  • the emotion you put into this little jam session was incredible, it was the perfect combination of blues and rock

  • Thanks for listening, and thanks for your poetically positive comment - much appreciated!

  • This song is sad and makes me want to make my guitar weep... intense and sad... i feel like playing this one Sunday morning when I am 60 and retired and alone in my house while looking at old photographs... great job !

  • This is the most poetic response I have ever received. Thanks for listening and keep smiling!

  • @dkinnear I really like this song... do you have a backing track for this sir? By the way, how much did you get your Aerodyne...i really like to buy one... the guitar I own is too aggressive to get your tone... I own an Ibanez ART500 Dark Violin Sunburst, which is great for heavy stuff... but i like your strat sound....

  • I used the phrase looper to provide backing track. Easy song, will send you chords if you want. Paid $650 for my Aerodyne back when they were still making them. I'm looking for them to reissue since they sold very well and people seem to want them. Your right, you have a metal machine there great for that hard core sound but nothing sounds quite like a strat.

  • @dkinnear I see...i plan to make my own backing tracks too, but i don't know how to start... can you provide me some tips and tools that i can use to create my own backing tracks? The Art500 is great for metal stuff, but i also want some flexibility in my tone. A strat can really go into more deeper realms

  • I've never made a backing tracking track but I sure use them a lot. There are bunches on Youtube to turn up and play to, most of them blues oriented but other stuff in there. There are a couple of people who put up a lot of tracks, look up backing tracks, see who they are and contact them would be my suggestion. The one thing i love the most about this Japanese-made Aerodyne Strat is that it is crafted so well, the five sounds are all distinctive, beautiful and usable, no dog in the bunch.

  • @dkinnear Thank you for the information sir! I plan to buy one soon... I was actually weighing between a Paul Gilbert PGM 300 and the Aerodyne... but i have a metal guitar now.. i think i'll go for the aerodyne first! Can you send me the backing track that you used? I will pm you my email =)

  • So what is the unit called you use to record yourself and then overdub using a foot switch? I have always been interested in doing this. I saw a guy perform in Reno Nevada once doing this. Brand name? I also just purchased an Aerodyne Strat last week and it's getting set up at guitar center right now.

You are really having fun with this aren't you? Sounds really good.

  • So sorry for delay. I use a Boss RC-20 Loopstation. It is the greatest practice device ever since the rhythm repeats endlessly while you lead away. They have a two switch version of this pedal and a smaller one, both work well. The skillset with this pedal becomes stomping the start rec and stop rec exactly on the beat which is nearly impossible but listeners mostly don't notice. Just can't use this pedal with a real drummer because they won't stay in sync very long. Play on.

  • I was having a down day and then I read your comment. Thanks for listening so carefully, for your very kind words and for the request. You inspired me Jax.

  • :) I went on a search for one of those babies, and found the most beautiful one which was charcoal with a black faceplate and white outline, think it's the prettiest Fender guitar i've ever seen, sadly it was also sold before my hands could get a reach of it, but i'm sure something as nice is gonna turn up one day! By the way, this is everybit as nice at it was 4 months ago!

  • Oooo that was tough to read. That really sounded like a beauty - sorry it got away. However, with your positive attitude another will surely pass your way. Thanks so much for checking back in.

  • Absolutely wonderful! I love every bit, kinda Gilmour-ish but definetely your own!

  • There is nothing nicer that you could have said to me - thanks for listening and for your thoughtful comment.

  • i love everything about this strat, the only complain i have is the binding, dont get me wrong it looks awesome, but it feels so awkward when you play standing.

  • i just wanted to buy an aerodyne but the last one was sold one day ago. damn fender that they wont build this aerodyne type fenders anymore. I fell in love with this guitar, so amazing ,such beautiful sound, simply awesome. Ah and great playing as well my friend ^^ If anybody knows where i can still get one of this guitars, please let me know! btw you should do a lesson for playing your song :)

  • So sorry that happened and I am with you about Fender. I believe they are missing out on sales by not continuing this line but it may have been stealing thunder from American Strats so, who knows? Thanks for listening and I appreciate your comments. You have given me an idea of perhaps making a video to teach several of my songs which are all easy to play and effective to use with a phrase looper and have fun jamming. Thanks for sharing your interest.

  • @XtraKrispy666 nice thing to say, thanks. Enjoyed your 000-15 Martin finger picking - great bass for a little box. This is the most comfortable strat I've ever played, hope you get one.

  • Great playing! I love your guitar! What song are you playing? Could you send me the chords to it? The riff is amazing!

  • @zzero347 Glad you liked it. Riff is a song of mine. It fits my MO, easy to play but sounds good! Root rif is Gm, GmMaj7, Gm7 ( Gm then moving down on the 4th string 5th fret, 4th fret, 3rd fret ) then to C9, repeat, chorus is Cm7 (Make Cm and lift pinky) to Dm7 (up two frets) back to Gm chop. Hope that helps, happy playing bro.

  • loving the aerodyne! cant wait to get one... another 2 months :(

  • I'm excited for you - send a picture when you have it if you can and play the heck out of that thing!

  • Great playing man, i have a les paul and was thinking about adding a strat to the collection do you think this would be a good choice?

  • Adding a strat to your collection would be an excellent choice and an aerodyne strat would be the perfect choice.

  • very cool love melodic playing over mindless shredding

  • Glad you like it. I enjoyed your video as well - we obviously have similar influences. Thanks for listening.

  • clapton all the 3 kings buddy guy srv philip sayce bonnamassa and many others influence me oh gilmour and gibbons to i have just posted some new vids let me know what you think i hope 1 day to have the confidence to play in front of people

  • great playing enjoyed this

  • do these come with a maple fingerboard?

  • Sorry bro, I don't know. I have never seen one. Also, I believe the Aerodyne line has been discontinued.

  • So, my phrasing is something I'm working on while soloing. I'm just curious - do you hear what you want to play before you play it? I ask this, because your phrasing in the leads are EXCELLENT. ;)

  • Thanks very much. Sorry, I thought I responded to this months ago. The answer is I hear what I want to play as I am playing it. I'm hardly fast, but I think in melodies and I say it musically through the particular library of chops I have learned over the last 30 years. The best way to practice is to actually play the melody line of familiar songs as a lead and then riff off of that. This will transform the running of scales into the expression of emotion while telling a musical story.

  • is it made in usa?

  • The Aerodyne Strat is "Crafted in Japan" as it say on the back of the heel of the neck. When I was young, Made in Japan was not a sign of top quality, now it is. Best made Strat I have felt in a long while.

  • thanks and your guitar is gorgeous!

  • Thanks for saying so. Someone suggested replacing the white pick guard with that cream color mother of pearl looking one and I think they were right - bumped it right up!

  • How much does one of those cost new?

  • I heard a rumor that Aerodynes were discontinued. I hope I am wrong. I just looked up Aerodyne Stratocaster and it looks like new ones are around $950 (not widely available). I found mine in a small music shop used for $650 w/ used case. Hope you find one.

  • Thanks because i found one used for 400 and it looks to be in really good condition.

  • Congratulations! That's a great deal... I hope it is perfect for you. I liked your jokes!

  • That was great to listen to, and to watch. You were all the way gone there weren't you ?. beautiful stuff.

  • Glad you liked it Captstrang. I got a little long-winded on this one but I sure was having some fun letting go. I really enjoyed your Shine On, David Gilmore lead. He is my all time favorite player.

  • its really enjoyable listening to your playing, love the background chords:)

  • Thanks bro for listening. I just checked out your blues improvisation and you are waaaay further along than I ever was at your age. Keep rockin!

  • cheers man, much appreciated...or however you spell it :)

  • INTENSE!

  • Glad you liked it. Also glad you're in touch with Fender to resolve your string breakage issue. Saw Mariqueen Mandig (singer for West India Girl) who is very beautiful and from Philippines - figured there must be more like her there!

  • Beautiful indeed!! :)

  • Beautiful playing man, very inspiring (I really dig the strat test too). Thats a beautiful guitar you have there. I have the natural finish one but reds a close 2nd lol.

  • Thanks for watching. I haven't seen the natural finish Aerodyne Strat but I bet it's gorgeous. I put the cream colored pearl pickguard on my red guitar which bumped up the looks a bit. A listener suggested this and they were quite right!

  • loving the sounds man. Great work!

How different is this guitar to a fender strat? I am thinking of getting one of these or an MIM strat but I'd have to pre-order the Aerodyne as it's discontinued but just wanted to find is there a major difference?

Love japanese guitars and that lovely warm rich tone you're getting is making it VERY appealing :)

  • Thanks Neil, glad you liked the jam. The Aerodyne Stat has a thinner body, thin neck, is lighter over all and seems to be better made (Crafted in Japan!). If it is discontinued, I would leap on it as this is guitar plays very well and should grow in value over the years. I did make mods that really refined the sound (see Dan Claunch comment below for details). Keep playing.

  • Wow!

I thought I got a treat when you sent me several of your performances on disc. But seeing you actually play, your expression, your energy that you display is more than a performance its an art driven from both your soul and your fingers!

A very potent performance! I need to film you myself and set you before a background that meets that energy you so beautiful display, not to mention the work in manipulating those fingers!

    TOTAL AWESOME SOUND!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks a lot Misloc, you really made my day. I'm living proof that no matter how old you get, you can still have fun with an electric guitar!

  • That strat sounds amazing in your hands, Doug.

How have we known each other for over 40 years and have never managed to play music together? I'll have to plan a family trip to SD w/ the ulterior motive of stopping by and jamming with you :)

  • Thanks very much Matt. That's because it took me 30 years to begin to learn to play it. Love to see you and your family anytime - I have a drum kit right here and one of my best friends plays bass so SD awaits.

  • fantastic!

  • wow Doug, you are really good. Using many techniques, hammer ons & pull offs and string stretching. The strat sounds great. Nice work on the upper frets.

    Steve walker

  • Many thanks for your learned and specific positive comments. I just watched 9-year-old blues player Tallan Latz blow me away so I really needed to hear what you had to say. Thanks very much!

  • are these original pickups?

  • The pickups are original. However, the sustain block, the bridge plate / bridge screws and the short whammy bar (Gilmore model) are from callaham guitars. The rolled steel sustain block dramatically improves the clarity of the tone over the pot metal version that comes with - well worth the $60. I installed the cream colored pearl pick guard too just for looks.
