I live in an area which has a lot of different native tribes and reservations...In my immediate area there's mostly Yurok, Karuk, and Hupa, but there are dozens of others within about a 100 mile radius. There's a casino on every reservation, and the communities are absolutely rampant with alcoholism and meth addiction, robberies, and violent crimes. Something that I've always thought was really strange is that I've talked to a lot of them who say they prefer to be called Indians for some reason.
Great background information. We could learn so much just by looking back at history and seeing all the mistakes that have been made. Great job setting up the video with historical facts. Very informing and very enjoyable. P.S. Awesome earrings:)
Cool. Robert Johnson was a legendary blues guy. He was a huge influence on other legands like the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and many others. I'm enjoying your presentation. I eagerly await the next two parts. Also, the Native history was right on target.
Alright sweetie, let's start on a good note and state the obvious that your extremely beautiful! So if your ever in the North East of the US feel free to say hi! Next, your a little off in the conversation about the American Indian's! I guess being in another part of the world and not growing up with this history makes the over all understanding of what took place hard! Had to delete the rest of what I wrote cause I ran out of charaters, LOL! The subject is complicated! Let me know! ran out lol
I usually don't comment when I disagree with you, since you usually fair, but I believe you were quite wrong in saying that genocides occurred under Andrew Jackson. Jackson's attempt at removal was intended to be painless. However, the Native American's themselves put it off until winter, creating the infamous "Trail of Tears." Even then, it was no genocide. As for the forcible acquisition of land in general, one should remember how that land was acquired by the Native Americans--by force.
I really like your videos, not only because they are informative, intelligent ( whatever you understand by that ;) ) , i like your voice, and the way you seem to be !
Looked it up, it's available in my local library. gonna get it tomorrow and I'll try to finish it before you post your third video #dontknowifthatsanattainablegoal
@aztecfighter5 I know what you mean dude she is soooooo cute but the thing is and I am sure she will admit it, that its the innocent ones that you have to watch out for ;) LOL I will admit however that I love watching her talk... Twinklybird its the way your lips move when you talk. Its so cute :) Keep up with the vids ;)
I don't like reading, so I was just about to stop the video when I heard the words "song lyrics" and "magic guitar" and had to stay. It actually sounds like a cool book! :)
I rarely read books, however this video made me wonder why i dont. Interresting video and nice job with the background music, i dident noticed it at the start, which must mean that you're saying things i find funny/interresting :)
Thank you for eleven and a half minutes entertainment on this dark monday night :)
and last but not least some good study music in the link!
oh boy, maybe I should've studied Brit & American literature instead of Slavic. I'm only familiar with the most canonical American writers like Heller, Vonnegut, Steinbeck etc. but a good chunk of your audience is American I believe so I'm sure someone will get something out of this video ;) and the rest of us at least get an incentive to brush up on the subject so it's also good.
It's fun to watch you do what you enjoy doing. If it signifies anything, Betty and Veronica are girlfriends of the title character in the "Archie" comic books, about teens at a fictional middle-America high school, published since the 1940s. In 70 years, ginger Archie has never been able to choose between girl-next-door, blonde Betty and rich, glam, brunette Veronica. Also, "Cavalry Records" is interesting - US Army cavalry corps (including Sheridan's) took the lead in Indian suppression.
@twinklybird Sorry if I made a spoiler. As a kid I would go down to the corner drugstore magazine rack and read Archie and other comics. I could usually get all the way through a couple of them before the manager threw me out. Getting content without paying, old school style. The joke's on me - buying the comix and holding onto them would have been a better investment than most I've made!
Living near WA State/Spokane I like your take on this, and how you got yourself more information to have a better understanding of the book. Think I'll check this book out, definitely be watching for the other vid.s on it.
@Junior8325 Aw, thanks! It's a really nice book, it's even fun if you don't know anything about the history, but after looking up some info about the context, I found it to be even more touching. Thanks for commenting!
Never even heard of the book, i love how you were inspired to gaon a bit more knowledge to help you understand the references made and the historical values that are put intot the novel. I may even go as far as picking it up for myself, it sounds rather good lol. How was your trip to london for new years? Did you manage to go and try out Neds Noodle Box?
@pkbreeze08 Thanks!! :) Hope you try out the book, I definitely recommend it! London was super awesome :) I didn't find Neds Noodle Box, but I'm sure I'll return soon and it's definitely on my list now :) The fireworks were beautiful though!
@twinklybird Well it sounds like a good read, so i think i will be picking it up :)
I think that is the best thing about going to London for new years, they have the best displays ever. A close second is Liverpool. I'm going to London next week for Chinese New Year, which is even better lol. Any way, thanks for the review, i look forward to the next video, and i may even have the book by then :)
wow sounds like an amazing book, however it brings up an on going conflict in north american culture which divide many in the debate on first nation/government relations.. Now have grown up in an area with a reservation on it I don't believe that first nations people should be restricted to life on a reservation {which they are not they can leave whenever they want} however I also don't believe the government should allow them special liberties over the general population.
Josie,I dont think it's a very relevant information, but I think it's interesting and it would be nice to tell you. I'm brazilian, and here in my country we actually never stopped using the term "indian" when reffering to native-americans! Probably becouse of that,we learn in schools young about Colombus' inadequate name for the natives. I don't know why,but the fact is,we still call them "índios" to this very day
@PaulThePuppetier Thanks for commenting! I like to know little tiny details like that. I didn't know they were referred to as Indians in Brazil. In Belgium, we use that term also.. I think the term is too widely spread to ever be replaced by a more accurate one. Kinda sad, really..
@twinklybird I've heard a couple of authoritative American Indians (ok...) say in interviews that they are not bothered by "Indian," though I guess some are. "Native American" may be more accurate/correct but it doesn't roll off the tongue as smoothly.
@RevFastEddy Of course, and it's definitely a very fun read! But a lot of aspects do overlap with historical facts, so it is quite interesting to point those out and to consider the wider background of the novel. I know not everyone is interested in that, but I know some of the YouTubers here are, so I thought it'd be nice to some videos on book reviews from time to time :)
@TheJeremiewatson Haha, good challenge! We actually discussed Finnegan's Wake in class last year, my professor is somewhat of a Joyce fanatic. I could give it a shot! :p
I like your accent :).... unfortunately I have no interest in native Americans so I will not be reading this book.
