It says that Jesus waited two days after hearing that Lazarus was ill because he loved Martha and Mary. Then when he raises him from the dead, he says that this illness is for the glory of God.

The manifestation of the glory of God is a greater act of love than preventing Lazarus' death would have been. Of course God loves us, but, as you can see in this story, he shows us his glory because he loves us so much.

Which text are you referring to? Hopefully not Romans 9. The book of Romans needs to be read in context; in this case, Paul's main project was to inform Jewish Christians in Rome that they did not have an exclusive right to God's grace through Christ, and that gentiles were welcome as well. Seriously, read Romans in one sitting. Calvinism is only one of many lenses through which to view scripture. We have to be careful not to confuse Scripture's truth with our subjective interpretation of it.

He said 'it is finished' before the resurrection, did he not? The word 'resurrection' is not just confined to a single event, but it is a thing that is done all the time. If Christians are to be like Christ then we have to imitate him even in the continual resurrection and renewal of us and what God wants us to be.

If you look up the Greek for it is finished, it means "pain in full." Jesus paid the price, the ransom, for our sins and then he rose from the dead, so that we may have eternal life. When we are baptized into Christ, we are given faith through the Holy Spirit and through this faith in Christ we are ressurected.

This Nooma always struck me as Rob answering some of the critics who flamed him for Bullhorn. You is one of his best one so far, he challenges a lot of the traditions, yes, but he said, at his church, that he's not interested in being controversial, but rather, he's interested in what is true. To find out what is true, one has to look, search and debate, not just swallow what has been force fed us for centuries.
