Native Americans were never christians in the first place the song choice comes across more disturbing then beautiful.

Perhaps you fail to know that this song has been translated into 100 some languages including; Cree; Choctaw; Chicksaw and my own Cherokee. It was used to minister to the Natives on the Trail of Tears and beyond. Its a sad day when some are told they can no longer use a song that was written on a slave ship as a form of communication against white oppressors; supposedly for the good of God. I think White Black and Red have earned the right to sing and play this song however they desire.

Some Natives decided to join christianity and some were against it. sadly It came down to the fact that in the end they had no choice but to accept the white ways or at least pretend so that they were not considered savages and treated as such. This christian song played by a native american instrument becomes a painful reminder of how the native peoples lives were ruined and considered less valuable then ours. Maybe christians at the time should have truly followed and not make their own rules.
