The alternative is a pandemic outbreak that would kill far more animals, far more painfully with immeasurably huge impact on food stocks leading to human starvation and death, particularly in the third world. To simply chalk this up to a lack of humanity is not only single-minded but furthermore, shows ignorance of the realities involved. To suggest this is simple cruelty is nothing short of convenient. This prevention makes for shocking video but it is far less gruesome than the alternative.

@yarmamzer Here I thought "kosher" means "clean" and "approved". Is kosher salt killed humanely? Don't be an idiot. Slicing an animals throat while it is awake and aware often scared, and leaving it to bleed out in a matter of minutes sometimes remaining conscious enough to stand back up for minutes. This is not humane. A stunned animal that is instantly rendered unconscious makes for safer more humane killing.
