@youdayoudabessst123 yah! Me too, found it on Vampire Weekend for Pandora! I've always loved this song especially the instrumental but when I found this it's was like "YES, THIS IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!" lol (:
@crumikins Wth are you talking about? The asian lady is playing the viola, the guy standing and other girl are playing violin. The guy SITTING is playing a CELLO.
@UltimateFlank The one standing next to the cello, who is the one sitting down, is the viola. in string quartets the traditional arrangement is cello on one side, then viol, then violin II, then violn I. you can tell its the viola as well by its size though, in the beginning when the violist is standing still you can see how much considerably larger it is than the violins. btw Im a violist so thanks for saying they rock! :D
@TheDSHagi Pandora is an online radio where you type in whatever artist you want, and they will play verrrry similar styles of music. Best way to discover music if you ask me, look it up. There's an app for it, too.
@youdayoudabessst123 Err... I don't want to sound like a noob (In this situation I'd be a newb), but may I ask what are you guys talking about when you mention,"Pandora."?
@TheDSHagi pandora.com is an internet based radio where you create radio stations based on an artist or a song and the "DJ" will continue to play music that is similar to that artist or song. You certainly should check it out. it is a great way to be exposed to new music and artist. I love pandora!
the did a great job HOWEVER! it need some kind of a beat it sounds like im only listening to like half of the song haha and i as well found this on pandora haha
I think this presentation is beautiful. It came up on my Pandora station earlier and now I need to download it when I get home :)
I love such great heights, I love the iron and wine cover, and I love this classical cover, really even if it's not a creative idea they did it and it sounds really good... Don't judge it from the shitty audio of this video...
I think if they had a better place to play that it would've been recorded in (HD). A lot of sound from the instruments weren't captured. See a real concert from "The Section Quartet"(4 People) and then talk shit.
I applaud the skill of these musicians and their desire to bring orchestral elements closer to mainstream music. However, I agree that this particular song choice is not a good match for their style. Much too slow and monotonous. I found my mind wandering very early into the piece and was surprised when it finally concluded.
Someone said good intonation? I'd beg to differ, but I'll just say it was a bad mic ;) Playing without sheet music takes a lot of concentration, so as a cellist you'd know? Again, I'd beg to differ. It's incredibly common to play without music in front of you -.-
Put passion into it? Finally, I agree. That was pretty mind numbing... not in a good way :S It was a neat idea to play this music as a string quartet, but because of the repetitive nature of the song, spice it up some ;)
I think you may be are confusing their concentration for lack of vitality. As a cellist, I know it takes an enormous amount of focus to play well without sheet music. I think this is wonderful.
well exactly how creative can you get while doing a cover? it's not like they're going to bust out in improv or anything. and i would say it was an excellent cover from the standpoint of a violinist.
Maybe put some kind of passion into it. Maybe not sound like they are playing from sheet music. Your point about it being a cover doesn't make sense. They are playing an electronica/indie song in strings, which obviously takes creativity. These guys (and many of their colleagues) have done tons of covers, and most of them don't sound like someone playing guitar tab. This one, however, does. Maybe it just takes a violinist ear to know good music, lol.
Lol xD i found them on pandora 2

eh, this cover is alright. I think Black Hole Sun is one of the best ones they've done. It adds an oddly upbeat nature to the song.

beautiful intonation!
but why don't they ever do vibrato?? does it not matter since they have electric instruments?
asianinvasion7 3 years ago
It doesn't seem like they are that creative with their instruments. Just my opinion. This wasn't a very good cover.

well exactly how creative can you get while doing a cover? it's not like they're going to bust out in improv or anything. and i would say it was an excellent cover from the standpoint of a violinist.
