@clairenunavut yes, it takes us longer than "normies" (lol) to learn how to be social to some degree, and some of us never master the talent. some of us just become really good fakers, while dealing with lots of anxiety inside. why don't you look into being diagnosed, and then you can learn some tips on how to cope with social situations.
@scarybozo i am diagnosed and, yes, there is a tendency in society to immediately recommend meds, therapies, etc, as if we are the ones who need 'fixing', but if you were diagnosed then, like me, you could resist such suggestions and hang on to yourself
first i laughed out loud at your response ie pill; lobotomy; padded cell etc. but after i watched the clip, i became gravely concerned that people would actually take the advice in the clip and go to their doctor! (vaccination) mercury poisoning produces extreme sensitivity and is virtually identical to asperger symptoms;i detox mercury via Zeoforce powder; works great, get silver dental fillings removed, first, though....
@ghodium proper diagnosis may be a lengthy process, The unfortunate reality in USA is that doctors tend very stongly to roll with their first impression, and when, as BarkyDarks seems to be saying, the nature of your situation (I just hate calling it a disorder or disease) is that people feel insulted or threatened constistently when that was not your intent, and that people seem compelled to oppose you without meaningful reason, it is very hard to get them to listen enough to really diagnose.
@TOMHYLE88 yes so true, same here in the UK, i was knocked back many times when i knew more than anybody my actual condition (certainly shouldn't be seen as a disorder or disease), hope i didn't seem to be advising against seeking diagnosis, just to be prepared to resist a lot of shit
@Solstisol you realised when you were 109? is 'from nothing, man' a spanish saying? geographically africa, do you consider yourself african or european?
I have my own coping mechanism. I become Krono's, & not a very nice person, indeed. That way, I need not get into the tangle of awkward social situations.
If I may make a correction, I would say that these statements can apply somrtimes, as opposed to all the time, as this also can be an indication of AS. If you think you have it, please go to a doctors to find out what to do. And please note, if you mention you're self-diagnosed, those with AS might think you are mocking them, and neurotypicals might think you are just a hypochondriac
@ghodium his reaction is strangely aggressive too.
Of course you mention only a few possible traits (while there is many more, but considering you have been diagnosed I think you already know that).
And @viper8red if you do have all the traits mentioned in this video (or even most of them) maybe you should start reading more about Asperger Syndrome.
@Shadowkiss1 lol yes his reaction was strangely aggressive... the statements are taken directly from a pre-diagnostic screening tool and are not my own, yes my actual diagnosis was very comprehensive
Having Asperger's means your just being yourself, and not doing what other people do, because other people do what they do because other people do it.
@POCKYSUKS yeh there are little men getting inside of heads of people as they die and making changes to the brain's physical structure just to give the post-mortem impression that that their brain was different, have a merry christmas and don't forget that santa really does exist
@POCKYSUKS I used to think like that too.....until my son was born. He was diagnosed with 'Passive Aspergers Syndrome' If you could see how vulnerable he is, and also see how frightened he is, to the point were his brain shuts down because he has no clue what to do in social situations you'd think differently.
I can seriously say yes to all of these, but I really doubt I have Asberger's. This is just the new ADHD: way over-diagnosed to over-prescribe drugs nobody needs
@TheStereoField you're talking out of your arse, there is no medication for autism conditions, only for associated symptoms such as anxiety (for which i personally refuse meds).. but if they wanted to prescribe drugs for such symptoms they hardly need to spend thousands on diagnosing these conditions do they
But then again, I could come up with a list of questions that would apply to a certain group of people, label them with such an arbitrary term, make them feel bad for being different, refer them to a so-called professional, and prescribe them medication.
We're all crazy with syndromes, disorders or other. Stop living your life with such labels and simply be. You're perfect the way you are, if you don't think so, you alone have the ability to change.
@schlegelt according to this, you MAY have it, read the 'more info'... this ain't about 'feeling bad for being different'... i don't advocate meds or therapy for the autism/aspergers itself (quite the opposite)... it's not just a fuckin label
@ghodium I know people who have been given such labels. Some of them became quite distraught. "Why can't I just be normal? Why do I have to have [label]?" they would ask. They were happier being unaware of their "condition".
It is just a label. A label for someone that thinks differently, or acts differently.
If you aren't the average schmuck, you are given a label. And somebody is making money in exchange for your true self. Psychiatry isn't concrete science. Minds deserve no labels.
@ghodium The mind can only understand itself. Not psychiatrists or tests. Any understanding of the mind is merely speculation.
Are you comparing something so superficial as skin to something so infinite as the mind? That's a poor argument. Throwing around curse-words doesn't improve your argument, either.
I'm going to end this here, because you seem incapable of proper discussion. I won't respond if you wish to get your last word in. Throw in some more curse-words as well.
@schlegelt oh pardon me for swearing, as i previously said, it is more than just a label... the purpose of a label is to identify it as something in its own right and i don't see it being in a less superficial domain than a comparator being any reason to avoid such a descriptor...take fuckin care too
@schlegelt for a person to get 'distraught' due to being confirmed they are aspergers or HFA would be very rare and the 'label' is therefore a most welcome one as it allows acknowledges us for what we are... are you aware that we are dealing with something that has a neurological basis, i.e. not purely psychological
@tberghuis at the gun shop, apart from that try stuff like national autistic society helpline, or whatever their equivalent is down under there, and reading up on the condition and connecting with others with it, etc, most of all, you all all the answers within you :)
I clearly fit the definitions of asberger's given here and of autism in the DSM yet psych professionals persist in demanding that I am bipolar instead, particularly any time I am confused, concussed, or delerious (with fever or dehydration from physical illness). I describe my "mental illness" this way: "I inspire opositional/defiant disorder in neurotypical people, and often they will oppose me no matter what the evidence or how nonsensical they have to be to do so" how can I get diagnosed?
@TOMHYLE88 ah you in US i am not sure apart from keep persisting if you are sure, contact any regional/national autism societies you can find who may be able to help too, good luck
@TOMHYLE88 oh and i can totally relate to the following quote: "I inspire opositional/defiant disorder in neurotypical people, and often they will oppose me no matter what the evidence or how nonsensical they have to be to do so"
@ghodium That's just my best/latest attempt to describe how it seems. I think it's a good one; spread it around. It's flat out amazing how far people are sometimes willing to remove themselves from logic or reality in order to oppose the dreaded "other"
Does Aspergers result in otherwise ridiculous goals? like me being the next Bill Gates and being very successful? (just so you know I'm 14 so these goals would seem very childish)
@pokefriend123 don't let anybody tell you that you cannot do anything, it depends how motivated you are and how much pain you are prepared to go through to achieve whatever it is, disrespect naysayers whoever they are, even if they are your own parents just tell them to fuck off
@ghodium well I wouldn't tell them to "eff" off because I don't swear. plus my parents support my dream. it's the kids in my class that laugh at me for my dreams
@pokefriend123 you're probably far more mature than these laughing kids are... we all have our strengths and weaknesses, if it's an area where you're strengths are then it's gonna make it that bit easier, or should i say less-hard... good that your parents are supportive, and hopefully not encouraging a competitive environment with other siblings if you have any, competitiveness is a very social-oriented thing
@ghodium me? Mature? HAHAHAHA! sorry but my aspergers caused me to be very..... imature. despite how smart I am (I don't know if aspergers provides the effects of optimism). but I am not very competitive to any of my siblings (infact I'm so good at beating them that I let them win under their noses.) as for strengths and weaknesses: I am very good with artistic styles of animation and drawing, and I'm very weak with math, so bad that it causes my teacher to insult me (plus my C.Y.W.!)
@ghodium I knew it! I don't need math unless I'm paying for something! and I've done plenty of that! besides, I'm going to own a huge company someday and own alot of money so does it matter that I need to make sure how much I get back?
@ghodium hahaha! well remember that I might be the next Bill Gates so I won't care how much money I give out (but the way you make it sound is as if I should be getting back more money then giving? isn't that illegal?). but I guess you're right because unlike Bill Gates. I'm going to give all my money to charity (or however you spell that)
@pokefriend123 i don't think making a profit and paying yourself a wage is illegal, but i admire what is referred to as mr gates' anthropological deeds and anybody else who follows such example, personally i think i would find the odd round the world trip etc irresistible if i had that money
The problem with Asperger's and autism used as diagnoses is that it has nothing to do with the important thing: how that person's brain is actually designed. That is what makes them different, not their ability to interact with others. There are millions of aspies who have great social skills, it just takes them a lot more conscious effort than most neurotypicals who automatically picked up on emotional cues.
Measuring social abilities is an extremely misguided way of measuring brain design.
@NineInchSamusAran the diagnostic process measures far more than just social abilities, it includes measures of empathy, systemising, obsessive/compulsive 'traits', and a range of cognitive based tests aimed at measuring the different ways in which the brain processes different types of information
@NineInchSamusAran The hormone oxytocin has been shown to be effective in treating autistic spectrum disorders in experimental subjects. More studies are needed, but oxytocin appears to hold promise for treating this very difficult to treat set of disorders
I am 13 and want to do my gcses in the summer. Maybe then my parents will realise my condition though I'm too anxious to tell them. Watch out for me in the 2014 maths Olympiad representing England. I'm going to be there and none can tell me otherwise!
I lost all my friends when i hit puberty, and i havn't been able to get any since. I'm slower than others at cooking/writing/reading and when i do schoolwork i'm much slower than the others. I'm physically clumsy. My heart beats fast. When people tell me to do something i won't understand it as at all, though other people easily understands it. It feels like i have a different personality in me that i can't use when i'm suposed to be using it. Any idea what this may be? :(
@JohanBomholt - Ah, puberty - when all hell breaks loose in the autistic brain - took me until I was 45 to get diagnosed , now I`m 55 . In my relatively long and internalised " head life" I`ve got 3 people who have helped me - Wife of 30 years - normal person - and 2 good friends on the spectrum also . Never had the internet back then , my advice to you is use it to contact people in the same situation - I hope you find a couple of good friends too . Good Luck
@balamimammy I wish i had success and a girlfriend. But i fear relationships and doing anything wrong. I think what i need is therapy. Though i don't know what sort ot disorder i have :[
These days it seems like a hype to have asperger's or ADHD. Almost every kid has it. This is often not the case. It is often just shyness, weirdness or akwardness. Some kids are just different than others. Don't have to be labelled to be unique or different. Those people change the world. And the problem with having these 'biological disorders' is always your diet and lifestyle. They can be solved with the right foods and a healthy lifestyle. Kids eat to much sugar that is the reason.
There are always exceptions. Wrong foods cause diseases and illnesses like cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, stress, autism...Because sugar blocks/robs the normal nutritions from being used properly. When you are high on sugar you can't think normally. It is like a drug. It also creates weak nerves. Mental patients all have weak nerves. It is proven with thousands kids that the GFCF diet and vaccacines helps solve autism for instance. But I know for sure you are what you eat!
@royalsteven you mean what the GFCF diet is claimed to do, for which there is no conclusive evidence, as you'll eppreciate if you read more about it, say bro perhaps we could find a diet to solve neuro-typicalism, you know like cure neuro-typicals of their obsessive dependency on a social means to everything, their unempathetic nature toward us on the spectrum, their herd mentality, etc
Even if I fit all of the above of the 10, I went in to get diagnosed and the one psychiatrist told me I didn't have Asperger's. I was merely a social phobic. Basically, you are crazy but not that crazy. How disappointing is that? I get bullied, ostracized, and made fun of because of my special interests, stimming, and tics. I am lost :(
@ChannelXII phone helpline of national autistic society or their equivalent in whichever country you are in and explain your situation, i hope they can help
@ChannelXII Omg, how well your comment describes what happened to me, i was also told a few days ago by the psychiatrist i don't have asperger, the only difference being i don't fit all 10 questions;in fact, it is what i was already supecting, it's all just down to my being shy, introverted, and intellectual;moreover, altough i used to excel at math before highscool, now i'm very much into humanist sciences and arts, which is pretty much atypical of asperger;
But the reason of my social phobia is the only the tip of the iceberg. I have phobia because of my inabliity to to read people's faces and understand social cues. no matter how many hours at work (where it's social) I still don't get it. Faces are enigmatic to me.
I agree. I was going to see another doctor for another opinion. I can somewhat understand facial expressions when they are extremely obvious. Only in subtle cues do I have trouble seeing. I can see it but can't interpret them.
@ChannelXII for me it's interacting with it real time, like it's all going in, but responding to it at the time while it's going on is too much, processing it is enough at the time, often seems that i take in more than some people, but reacting appropriately at the time i've never managed except with people who seem to actively avoid stalling me anyway
@ChannelXII also i know that if you want to start understanding faces you should work on it as a game, start by looking at people with angry, happy ... faces once you learn that by heart, you will work on recognizing those same faces on the ppl you interact with
@1776PatriotTeen Whereas you, I can already tell, by the way you are right now, unless you change, you'll never amount to anything in the military. I should mention my family has a VERY extensive military history, with family in all branches, with known service dating back to the revolutionary war(though to be fair that ancestor was a Hessian fighting for the British). I'm a history buff, and a military history buff, not an anime fan.
@1776PatriotTeen Anime and shit, are all autistics are good for, is that what you think? Fact is, that there are plenty of autistics, in the military, who outrank your sorry excuse for a waste of air. But just as a point of reference I'll use myself, I've taken the ASVAB myself, scored a 90 with high scores in all fields, Whereas you, I'm guessing you're just an infantryman . Then there is my father, a retired LT. Colonel, who is likely autistic(his belief) himself.
I can stay focused on something for months, find it impossible to handle social situations, like being on my own, am extremely intelligent, pick up detail, dont understand others, find it impossible to see why everyone else acts like they do( sheep/ herd mentality ) and I could go on.
ok so the difficulty making friends kind of applies to me but for me it's more a difficulty in maintaining friends. Social situations can be hard. Small talk is not so much hard for me as it is boring. I can, however, empathize a good deal with people and usually never bring the topic of conversation back to me. Could I have it?
@JayBarrington no it isn't bad to have it... well maybe in this world it is... but you only scored 6 anyway, shouldn't you be asking if it is bad not to have it?
My best friend suffers from this and they are 14 years old!!!!! They have been tested!!! You may need to do your research again

If I may make a correction, I would say that these statements can apply somrtimes, as opposed to all the time, as this also can be an indication of AS. If you think you have it, please go to a doctors to find out what to do. And please note, if you mention you're self-diagnosed, those with AS might think you are mocking them, and neurotypicals might think you are just a hypochondriac

ghodium 1 month ago
According to this, I have Asperger's syndrome.
You're perfect the way you are, if you don't think so, you alone have the ability to change.
schlegelt 1 month ago
@schlegelt according to this, you MAY have it, read the 'more info'... this ain't about 'feeling bad for being different'... i don't advocate meds or therapy for the autism/aspergers itself (quite the opposite)... it's not just a fuckin label
ghodium 1 month ago
@ghodium I know people who have been given such labels. Some of them became quite distraught. "Why can't I just be normal? Why do I have to have [label]?" they would ask. They were happier being unaware of their "condition".
It is just a label. A label for someone that thinks differently, or acts differently.
If you aren't the average schmuck, you are given a label. And somebody is making money in exchange for your true self. Psychiatry isn't concrete science. Minds deserve no labels.
schlegelt 1 month ago
@schlegelt look they give labels according to skin colour so why the fuck shouldn't they for difference in the fuckin brain
ghodium 1 month ago
@ghodium The mind can only understand itself. Not psychiatrists or tests. Any understanding of the mind is merely speculation.
Are you comparing something so superficial as skin to something so infinite as the mind? That's a poor argument. Throwing around curse-words doesn't improve your argument, either.
I'm going to end this here, because you seem incapable of proper discussion. I won't respond if you wish to get your last word in. Throw in some more curse-words as well.
Take care.
schlegelt 1 month ago
@schlegelt oh pardon me for swearing, as i previously said, it is more than just a label... the purpose of a label is to identify it as something in its own right and i don't see it being in a less superficial domain than a comparator being any reason to avoid such a descriptor...take fuckin care too
ghodium 1 month ago
@schlegelt and again excuse me for swearing but this 'label' response does get a bit fuckin tiring
ghodium 1 month ago
@schlegelt for a person to get 'distraught' due to being confirmed they are aspergers or HFA would be very rare and the 'label' is therefore a most welcome one as it allows acknowledges us for what we are... are you aware that we are dealing with something that has a neurological basis, i.e. not purely psychological

I clearly fit the definitions of asberger's given here and of autism in the DSM yet psych professionals persist in demanding that I am bipolar instead, particularly any time I am confused, concussed, or delerious (with fever or dehydration from physical illness). ghodium 1 month ago
@ghodium That's just my best/latest attempt to describe how it seems. I think it's a good one; spread it around. It's flat out amazing how far people are sometimes willing to remove themselves from logic or reality in order to oppose the dreaded "other"

pokefriend123 1 month ago
@pokefriend123 don't let anybody tell you that you cannot do anything, it depends how motivated you are and how much pain you are prepared to go through to achieve whatever it is, disrespect naysayers whoever they are, even if they are your own parents just tell them to fuck off
ghodium 1 month ago
@ghodium well I wouldn't tell them to "eff" off because I don't swear. plus my parents support my dream. it's the kids in my class that laugh at me for my dreams
pokefriend123 1 month ago
@pokefriend123 you're probably far more mature than these laughing kids are... we all have our strengths and weaknesses, if it's an area where you're strengths are then it's gonna make it that bit easier, or should i say less-hard... good that your parents are supportive, and hopefully not encouraging a competitive environment with other siblings if you have any, competitiveness is a very social-oriented thing
ghodium 1 month ago
@ghodium me? Mature? HAHAHAHA! sorry but my aspergers caused me to be very..... imature. despite how smart I am (I don't know if aspergers provides the effects of optimism). but I am not very competitive to any of my siblings (infact I'm so good at beating them that I let them win under their noses.) as for strengths and weaknesses: I am very good with artistic styles of animation and drawing, and I'm very weak with math, so bad that it causes my teacher to insult me (plus my C.Y.W.!)
pokefriend123 1 month ago
@pokefriend123 good self-insight for 14, i'm sure you can go far with the strengths you speak of, don't need maths, good luck :)

@ghodium I knew it! I don't need math unless I'm paying for something! and I've done plenty of that! besides, I'm going to own a huge company someday and own alot of money so does it matter that I need to make sure how much I get back?
pokefriend123 1 month ago
@pokefriend123 my advise is to get back more money than goes out, unless it is going out to me ;)
ghodium 1 month ago
@ghodium hahaha! well remember that I might be the next Bill Gates so I won't care how much money I give out (but the way you make it sound is as if I should be getting back more money then giving? isn't that illegal?). but I guess you're right because unlike Bill Gates. I'm going to give all my money to charity (or however you spell that)
pokefriend123 1 month ago
@pokefriend123 i don't think making a profit and paying yourself a wage is illegal, but i admire what is referred to as mr gates' anthropological deeds and anybody else who follows such example, personally i think i would find the odd round the world trip etc irresistible if i had that money
ghodium 1 month ago
The problem with Asperger's and autism used as diagnoses is that it has nothing to do with the important thing: how that person's brain is actually designed. That is what makes them different, not their ability to interact with others. There are millions of aspies who have great social skills, it just takes them a lot more conscious effort than most neurotypicals who automatically picked up on emotional cues.
Measuring social abilities is an extremely misguided way of measuring brain design.
NineInchSamusAran 1 month ago
@NineInchSamusAran the diagnostic process measures far more than just social abilities, it includes measures of empathy, systemising, obsessive/compulsive 'traits', and a range of cognitive based tests aimed at measuring the different ways in which the brain processes different types of information

Kids eat to much sugar that is the reason.
royalsteven 2 months ago
@royalsteven there were times i was the healthiest person you could had met but i still had these difficulties, next theory please
ghodium 2 months ago
There are always exceptions. Wrong foods cause diseases and illnesses like cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, stress, autism...Because sugar blocks/robs the normal nutritions from being used properly. When you are high on sugar you can't think normally. It is like a drug. It also creates weak nerves. Mental patients all have weak nerves. It is proven with thousands kids that the GFCF diet and vaccacines helps solve autism for instance. But I know for sure you are what you eat!
royalsteven 2 months ago
@royalsteven i agree that healthy diet etc can help with symptoms such as anxiety, but 'solve autism'? are you into ethnic cleansing to?
ghodium 2 months ago
Well yes, read more about the GFCF diet and what it does.
royalsteven 2 months ago
@royalsteven you mean what the GFCF diet is claimed to do, for which there is no conclusive evidence, as you'll eppreciate if you read more about it, say bro perhaps we could find a diet to solve neuro-typicalism, you know like cure neuro-typicals of their obsessive dependency on a social means to everything, their unempathetic nature toward us on the spectrum, their herd mentality, etc

@ChannelXII Omg, how well your comment describes what happened to me, i was also told a few days ago by the psychiatrist i don't have asperger, the only difference being i don't fit all 10 questions;in fact, it is what i was already supecting, it's all just down to my being shy, introverted, and intellectual;moreover, altough i used to excel at math before highscool, now i'm very much into humanist sciences and arts, which is pretty much atypical of asperger;
Hanno1901 2 months ago
@ChannelXII Social phobia just like asperger have many profiles
but the good thing about social phobia is that you can work on it, step by step it really gets better
miouth150 2 months ago
@miouth150
But the reason of my social phobia is the only the tip of the iceberg. I have phobia because of my inabliity to to read people's faces and understand social cues. no matter how many hours at work (where it's social) I still don't get it. Faces are enigmatic to me.
ChannelXII 2 months ago
@ChannelXII not understanding facial expression that's linked to asperger's that has nothing to do with social phobia
i think that you should go see another doctor to make sure that you have the right diagnostic
miouth150 2 months ago
@miouth150
I agree. I was going to see another doctor for another opinion. I can somewhat understand facial expressions when they are extremely obvious. Only in subtle cues do I have trouble seeing. I can see it but can't interpret them.
ChannelXII 2 months ago
@ChannelXII for me it's interacting with it real time, like it's all going in, but responding to it at the time while it's going on is too much, processing it is enough at the time, often seems that i take in more than some people, but reacting appropriately at the time i've never managed except with people who seem to actively avoid stalling me anyway
ghodium 2 months ago
@ChannelXII also i know that if you want to start understanding faces you should work on it as a game, start by looking at people with angry, happy ... faces once you learn that by heart, you will work on recognizing those same faces on the ppl you interact with
