The Greeks never went on Persia's side. What you are referring to, even if you don't know it, is the Greek Mercenaries that were employed by Darius. Yes, the Persian army had Greek Mercenaries that fought against Alexander. But do not forget that Alexander had on his side more Greeks and those went by their own will, for free!
Even more, when Alexander had to fight the Greek Mercenaries, he did not use all his army's strength to spare the Greeks from a horrible death. After the battle was over, the Greeks were captured and they were not executed, Alexander gave them their freedom and he offered to employ them for the same salary that Darius used to pay them to fight on his side.

@cobone1 It is interesting to note that the Macedonian language is recognized internationally, but it is forbidden in Greece. After many generations of policies of denationalization by the Greek state, the Macedonian consciousness among the population has been badly damaged to the point where those who retain their Macedonian consciousness fear to declare it openly. This fear is difficult to comprehend by those like me who grew up in free and open societies like the USA but not unlike the USSR.

In the 1990's Greece continued to colonize Macedonian lands with persons from the Caucasus who say they were Greeks.

In 1962, Decree 4234 was enacted which reinforced past laws regarding confiscated properties of exiled Macedonians and denied them the right of return.
From 1940 to 1979 another 135 Macedonian place names were changed to Greek ones.

By decree 504 the Greek state continued to confiscate properties from Macedonians and give parcels of these lands, along with financial incentives, to Greek colonists.

Macedonians were fined, beaten, jailed and exiled to arid islands for simply being Macedonian by birth and/or for speaking Macedonian. Adults and children were further humiliated by being forced to drink castor oil when they were caught speaking the Macedonian language. What barbarism, we should be ashamed.

@cobone1 Church services in the Macedonian language were outlawed. Macedonians were forced by the Greek state to abandon their personal names and adopt Greek names assigned to them. Some of the Hellenized names still echoed their original forms. For example, Mr. Popov became Mr. Pappas whereas other Macedonian names were replaced with completely different Greek names. For example, Mr. Itskarov became Mr. Christidis, etc.

This included inscriptions found in Macedonian municipal buildings, churches, tombstones, and icons, prompting English journalist V. Hild to say “The Greeks do not only persecute living Slavs (meaning Macedonians)…., but they even persecute dead ones. They do not leave them in peace even in their graves. They erase the Slavonic inscriptions on the headstones, remove the bones and burn them.”

Greek eradication policy by way of recolonization of non-indigenous populations. My Great-grandparents were among the Greeks that got free land to live on and farm. They moved in 1923 from Piraeus to Edessa in Macedonia. My Great-grandparents, grandparents and parents are witness to Greek atrocities of Macedonians. It hurts them very much.

Yes there has been migrations of people from all of the Euro/Asian continent and the region has influenced and been influenced by outside rulers making their own imprint on its culture, language and people. Interesting, but I couldn't get much information in Yugoslavia at the time I started to find out about the truth.
My knowledge is mostly through English; German, French books.
I own 400 years old maps from the "Roman empire" (western Europe) where the names of cities in Greece of nowadays are Macedonian and Not the ones the Greek government put through the last century.
As well I own 400-500 years old french history books my friend about Makedonija which don't spread the lies from nowadays

The Greeks never went on Persia's side. What you are referring to, even if you don't know it, is the Greek Mercenaries that were employed by Darius. Yes, the Persian army had Greek Mercenaries that fought against Alexander. But do not forget that Alexander had on his side more Greeks and those went by their own will, for free!

Even more, when Alexander had to fight the Greek Mercenaries, he did not use all his army's strength to spare the Greeks from a horrible death. After the battle was over, the Greeks were captured and they were not executed, Alexander gave them their freedom and he offered to employ them for the same salary that Darius used to pay them to fight on his side.

I live in Romania and I am proud to be a Hellenic Macedonian, not a Slavic thief.
And as a Macedonian, I know that if it wasn't for Ellada, there would have been no Macedon at all.
The first King of Macedon was called Caranus and he formed the Macedon Kingdom with Aigai as it's capital. Now, the place is called Beria after the Boetian Queen. This Caranus was a son of Temenus, 4th generation from Herakles and a Dorian Greek.

Take it easy bro, I'm an American born Greek with family from Edessa in the Greek occupied territory of Macedonia. My family does not consider themselves Macedonian. They are proud Greeks. Our family was originally from Nikea and was given land to farm by the government almost a hundred years ago. Now I see it as one of the tactics the government used to dilute the ethnic Macedonians in the area. My family has witnessed first hand the persecution of Macedonians at the hands of the Greek gov.

OK Ath, my Greek sister. Prior to Pella where did your family come from. Most every Greek my family knows in Macedonia were originally from other southern regions of Greece and similar to my family were given land by the government so that the Greek population could be increased in the occupied territory. I was in Pella in 2003, very beautiful, the people were the sweetest and the girls the prettiest. Don't be mad cause I don't believe the government's propaganda, they're just using us.

Growing up in America I guess I developed a deep suspension of any government sponsored diatribe that denies a people their right to legitimacy. I've read a lot on this issue and talked to may of my elder family members of there experiences and have come to the conclusion its all an attempt of control perpetuated by the Greek government. My parents always worry when I go back to Greece to visit, they fear I might speak my mind and get killed. Its sad independent thought is not a Greek idea.

Bro, you need to understand that there are Macedonians not only in Greece (where prior to 1991 were bared from openly calling themselves Macedonian), but in southern Bulgaria and in the south of the former Yugoslavia. Recognition of only the Macedonians in Greece is the provocation and will lead to nothing good for no one. Peace through mutual respect and recognition everyone wins. Or like a child you can continue the possessiveness with the toys and end up alone and isolated.

It's only because of the friends and family I have in Greece that are affected by policies that create animosity and division of a people that can only lead to destruction of a great country. Slavs, Turks, Whites, Blacks, we are all human. A policy of compassion and Glasnost (openness) will forever cement Greece's territorial borders better then this conflict of disputed heritage and legacy. Ath, you're so misguided. No one is saying we Greeks are not Greeks, but I do see and hear alot of Greeks saying Macedonians are not Macedonians unless they're Greek.
As far as the Turks are concerned, they too are subjected to government sponsored propaganda and is not right for what it is doing to its people which is identical to what our Greek Government is doing to us. So you see we have something in common with them too. Unfortunately its not anything to be proud of.

With the exception of some people, generally the turks (as people also, not only as politicians) have expanding claims towards Greece. Will i not be misguided if I accept any territorial claim against my country? If yes, then i prefer to be 'misguided" as you say.
