Scott, simply put it is because David has such a wonderful voice, he doesn't NEED to be overproduced as do many current artists. A live band sound is all he needs. My personal preference would be to pull his voice out even more in the mix on the live versions as well but I do love what they have done on this tour.

How does he do it? How does he take highly produced songs like CBTM (and Light On) and make them BETTER live? Well, having a great band helps, but David just knows how to sell it live.

It's a little ironic that the songs on his album were pushed in that direction and then he goes and puts his own spin on them, just like he did with the songs on Idol. I think it shows a bit how his work was made a bit too polished on the album. I hope on the next one there's more of a live feel to the production and his voice is left as it is as well.
