The sad thing is that most people who butcher the language and can't spell to save their lives ARE native English speakers. I never blame anybody else though because our language is kind of ridiculous. My second language was Spanish and its easy by comparison!

Aren't they fantastic? I recently rediscovered them and I'm so glad I did. As far as the flag goes, in this video it seems to function as a part of the satire, that is, the absurdity of a musician presented in a godlike manner, wrapped in the American flag as though he represented America. It's highlighted when he struggles to get untangled from the flag. That's just how I read it though. I wouldn't call them patriotic, but I suppose the lyrics are sometimes political.
