Glad he mentioned burps because I totes burp a lot when I'm singing sometimes. I wanna make out with their faces, but like I totes wouldnt burp on them....like out of respect you know?
Omar Rodriguez-López and Carlos Alomar, in my opinion, are the most proficient rock-music-guitar-players of Latin American descent that have ever existed. I`m from Puerto Rico, as they are, and I find it eery that not many people know about them here... We should build monuments for them! And named streets in their honor!! Hopefully the young-generation does that for Omar, but I`d hate to see Carlos Alomar forgotten in his own country...
I am continuously amazed by their brilliance. Everything they do is spec-freaking-tacular. Like, they're just genious. I wish other bands had their mentality.
not the editing part obviously, but i think Miles Davis used the technique of seperating the musicians of his band to learn parts so that there was greater competition as it were...
@showergel1 even if you're on drugs it's still coming from your heart. I get the impression you've never experienced drugs or creating music first hand.
most people are stupid and listen to mainstream radio, mars volta are so musically past that, people just think their records sound like noise and jamming, when its really structured genius, it's just a little different from most people's expectations, their music is genius, it takes time for people to accept whats different. I listen to them religiously bcus i think their the best band out right now.
I think they're amazing musicians, great writers, everything...
But they really shouldn't be so up-tight about things. They'll take anything as an insult. They have to realize that not everybody is going to think of music the way they think of it....
What i'm trying to say is: Yes. You can make highly intricate, complex pieces of art that barely any of the world can replicate... and not be so touchy and so glarey with other's works, societies, etc....
@MikeTheGuy00 i believe they have the right to be up tight about everything...omar simply explains it at the beggining..theres alot of misconceptions about the band, based on what everyone wants to believe. not what they know. viva volta.
its actually not a slap in the face.. its a compliment.. i would love to be able to play as well when im writing a structured song as i do when im doing improv
or you could just be a group of amazing musicians that sound great live, not chopping some notes, or complaining about how one could have a bad singing day!
@rollerblaker dude the joke was that i used the incorrected tense like he did maybe if you saw the original comment but i don't remember exactly what it was, cause it was a fucking year ago. Stop commenting on dead comments
Omar is such a genius. It doesn't surprise me that he records in such an untraditional manner. He tends to look at everything from an inverted perspective
i respect that their clever writers but if they used the experiences and skills of the musicians that they have in the band by letting them write their parts they wud be 100 times betta because lets face it the all the members are technically able it wud be amazing
@merrymadi also, in another interview, they talk about how they don't let too many guys backstage cuz they said it was a sausage fest around them all the time during tours and they want chicks. so... yea
Well, they both have girlfriends...might even be married now.
Dude...how could you judge somebody like that? Do you go like: "Elton John was pretty good on piano, but he was gay as hell so I can't listen to Tiny Dancer or I might turn gay." Grow up dude. Either you like the music or you don't. Don't get into their personal life.
I don't understand what you're saying. I was replying to some guy who said he hopes Cedric & Omar aren't gay because they "look and sound gay" to him apparently. Somehow that would make him not want to listen to their music.
I only used "Tiny Dancer" and Sir Elton John as an example. What are you saying? If you listen to Tiny Dancer you, yourself will turn gay?
Cedric writes the lyrics. Omar is just responsible for the melodic and instrumental parts of the music. Omar and Cedric are the Mars Volta. The other members are just performances. But at the same time Pridgen and Theodore were also a large part of the band as well.
so do omar and cedric write EVERYTHING in the music? drums, bass, keyboards etc? do the rest of the band have any credit lol? you never see them in any interview!
Maybe the other artists and musicians aren't allowed to rehearse together because Omar and Cedric are two of the most egotistical persons in the business. Food for thought
No. You're right, i don't know who they REALLY are. I only know what i see on the internet and tv and other media outlets. What they put out there to see is what i base my opinion on. But yes, you can call me a fag and whatnot on the internet, but know that this is how i view them and no kid on the internet can take that from me. The truth of all of this is that At-The-Drive-In was a better band and these two left the band to start TMV because they couldn't force their thoughts on the others.
LOL. I'm not sure what you're doing on youtube, but i'm here because i'm bored and am not entirely convinced you know what you're talking about :D Text me back to keep me entertained.
I'm saying that i believe sounds better. its a shame they split, because of said reasons above. I'm a big fan of TMV i'm not a fan of them two as persons.
cedric and omar built TMV from the ground up after they left ATDi. i think it's perfectly fine for them to have creative control over the band, and i don't think they're being egotistical. everyone in the band knows how things work, and from what i understand who ever omar is recording is always free to offer up suggestions about the music.
You can here many places in this video where omar says that the way that they record is against a musicians habit. Then Cedric chimes in with the, "thats what you sign up for in the band." This makes great music, but makes cedric and omar look like ego-tistic manics. I enjoy their music, i wouldn't want to know them though.
Very interesting (the recording sequence) I think that I will try it. also, these guys must be my age, talking about Kiss, and the 8 track cassette. I am going on 47.
I am surprised that they talk aout the 80's, and such, I was in my early 20 back then. I guess they would have been in high school. I like how they are honest with the interviewer when asked questions. They just write what comes to them. Much like how I write.
dis foo is interviewing them like if there gonna say " Oh naw we just take a hit of crack and some acid and we play music" nigga was all suprised dat they are organized
as far as live i could see why so many niggas say dat about improvising but on albums everything sounds planned to me...if not then they would never give you dat feel they give you...

Cedric and Omar left ATDI because being in that band was like being in kindergarten from the perspective of musical creativity.
They hated being in a generic punk band, where they couldn't improvise, and make new music.
