  • What a BIG subway car! :0

  • (7:32) "This is Bert's 1957 ACME!"

Heh, 1957 is the year "The Iron Giant" takes place in, and was also the year my junior high school was built! Not only that, a cartoon fan like me obviously knows what ACME is! ;)

  • I had to stop the vid just to go awwwwwww because these kids are absolutely precious.

  • Big Bird > Elmo.

  • R.I.P Mr Hooper

  • I love the song in the beginning. I've held it dear to me nearly all my life.

    Such a wonderful Christmas special.

  • Those kids sure are creative with how they think Santa comes down the chimmny. Nobody even has a real fireplace in their house anymore, so my parents gave my brother's and me a "magic" key to hang outside on the doorknob on the front door so that Santa can unlock the door and get inside. We always thought that Santa landed in the front yard and my younger brother was so certain that he saw reindeer tracks in the snow the next morning :)

  • @VHammondOfficial When I watched this special as a kid with my parents I kept insisting Santa slides down the chimney, only to hear one of the kids on this special agreed, lol.

  • @NeverDoubt1 I have a book about the history of Santa and the North Pole and it says that Santa goes down the chimney by rubbing his belt buckle to shrink down a size or two so he can fit down the chimney easily. He also uses a lot of fairy dust to help him aswell :)

  • @VHammondOfficial does your book say anything about the Norse God Odin, because I found out that the story of Santa Claus came from Odin.

Odin would ride across Earth on his eight legged horse Sleipnir, the kids would leave food for Sleipnir in their boots by the chimney and Odin would thank the kids by filling those boots with gifts.

  • @Genin99 No, but it talks about where his house is, where the elves come from, how he met Mrs, Clause, how the reindeer are chosen, how his magic suit was made, how he flies around the world in one night, and that the Northern Lights come from the parties the elves throw every year when they appear in the sky.

  • @VHammondOfficial whats the name of that book?

  • @Genin99 Santa Clause, that' it :) lol

  • @VHammondOfficial Thats not much to go on but if I find it I'll check it out.

  • for those who've never been on a subway car, thats exactly what happens. for the record, ive never been on one either :D

  • David and Maria were such a cute couple. Memory fails me on when they broke up and why? IF it was even discussed. (may have been when I wasn't watching regularly anymore)...bbut I DO remember he was still there when Luis and Maria hook up, get married and then have Gabi) BTW, Sonia Manzano got married and had her real daughter, Gabi a YEAR before Maria did the same. She wasn't prego when Maria was.

  • Hey, did Oscar pay? Or did they just help him "jump the turnstyle"?

  • Oh my God that little girl at the end is so cute. I came all the way back here just to hear her. It's August right now :)

  • Woah, Oscar, watch your language! O_O

  • Kermit the frog sure looks cute in that outfit.

  • 86th street nyc!

  • lol, Kermit the Frog is so funny, omg, lamo.

  • Used to listen to this record on my brown portable Fisher Price record player when I was little...Don't think I've ever seen the movie. Bought it on Amazon on DVD and sent it to my little neice and nephew. I think my brother probably was more excited to watch it since he remembers the record too....Ahhh I miss childhood!

  • "Well... um.. let us look at it from another angle... um... returning to the first angle..."

  • i dont use toliet paper

  • Oscer rides for free nice.

  • I love the song I believe in Miracles!

  • I love the song in the beginning :D

  • how wide is that subway car?

  • @DRUMMERMAN77 in new york I'm shure the subway runs on the standard Gauge tracks so its just as wide as the normal train.

  • And I have to say, the Count's double-take at 4:09 is fantastic!!!! :-D

  • I don't know if it was supposed to be a newspaper or something to represent snow, but did anyone else see Olivia pick up paper, turn it into a ball, and throw it at 3:55? LOL

  • I've never actually seen this! I have it on audio tape and used to listen to it a lot when I was a kid. I'm so glad I found this!

  • "Who knows the most about Santa Claus?" 'The Elves?" "Mrs. Claus" ....."MACY'S"

I just now realized that line....hysteria

  • We have the tape, but not the DVD, love it so much!

  • I wish some of these kids would comment on here... now as adults :)

  • I love how they bleep out Oscar being mean to Big Bird there. :)

  • @echotheinsane I know; the subway train speeding by was just perfect! Reminds me of how noisy NYC's subways always are, especially compared to Boston's MBTA subway lines

  • OMG we had this on tape forever. But then it got lost.

  • lolz I love 8:13 how Grover just stares at the camera

  • 3:24-3:33 ?

  • IT's strange... every time I watch this durring December it feels different than watching it other times in the year...

I guess that's to be expected.

  • Whoa....

    a 1957 Acme?!?

I'd trade two Action Comics# 1's to get my hands on one of those.

  • @themightycelestial

LOL Love how Ernie pitches it back to the floor and rushes out the door once he gets hie bright idea for a box to keep them safe.

  • Just think, the children they interview would be in their 30s now!

  • @123Superpro Probably in their 40's...I was born a year after it was made and I'm 30

  • @jejouelaflute I was 5 when this came out Remember it like it was yesterday...I'm 38 now. Miss this era of SS.

  • oscar wasn't a grouch, he was a critical thinker

  • "He comes down with all-a hiz reindeehz!"

  • I am 53 and i feel the same way, i cry every time i hear this song, wish i could get it on a cd. we play this every year when we pt up our tree, when my son was little he would want to watch this until ferbruary.

  • @stefanopaz I think my mom still has our record...I could probably transfer it to cd and mail it to you...wonder if that's legal? :) I listened to it every christmas on my Fisher Price record player. Great memories!

  • @stefanopaz they actually have the DVD for sale on amazon for $8.99

  • I am 60 and I taped this for my kids. They are grown now but every time I see this, I can't stop from wiping the tears from my eyes.

  • The 5 people who disliked this video, have never had a childhood.

  • I got the soundtrack to this on LP record as a little kid, and I still have it! LOL

  • Bob is soooooo yummy looking!

  • lol at 3:24

  • @Fartingbellybutton

this was before Maria met Louis.

  • I Think Kermit The Frog Should be the next guest host of wwe raw.

  • 2 months, 8 weeks, 64 days till christmas.

  • eyy can somebody tell me the name of this song please ???

  • The name of the song is called "True Blue Miracle"

  • 2 months, 11 weeks, and 77 days Till Christmas.

  • "He grabs his keys... Santa's keys..."

  • I like the part where Oscar's words are censored out by the subway train, you can just imagine or the horrible things he said to Big Bird there. :P

Also, I love Kermit the Frog, he's just such a nice and friend guy... er, frog. It's a shame he doesn't make that many appearances on Sesame Street anymore.

  • I can see the Ringlum Bros and Baranby Circus poster at 1:20.

  • I called the radio station almost everyday from thanksgiving til christmas to get them to play "true Blue Miracle" they said they didn't have it bummer

  • He come down wiz Waindeers! That s soo cute and silly!

  • I Still Can't Wait For Christmas, 4 months and 118 Days Till Christmas.

  • That is so cute that little girl at 9:29

  • i love kermit

  • I Still Can't Wait For Christmas 2010.

  • Wow, Oscar is allowed to swear on Sesame Street, on Christmas of all times.

  • I still can't wait for christmas.

  • This is like Kids say the darndest things all over again.

  • lol, omg, lamo, that subway train is drowning out oscar's talking.

  • wow, I remember renting this, and it was so awesome.

  • The Sesame Street set looks beautiful covered in snow.

  • @GroverKent, it sure does, oh btw i think that kermit the frog is so funny.

  • ur so bata because you watched this video

  • Muppet Performers:

Big Bird, Oscar (voice) - Carroll Spinney

    Ernie, Kermit - Jim Henson

Bert, Cookie Monster, Grover - Frank Oz

The Count, Snuffleupagus - Jerry Nelson

    Oscar (puppeteer) - Richard Hunt

  • 3:20 - 3:35

    EPIC LOLZ!

  • @PuffyTopianMan There is a similar "train talking over dialogue" gag in the Muppet Show episode with Loretta Lynn.

  • (7:53 - 9:30) Gotta love those improvised bits with the Muppets talking to real kids!

  • this song is awesome!

  • Olivia has passed away today, age 63 of breast cancer.

  • I know... It is indeed a sad day... SS should re release the old albums as they should have been released years ago... I will miss her and Will Lee Forever....

  • That's sad :(

  • oh, no.

  • Oscar is like Danny DeVito's character on Taxi but for kids

  • sounds like him too.

  • @Andromeda1741 Interestingly, Oscar actually met Danny DeViteo once. Search YouTube to see it.

  • It's Kermit with Sesame Street! I miss this movie. I wasn't alive when this first aired, but I got the VHS for Christmas along with Muppet Christmas Carol. It's great rewatching this even though I'm in my teens. I love Grover's deadpan to Chris's answers.

  • OMG! I love that they actually had a censored rant of Oscar presumably swearing at Big Bird. Hilarious. (at 3:19)

  • man if the let oscar chew big bird out like that currently they would be done. i miss the good ole days when you did not have to be pollitcally correct

  • 7:48

    LOL ^^

  • @Gabrielle261

Only Ernie can get away with that.

  • @leia5899 That's right he can! Because Ernie's THE MAN!

  • I smell a Magi plot coming along.........

  • I had the record for this. I think I'm getting semi emotional watching this

  • I wore this record out ! Keep Christmas with You all through the year ....

  • That is my favorite Christmas song. Anyone know where I might find it?

  • i got my copy of sesame street christmas special from amazon. they have em on there

  • I never heard Patty say "Macy's!" when Kermit asks who knows most about Santa Claus! I LOVE THIS MOVIE! 600 stars!!!

  • if a movie today said "cigar box" the media would destroy it -sigh- the good old days.

  • Comment removed

  • I have this on video and still watch it every Christmas Eve! Classic!

Grover: Doesn't their antlers get stuck?

Boy: No, he ties their antlers together...with tape.

  • the guy with maria is david and he was on the early sesame street episodes! sad i remember that...i didnt realize being 21 makes you old but apparently it does lol

  • who's the black guy with Maria? I don't remember him

  • David. (Northern Calloway)

  • "Let us look at it from another angle. *turns and makes a funny face*

Uh.. Returning to the first angle.."

Dunno why, but I cracked up good. Kermit's got jokes!

  • WHERE CAN i GET THIS?! ANYONE KNOW??????

  • sounds weird but i have found copies at walgreens, k mart and even wal mart! i bought a bunch so i made sure i had a few copies for my kids in the future!

  • Do they have this on DVD?

  • @karsliv1,

Yes, I got it on Amazon several years ago.

  • @RabbitDance I beleive this movie is still on around Christmas times every year. But I think Ive seen in in some stores as well. I still have mine on tape. Perfect condition

  • You can probably by it on Walmart's website.

  • miss Mr. Hooper, David, Linda, Olivia and others. Grover - (9:05; is that Keisha Knignt Pulliamro mCosby Show)?

  • Couldn't be. She wasn't born until 1979.

  • I still can't wait for christmas 2009.

  • I'm 30, and I have watched this every year at Christmas my whole life. Thank goodness it was released on dvd.

  • I still watch it every year on VHS! I'm an old school guy I guess.

  • @rainbowyoda, Oh really?.

  • @rainbowyoda I'm 21 and my parents have said the rewound this thing so many times.... I surprised it still runs..... even my little house on the prairie one is in worse shape! and its newer!..... I love this song I believe in miracles. the harmony is awesome

  • @rainbowyoda me too 29...but still never missed it once!

  • @rainbowyoda where did you find the DVD for this?

  • LMAO oscar cusses Big Bird out. WIN.

  • KERMIT! Woo!

Oscar's "You're the most [train sounds] bird I've ever met" line is ROFL-worthy.

The baby born from Maria and Luis was Gabby & she is still on the show from time to time as a grown woman now. Same with the adopted son of Gordon and Susan, Miles.

I miss Mr. Hooper, David, Linda, and others.

  • Love the Count in his top hat!

  • 3:09 to 3:18 grover got owned

  • I love how all the little kids like to pet Grover. So cute!!! <3<3<3

  • that's a huge subway car!

  • god i can't wait for christmas 2009.

  • omg that last little girl was soo cute

  • im on college and i still watch this on xmas

  • Thank you so much for posting this, my parents misplaced this tape, or hide it after having to listen to it all the time. Love it!

  • Sesame street used to have a magic. It didn't speak down to a base level. The relationship between the muppets and the humans was amazing!

  • That certainly is a very wide subway car. ;)

Boy did I love watching this special when I was young.

  • was oscar saying vulgarities???....cool..(:

  • I was born in 1992 but my former baby sitter had a video of this so I was able to watch it.

  • My parents taped this for me in the early 80's and I watched it year round for ages. It would be mid July and I'd put this tape on as a kid- I think I played it to death. Thanks for the memories!!

  • Haha I love how Ernie says it'd be a shame if Bert lost that paperclip, then after he figures out what he's gonna get him for Christmas he just throws it to the side and doesn't care about it anymore.

  • does anybody know where I can find this song? I really really love this song

  • TomCollins: Hoopersghost--a user here--has the episode.

fluffy: Luis was here. But he just wasn't available for the special and David was around for Gabi's birth, but as his performers' health deteriorated, it was written that David would "move away" (which is odd, given how the Street used the truth of death after Mr. Hooper passed). What's even worse was that David was set to return back to the show when he died.

It's not Elmo's fault that he's corporately monopolized, so quite blaming him.

  • I used to love this song!

  • Olivia, and Mr hooper.. Especially Jim Henson as Kermit and Earnie.. I miss all these guys.. SS sold out to Jim Mr Hooper and Olivia.. It is a pile of shit now... Thanks for this oldie but STILL a goodie....

  • OOPS! I meant to hit the Play button and accidentally gave it a rating of one star. Didn't mean that! I love this special!

Just saying that for the record....

  • i enjoyed watching sesame street as a lil boy it had so much meaning now all you see is foolishness elmo and stuff, you dont see forgetful jones or guy smiley or most of the puppets i loved, wish they would go back to old times MERRY CHRISTMAS.

  • If only New York city was really this peaceful , I lived on the lower East side for a year , and I vowed never to return , I can only stand the upper West side, a bit of Manhattan and long Island , other than that , NYC is a toilet , w/e Merry Christmas to You and Yours!

  • @MikeG506

Well you said you like the Upper west Side.... Well according to this video.... Sesame Street is on the Upper West side.... they get off the train at 86th street... Most likely they are riding the IRT 1-9....

  • Did Oscar curse from 3:25-3:33?

  • I can't listen to "A True Blue Miracle" without singing along to it because I just love it!

"You are without a doubt the stupidest (train rushes in) bird I ever met!"

LOL!!! I laughed so hard I cried like a baby!!! :)

  • @Digilady99 LOL

  • This is the best. 7:53 on. They need to make Sesame Street like this again, and take away stupid Elmo's World that takes up half of the show with pointless crap. They need more of the "what do kids think" stuff.
