustic but i definitly think he would tear apart john mayer on an electric. certainly talented

  • have you listened to thier album roll away the whole thing, almost half of that is acoustic

  • davey would not "rip" john mayer in acoustic or electric. There both very talented guitarists and singer. I personally like davy's voice than JM. But appreciate both for their music.

  • he would not "blow" JM away. Like I said, at their levels the only thing left to argue is TASTE. And as the old saying "one man trash is another's treasure". I give props to JM for being so well rounded musician. But I also love Back Door Slam. btw you should check out more of JM electric guitar stuff. The guy is very technical.

  • yeah im a big fan of both as well, ive seen plenty Mayer wuith an electric guitar. nothing he does is really all that impressive. awesome songwriter and singer. so dont get me wrong, they are both great.

  • Wow. nice. His voice sounds like the lead singer for Bad Company back in the day.

  • this is a great song

  • the guy is incredible. he knows how to express himself musically. His guitar playing is more complicated than it seems. Lot of music for a 3 man band.

  • Davy's 21

  • i just saw dack door slam in concert davy is a prodigy(genius)i met ross adam and davy

  • no, Davey's still 19.

their bassist, Adam, turned 21 on the 9th.

and yeah, he's incredible. i saw him at wakarusa in the beginning of june.

  • haha, hey me too, you kansan.

  • You non islanders amaze me , I live on the isle of man and know for a fact he isnt 19 . He is in his 20's . i used to watch these guys on a regular basis before they got big . This song is written about the isle of man aswell

  • wow...in his 20's?...well that makes a big difference?...I used to see "Breaking Benjamin" at a local "Pub" here in PA...they are big now but god bless them...it doesn't matter if you come from a 10 mile square island or Scranton PA...if you can play you can play...they are going to get bigger...and then you can say you knew them when....again...forever...

  • I used to go to school with them all, Adam was in Loads of my classs, they are all 21 now.

  • lucky you!!

  • Well, I saw them on July 5th Portland, OR and we were on a river cruise and toasted and sang "happy 21st bday" to Adam at midnight. They are all 21 now. And the best to come along in along time.

  • he just turned 21 yesterday, i saw him at the waterfront blues festival, he was AMAZING

  • the lead singer is 19 years old!!! wow thats wat someone would call skill

  • hey boy thats what you call pure class, good old manxies we got the best guitarist, song writer , the world has seen for years , and this fella aint bad either haha yessers

  • i am continuously blown away by how such a beautiful, soulful, and aged voice can come from such a young musician.

  • i can't f'n believe it they are playing a free show in battery park in vermont (where i live) the day after my birthday and i'm going. yes!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • heyyyy i live in VT too, they are coming here and doing a free show?? hit me back with some info about it plllleaaasee thanks

  • yea it's july 17th at battery park in burlington and the show starts at 8pm i caan't wait it is the day after i turn 15 and i'm getyting a new camera so i can record the show i think since the show is free you can record it but i'm not sure and it's on public property so i don't know how it could be illegal

  • he should do an acoustic version of ''simple man'' like shinedown did. i think it would sound awesome

  • awesomeness...

  • The riff to Roll Away is so uniquely different than anything else i've heard. It's nearly unclassifiable.

  • He is ace - and as for this song, being a fellow Manxy living in the US this song makes me want to be back home.. soon..

Long Live BDS... Long Live Davey x

  • heh i wouldnt mind being there myself

  • music is dead. if you want to make money do something different. times are changin. be broke and love what you do or be broke and hate what you do. if you love what you do, then you are never poor! rephrase but it's ture.

  • he's great. yeah, i agree about today's youth. i'm going to an eric clapton concert at the end of may and i was talking to my friends and i brought it up and most of them were like...who? i really wish that back door slam would become big someday. davy knowles has such raw talent. they should be the ones making millions, not dashboard confessional and stuff like that.

  • you'll love the concert. I saw him in '04 and i was blown away. BTW, I completly agree with what you said.

  • he's intense but i doubt he's gonna get much attention with most of todays youth like clapton did. trash like the jonas bros and other corparate shit is more popular with them. if he went 4 a more pop style he could be huge. i like him the way he is

  • I would hate to see him become a new John Mayer.

  • John Mayer is an amazing blues musician. Just because he decided to make pop acoustic tracks doesn't make him less talented or relevant.

  • Yeah but dont you think he would play more like the John Mayer Trio days?

  • holy jeez!!

    that was pretty amazing 0=!

  • fuking amazing!!!!!!!

  • jesus...a Paul Rogers voice and a great guitar player...BIG future...

  • Yes he reminds me a bit of Bad Co. meet Clapton as well.

  • hey i now davey knowles hes been 2 my house several times and he is just amazing

    hes the next clapton

  • wow ...this is the future of popular music ..

  • I did a cover of this song...if ya wanna check it out. I am always looking for comments, criticism and/or support

  • believe me, on the isle of man we do appreciate blues.

have you not heard of the blues festival?

    x

  • Trust me the youth of today does appreciate blues, ur the ones being naive if you think that x

  • I got so freaking lucky to see Back Door Slam open for Styx. Styx was once my favorite band, but once I saw these blues beasts, I realized: Maybe there are better things than Styx. I feel blessed at 15 to be opened up to the world of blues. These guys may not make it too well with the youth today, sadly. Most kids I know are just not well blues inclined, and wouldn't dig the awesomness of back door slam. Who knows? Maybe that'll change. =D

Wow, that had NO direction whatsoever.

  • i agree with ya man, the youth today doesnt appreciate the blues, im 20 but i grew up on it and i travel all over the place to hear a good blues band!!

  • You're heading in just the RIGHT direction sir. Tell your friends...

  • I just heard of Back Door Slam recently on the radio and i was amazed. I love their style of music. I grew up listening to jimi hendrix, stevie ray, and howlin wolf. And then to find out their ages! Damn!!!

  • amazing, such talent cant get enough of him and his band :)

  • love.

    lovelovelove.

  • wow, he makes it look soooo easy.

  • Davy Knowles and his band Back Door Slam is very very good, his kyrics his magical. In fact this is the only modern band I like, and that says much to me. He has a nice modern rocky/bluesy feeling.

  • Wow, this guy is impressive :) Big talent.

  • Davy Knowles, what a musician, songwriter and last but not least a guitarist 5* ;)

  • U better return with a story to tell lol

    x

  • How cheesy was that line tom

    lol

  • How cheesy was that line tom

    lol

  • Incredibly ;)

  • Great song and video, fun song to play but damn hard to sing. Not much breathing space between lines.

The solo bit is crazy too, he seems like he must be good at irish/english traditional accompaniment with all those crazy changes.

Awesome song anyway, reminds me of home.

  • Saw these guys in Philly this afternoon at WXPN. Wow, what a talent. Tight band, great stuff.

  • You have to see these guys perform live- unbelievable!!

  • I love this band, he has such an amazing voice

  • Anyone Know The chord he plays at the beginning he one before the harmonic.

  • e minor

  • Yeh I figured it out n e way but thx

  • Brilliant. What a guitarest!

  • This Is Awesome
