yes we know...we were making light of the fact that it was a recall on plain old mats, and not like an engine or something...the accident was very tragic, but the guy should of not called 911 and analyzed his situation to get the car stopped. I think it's more of a freak accident than anything else...He should of jammed both feet on the brake, pulled e-brake, or just jammed the car in Neutral or reverse, destroyed engine, but the people would of lived

My 1st car was a '89 Mercury Cougar. My funniest memory happened when I was a sophomore in high school.
I was on a date and she offered road head... Eventually i had to pull over b/c i couldnt concentrate. i shut the car off but forgot to take my foot off the brake the entire time! I dropped her off and started back home.
Along the way lost brake pressure... My house was on a down sloped hill! when i pulled up my car couldnt stop. I took out my neighbors mail box and car. so worth it

The one thing that bugs me about the people that got in the wreck over the floor mats is that they had enough time to call 911 and describe what was going on, yet they didn't put all their force into the brakes, ebrake, put the car in neutral...nothing. That car had to have had 4 disc brakes and if you press on them hard enough they could stop it alone even with fill accelerator. Just really weird.

i saw the news about that Lexus that crashed because of the floor mat. Its sad that they died but really, if your gas pedal gets suck turn the engine OFF. They played the 911 tape and thats the first thing the operator said was " can you turn the engine off "

Is it just me, but if the engine on my car was "running away" why wouldn't you turn the car off or put in in neutral and coast to a stop. Then fix the problem But then maybe, that is just too smart of a thing to do.

Quite interesting on the Honda hybrid. Not sure if anyone else caught when Derek said it was the first 6 speed manual hybrid. Very interesting car that Honda may well hit a home run with. My first car was a 1963 Ford Falcon Club Wagon which I bought for $50 and kept for 8 years.
