  • I'm trying to pin down your political views and I've gotta say, you're not an easy mark. :) But, I will say this as well, I know I'd have fun arguing politics with you.

  • Bought myself the"claret wood" version which I think is great.

Are you gonna review the different wood expressions( port/rum etc.)

Love your videos, happy hollidays and greetings from Holland!

  • Hey!

I've tested Springbank 15 yo, and one of the best single malt whiskey's I've ever tasted. Especially with some water. I haven't found any review from you on it, have I overlooked it? and btw; I bought a dun bhegaen 26 yo. Exclusive in taste and extra long finish for it price. any opinion about it?

  • @larsiemannen

the Spring 15 is still to be reviewed.

  • holy crap that was a lot of water you added.

  • Just out of curiousity, have you found the other bottle yet?

    Cheers

  • @SingleServingJohn

    no, not yet !

  • @Broxi1979 funny, I was just looking for that!

  • Vote for Ralfy! Ralfy for PM!!

  • Bang on about the taxes Ralfy! For

  • Ralfy for PM!

  • @Broxi1979

... happening later this year !

  • Ralfy is that a Dialect on your shelf?!!?! LONG LIVE TOM BAKER!!!

  • Would you like some whisky with your water ? haha

That must be really strong cask strength if you it required that much water

  • Hey Ralfy, love the reviews. Question for you, but sorry it's a little off topic... When the whisky producers lower the alcohol level from cask to bottling strength, I would assume they do this by cutting it with water. Would this be a huge source of flavor for the whisky? Is it something they think over very carefully?

  • @bkmclean1

... they do cut with water, it does not add flavours but dilutes/ajusts existing flavours.

  • @bkmclean1

... and the filtered bottling plant water does not add flavour to whisky, but simply weakens/alters it slightly.

A simple process so not much careful thought other than to be specific in volume and keep it pure water.

  • come to israel if you want high prices... 200% tax on whisky.

this one would cost here about 200 !

  • @galg33

that's shocking, I bet there's not 200% tax on anything else except cigars ... probably.

An Israeli Whisky Distillery ... where is it Gal ?

  • Ralfy, sorry its a bit off limits but do you find whisky harder to drink in hot weather, do you switch the style of whisky you drink or the way you drink it and is it possible to put scotch in the fridge and still get a decent dram?

  • @chrish12345

it never really gets too hoyt here in the U.K. so is not a problem, but I did find myself switching to Saquara Gold when I went up the Nile in Egypt a few years back.

  • @chrish12345

Whisky out of the fridge is not a problem ! ... Saquara Gold (mentioned in last response) is a beer !

  • I really appreciate that comment about treating people that work in alcohol stores with some respect. I worked a second job at a major US alcohol retailer for a while and I didn't get paid shit compared to my regular job, but I enjoyed what I did and I liked sharing my information on bourbon with customers that cared to know. I also shared a lot about scotch that I learned from you

  • Interesting how this would compare to the Glenfarclas 15!

  • @PopUpPirate1975

the Glen'F 15 is a good malt whiskiy, at a lower strength.

  • Enjoy the videos highly. Springbank 10yr is $61 here in Pennsylvania US. I am hunting for the deals though, yes I am. Wonder how much this state would charge the a single cask bottling...

  • Ralfy your so right on these inter-state duties. They are OUTRAGEOUS! For example here in the states, whisky prices fluctuate by 20 to 30 dollars for a bottle due to these taxes, worse thing is now the online market is controlled as well since I've repeatedly been denied from buying cheaper bottles from the east coast.

  • 3rd of the 8th? That's August isn't it?

  • @FrontSideBus

yes, I annotated an ammendment !

  • @ralfystuff

Ah right. Looks like they don't show up on the iPad YouTube app...

  • Hi this is UTSAV ,sir can u plz review VAT 69 or 100 Pipers...if u can I would be very thankful to u ...i hope u dont mind....THANK you

  • Ah finally this long awaited review! Great stuff, as always! You've said many times that one shall not judge a whisky by its colour, but that walnut colour is just beautiful...

Would be great to hear what the master himself has to say about the Claret Wood version!

    Take care!

  • @SingleServingJohn

Ralfy turned me on to the Claret Wood. I bought it last week ($100 !!) but it really is excellent. IMO Not very peaty or smokey but tons of complex flavours.

  • Hi ralfy this is UTSAV thank you very much for u r reply u r a great person.....and a MAESTRO in whisky reviews....why dont u visit INDIA once u'll have a tremenduos value over here as well.....and plzz always be tension free so that u can stay young 4ever....by the way u r of my father's age so i wanted a suggestion from u Thank you....

  • hi ralfy this is Utsav frm India I want to know whether TEACHER's HIGHLAND CREAM

a good scotch whisky for its price?????however whats u r age coz u still seem very young may be bcoz u drink a lot of whisky's LOL....one more question do u own this whisky's or u bring to review it for us....I think u r the king of whisky reviews HATS OFF TO U.....

  • @debangandey

Teachers is a good Blended Scotch Utsav, and I keep young by being worry-free and I do buy most of the bottles I review because it's my hobby.

    ... good luck.

  • Well if you want the highest prices ever for alcohol, please come to Quebec, Canada (SAQ) for a state-run monopoly's high inefficiency and high prices. Not to mention that it's impossible to find whiskeys they don't carry.

  • @bonheurbrun

time to vote for change !

  • @bonheurbrun Agreed. SAQ prices are unbelievably high and good luck finding half the stuff they claim to have on their website. Ontario's LCBO have high prices too but at least they have what they show on their site.

  • @bonheurbrun

I know exactly where you're coming from as I live in Sweden, where we also have monopoly. I wanted to order 2 bottles of SB from The Whisky Exchange, each for £40. The grand cost including swedish taxes and whatnot, ended up being £160... It would actually be cheaper for me to buy a plane ticket and go to UK and by the bottles myelf... It's almost insulting.

  • @SingleServingJohn Not to mention that both Sweden and Quebec have huge personal-income tax rates...

  • great review, as always. you are certainly right on about the unnecessary barriers to trade.

  • Talk about coincidences, I just checked the web site of my local specialist shop, K&L Wines, and they just got their hands on a single cask 14 year old madeira matured Springbank (from the dates I'm guessing this was a "sibling" cask to yours). However it definitely looks like inflation set in with the extra aging because it's going for $100 a bottle!

  • @shuboy05

prices only go up ! unfortunatly.

  • Don't worry Ralfy, I'm almost done building a matter transporter in my basement....

Incidentally I'm all for paying a little more for a store exclusive bottling but only if the store is reputable and they have tried the whisky beforehand.

  • you're right, can't seem to find this bottle anywhere on online shops. I was trying to find what the going price for it today would be.

  • tax should be put on compnies not on

    whisky

  • 48 pounds is considered expensive over there?? In australia, the equivalent of 48 pounds doesn't even get you a Ardbeg 10, Laphroaig 10...I need to move overseas to the UK!

  • I'm in Australia and I think you could save a bit of money if you're paying more than £48/$75 for your Ardbeg 10. Going price should be $70.

But I know what you mean, £48 for a cask strength whisky is almost unheard of in Australia, let alone a Springbank. Standard Springbank 10s cost ~$100/£65 to ~$200/£130 for an 18yo over here.

I guess it always helps to live in the same country as the distillery itself :-)

Also note, whisky is going through a renaissance now - demand up/price up!

  • @laudrupli Yikes! That's ludicrous. Laphroaig 10yr is US$30 here.

  • Good stuff mate, always a pleasure watching your videos

  • It is forbidden to buy alcohol on internet in my country, lovely eh?

  • gets even better with the stereo lights. do you edit your films? and... did you try the claret from springbank? fraser.

  • @weeeck13

I don't edit Vlogs usually so as to keep things 'immediate'

... and I have yet to try the Spring' Claret ! ... perhaps soon !

  • @ralfystuff

hi again, thanks for the quickfire response. did you get my question about any objections if i copy some of your terms on my own upcoming vlog on whisky? I understand your comment with the "F", i have been going the other way recently, more buying than drinking. which is probalbly better anyway. how did you get to the manx isle?

  • @weeeck13

feel free to be inspired by the ralfystuff and good luck with your WhiskyVlog. ... send me a link and I can give you some feedback.
