@znarf541@magichounddog Hey now, stop the arguing about two legends. What both of you fail to mention is that when they sing in harmony (i.e. together) the world takes a pause for breathe. There's a message there I think. Peace y'all.
@znarf541 hey now... Bonnie is a beautiful woman. And she has aged very gracefully. And Trisha's voice can be appreciated for its innocence... Bonnie's for its wisdom.
Trisha Yearwood has one of the best voices in country music . I own all her cds - her duets are always masterpieces . And Bonnie Raitt is an icon ! This is a work of art .
I don't care who wrote it and performed it first (though I do know). This is theeeee best ever recording of this song. So, if you like it, you had better find a way to copy it b/c it is not on any album that I know of thus far. itunes does not even have this. Dammmm
bonnies mike is not as loud as trishas......and jules piano is nowhere!!.....charlie rich got the piano right!!!......but then....he wrote it!!......just a thought!!1.......
Both excellent singers. I find Bonnie really rather amazing, considering she is quite a bit older. Her voice inflection is something else...but to give Trisha Yearwood credit..."How do I live without you", was an awesome song for her.
I was checking for a music degree in Trisha's bio, but couldn't find one. She obviously learned what she knows from working with other pros.
Even at the beginning of this song she sounded very much like Bonnie. A well tuned ear for nuances.
Does anyone know where to get ahold of this sheet music or a performance soundtrack for this song?? This is the prettiest song I've heard in a long while...
As a non-believer (atheist) it's amazing what the aesthetic of powerful, extraordinary music and voices can do - this almost makes me a believer. I have watched and watched this over the years and it never fails to bring tears to my eyes. I even converted it to an MP3. It's one of my favorite performances of all time.
A rendition as lovely as it is wrenching. For me, however, Charlie Rich's version is above all others -- dang, it just tears your heart out; can't hear it without crying --
The song is written by Charlie Rich. The two ladies are beautiful. I remember the introduction by Jools: "This is a song by Charlie Rich. He had two things going on at the same time. He was a songwriter and here is one of his songs."
This will be played on Continental Drift, 10radio.org August 20th, 5:30 to 7 pm in the UK, 9:30 to 11 am in California and BC. For playlist, see wendelinn.
I am a huge Bonnie Rait fan, always have been, but I had know idea Trisha Yearwood had a set of pipes like this!!! I don't listen to much country music. Thanks for posting this, great song.
It's very powerful. As I remember Jules introduced Charlie Rich as songwriter. . Trish is sweet as never before and ms Raiit is very touched by the song.
I especially like the fine moments when Bonnie and Trisha are really singing together: 1.57 & 2.52. I remember from that time that they afterwards gave each other a big hug. Also Jools' piano is really nice. Remember also that it took a moment before the audience applauded, the moment was so touching.
This is the second best version of this song I've heard. The best and saddest version of this song is in the Christmas episode of My So-Called Life. It's impossible to watch that episode without tearing up!
I hadn't heard this song until I got the DVD there is also another song on this disc by Annie Lennox - Wonderful... which if you can find listen to it...
this is one of the most beautiful songs i know. Performed by two women with beautiful voices. I know the song from charly rich. It reminds me of good old times i had (maybe). thanks for sharing this. peace.
..........What would inspire a person to write this song....do you think?...........What would you have to be feeling in order to put these words down on a piece of paper?.........Melodically beautiful..I agree......but also tragically macabre I think.......
Just incredible........ I love Bonnie and my sister loved Trisha for good reason.. incredible incredible.. Love the emotion Bonnie pours out and the talent of both of them.. doesn't get much better than these two female vocalists right here!
Fantastic. What do the hand-on-heart gestures of both girls at the end mean ? -- they must have known they'd created something special. Jools' smile as he approaches the final chord is delightful. Bob.

Saw this when it was first broadcast on the BBC and by the end I had a lump in my throat and my jaw was on the floor.
If anyone wanted an example of a song done with feeling this is what I would show them.
Perfect sympathetic accompaniment from Jules too.
