I bought your albums, all members so talented. We need this music to make a huge come back. Rap, did to R&B what the 1980s did to pop, and R&B. Thanks for posting awesome music
thx for posting that! I had this tune in my car on a sampler CD and did not replace that for years! Everytime i listen to that tune i dont get the bass line out of my mind.. and everytime i listen i am waiting for the big groove from 2:50 on. Love it, timeless.
Killer track, if anybody intersted got tons of go-go and funk and old school hip hop for sale from the 70's and 80's, all originals press, P.M me if interested to get the lists
Those who were around during this era and were swept away by the dance have so much now. Because of it. In our hearts. It brought true pure and innocent joy and remains with us. Especially when we listen again. Thanks @marcotifoso94
I'll tell you, I lov the sound, as well as the soul in this track. Too bad that GQ didn't take this nugget to #1, and too bad they disappeared as soon as they arrived on the scene. They would've worked in The 80's; I'm almost sure of it.
i remember when saturday mornings had american bandstand and soul train.what great times! now saturdays are to find out who and how many where killed last night....what a shame
people who say music like this is not made any more need to either listen to themselves or just get out more. This is a timeless classic of its era but we have to recall that people wrote off and lampooned disco music back in the 1970s and 80s saying it was crass.
@MrGriffitz you must be young....cuz this was a time when men could shake they hips and not have a gay bone in his body.....we used to know how to have fun....we used to know how to dance...we used to know how to sing.....sorry.
Heard this on the radio while scanning through channels and grooved out super hard. Had people looking at me, maybe because I 22 year old white boy looking really stupid. But man I can not help it when the beat hits me.
I definately agree with the above comment of the guy who works in the prison? As life goes on it seems money is everything, and thats when it turns into hatred!
Anyway this soul record is still great for me at 47.
@summerbabetoo thought no one else would remember what a good skating song this is...for me that was over 30 years ago..but wow was this a fabulous song to skate to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Darkgable61 I love this song.It reminds me of a carefree life with no worrys.Good memories that I will never forget..I miss those days and GQ too.I loved the vocals and the guitars keyboard. All put together. Thanks for the memories. Thanks Herb.
@mrob75: I agree 100% with your comment. We had class and style and we knew how to have some real fun. Respect and love for one another. The women were real ladies and we guys knew how to carry ourselves in the presence of a lady. The memories are priceless. If anyone would have ever told me back then that this music would one day mean so much to me i would have never believed it.
haha this group is a joke. oh man. missed out of some of the best music eh? I shit myself laughing. They combined the worst styles of disco and soul and made cataclysmic events happen.
Dennis, I do hope you can play this sometimes, I remember flying from Houston to Dallas nearly every weekend so we could go out nad have a wonderful time remember when I took off all my clothes and jumped in the pool! i did not care, got to love the latin women we rock!!!!!!
In fact, check out the movie "The Big Chill" which came out around '83. Jeff Goldblum has a line in that movie "...name me a good song that has come out in the last 15 years...". That's the perfect reflection of how stuck people were on the 50's and early to mid 60's. Having said all that, I still say today's music that gets airplay does indeed suck compared to all the past in terms of musicianship--and we won't be changing our minds in the future.
Believe it or not, for those of you who don't remember the 70's, it was generally stated during that time that the music sucked. 50's mania along with the tv shows "Happy Days" and "Sha na na" and beatlemania were sweeping America. The fact that some of the 70's musicianship was equal or superior to some 50's and 60's standards was never stated. John Lennon famously said "...the 70's were a drag...". They were wrong, and we've only realized it since the 90's.
@smackthejokers: i was there too...we didn't even realize how amazingly talented artists were back then...we just loved the music as it played in the background & we being thoroughly engaged in whatever the present activity was. I know i sound like my father, but foreal, today's music is the most souless, cookie-cutter, untalented, image-driven, bunch of nobodys who are being paid 15 times more money than the worthy groups of yester-year - & the kids actually LIKE that ish ! sad
WOW! Headphones on, closing my eyes and dancing.... I am transported back 30 years to the time when yes..... all we wanted was to have a good time.... to dance each other off the floor and to just feel happy at the end of the night! Oh could I bring back those days......
@XanderPush Gen X too here, born in 65...we straddled some decades with great music, leading to the early hip hop...I personally also had caribbean music to love and cherish...peace...
@1msbabygorback: Not just the good music yall missed out on....but the entire vibe in the air back then was different then today. People were happier and more at peace then today. Not trying to say everything was perfect but there was more laughter in the air and that feeling of freedom and less violence and hate. We were def more carefree and knew how to party and just chill. This generation is killing each other,i know not all but too many. I work in a prison full of youngsters,it's so sad.
@READY4REVELATION - You're right, the 60s and 70s were great! Things started changing for the worse in the 80s. When I visited my home state, I took my daughters to see my high school. It used to be an open campus and we could come and go as we pleased. Now, it's completely fenced in...a fence around the entire school. Kids used to visit other campuses during lunch breaks. I bet that doesn't happen anywhere anymore. We've lost a lot of the small freedoms we used to enjoy.
@READY4REVELATION And I also remember a sense of pride and "class" in the way we GROOMED and DRESSED UP to go out dancing!!!! We proudly wore our very best to hang out with our friends and just dance and have a good time. Remembering this great music and time makes me feel good to be "old"...Ha! Great memories!
I defy anyone who listens to this, it you are not up and dancing, you must be bopping around in your chair!!! So many memories and this track brings back some of the best! Right on up there!
Hey kids, go learn bass guitar, drums, percussion, brass, keyboards, or an instrument of your choice. Master it and make great music, which you'll make for a lifetime, instead of being at the mercy of your record company's whims (mostly based on your looks). Let's get back to reality and look up to real musicians (ugly or pretty) instead of shallow and inane record company products manufactured for a quick buck.
@PugSleasy Believe it or not, the first time I heard this song was only 10 years ago! It was pricey in certain areas of course, but if you looked around you could find something nice(and affordable). It was so fun to just ride around on a bike, with the sun on your face, all the palm trees, classic cars, classic songs(like this), and of course the girls!...Its really a place unlike any other...
The first time I heard this song I was living in L.A. The weather is nice and warm and classics like this are on the radio ALL the time. Its practically paradise! ;)
what ever happen to the days when you just wanted to get out and dance, have fun, not pressure to find someone to have S_X with,,,,just plain pure fun, dancing , drinking but not to where you are stupid, music to dance to,,, not music to hump to,,,,and straggle some one's leg,I went out to a bar,, dance club, that is what they called it, well lets just say,, everyone on the floor needed to a room. what has happen to us/
Back in the late 70's, my 1st concert was Rose Royce w/ GQ as their opening act. At the time GQ was already known so it was a two for one and to top it off it was at the Phoenix Symphony Hall. Proud and blessed to say that during my youth I went to almost every R&B concert that came through Phoenix . Nothing like watching bands like Cameo, Lakeside, Confunkshun, War, Bar-Kays and The Dazz Band performing their latest hits. Simply the best era of music...
Wow, I must say I'm very jealous! Everyone of those groups you saw are what I grew up on. Never seen any of those I was only about 7 or 8 years old but I loved this time in music! R&B especially! I'm still groovin' to it!
