  • Bonnie makes every song her and this duet is perfect

  • Random Bellybutton shot

  • great.....

  • This is a good song~ Charlie Rich has nailed it !

  • Love it xoxo

  • Fantastic duet, you can't go wrong pairing Bonnie with anyone. These two together? An unexpected and wonderful gift!

  • Thanks. Except, it is so close to home...I've cried and cried. You are two classics!

  • I never said she wasn't beautiful. But her beauty isn't so much a part of her act as yearwoods. Well, lets wait twenty years...

  • @znarf541 @magichounddog Hey now, stop the arguing about two legends. What both of you fail to mention is that when they sing in harmony (i.e. together) the world takes a pause for breathe. There's a message there I think. Peace y'all.

  • the three people who disliked this must have no soul.

  • Bonnie's twenty years older and not as pretty, but has a way better voice. Trisha's is nice too...

  • @znarf541 hey now... Bonnie is a beautiful woman. And she has aged very gracefully. And Trisha's voice can be appreciated for its innocence... Bonnie's for its wisdom.

  • great song just wish we had some Bonnie guitar in there

  • You're right Morphybum, it ranks right there with the "Hillbillies.

  • I don't comment much but this song is truly oustanding.

The two lady performers are basically the same.

Hard to beat to say the least !!

  • one word....beautiful.

  • damn nearly as good as the Notting Hillbillies

  • If there's a more pleasant listening experience out there, it'll have to wait. I want to savor this for a while.

  • Trisha Yearwood has one of the best voices in country music . I own all her cds - her duets are always masterpieces . And Bonnie Raitt is an icon ! This is a work of art .

  • I don't care who wrote it and performed it first (though I do know). This is theeeee best ever recording of this song. So, if you like it, you had better find a way to copy it b/c it is not on any album that I know of thus far. itunes does not even have this. Dammmm

Best version ever aside from Charlie Rich....

  • if i wasn't homesick....am now

  • Beautiful song! Stellar performance!

  • Lovely - touching - sad.

  • bonnies mike is not as loud as trishas......and jules piano is nowhere!!.....charlie rich got the piano right!!!......but then....he wrote it!!......just a thought!!1.......

  • jools youlucky shit......!!!!!!!!!

  • Both excellent singers. I find Bonnie really rather amazing, considering she is quite a bit older. Her voice inflection is something else...but to give Trisha Yearwood credit..."How do I live without you", was an awesome song for her.

I was checking for a music degree in Trisha's bio, but couldn't find one. She obviously learned what she knows from working with other pros.

Even at the beginning of this song she sounded very much like Bonnie. A well tuned ear for nuances.

  • geweldig

  • What a duet. Trisha is such a great singer. Bonnie sings with all of her life experience behind her. Moving.

  • Absolutely beautiful

  • 1 of the saddest, most profound songs i'v ever heard - bonnie's my #1 girl

  • The sound these two angels make when in harmony is not of this planet.

  • Saw this when it was first broadcast on the BBC and by the end I had a lump in my throat and my jaw was on the floor.

If anyone wanted an example of a song done with feeling this is what I would show them.

Perfect sympathetic accompaniment from Jules too.

  • Does anyone know where to get ahold of this sheet music or a performance soundtrack for this song?? This is the prettiest song I've heard in a long while...

  • As a non-believer (atheist) it's amazing what the aesthetic of powerful, extraordinary music and voices can do - this almost makes me a believer. I have watched and watched this over the years and it never fails to bring tears to my eyes. I even converted it to an MP3. It's one of my favorite performances of all time.

  • A rendition as lovely as it is wrenching. For me, however, Charlie Rich's version is above all others -- dang, it just tears your heart out; can't hear it without crying --

  • Schijtsesssie

  • My two favorite female singers!!!! What a blessing!!!

  • thanks 4 this post

  • yup, pure raw talent.

  • I found this video after a friend ended her own life; and these sweet words brought peace back to my heart. Sometimes only God understands.

  • @WanderingGrace yes I agree. I have lost so many loved ones to suicide. all wonderful people. keep loving!

  • LOVE THEM BOTH!!!! :)

  • This song brought tears. Incredible

  • if only miley cyrus and taylor swift would cover this...NOW THERE IS SOME TALENT.HA HA

  • At 1.05 when Bonnie is starting her singing & Jools are really playing the piano. Uuhh - these voices are so good together.

  • does not come any better!

  • Thanks! The two girls are so sweet.

  • mooi hoor

  • how can I find this to put on my itunes?????

  • how can I find this to put on my itunes?????

  • Like Trisha, but LOVE Bonnie

  • The song is written by Charlie Rich. The two ladies are beautiful. I remember the introduction by Jools: "This is a song by Charlie Rich. He had two things going on at the same time. He was a songwriter and here is one of his songs."

  • This will be played on Continental Drift, 10radio.org August 20th, 5:30 to 7 pm in the UK, 9:30 to 11 am in California and BC. For playlist, see wendelinn.

  • I am a huge Bonnie Rait fan, always have been, but I had know idea Trisha Yearwood had a set of pipes like this!!! I don't listen to much country music. Thanks for posting this, great song.

  • @Robero806

    LIKE !

  • I absolutely love these two women. Both have such clear, strong voices and have such skill at interpreting songs. I'm proud of both of them.

  • even though these ladies can sing, I think the only one with emotion is the mark knopfler/ tom jones version.

  • I have looked for this version since 1998! THANKS A LOT!!!

  • @tontokurt You're welcome. I've listened to it umpteen times and it's still as powerful and moving as the first time I heard it.

  • @BlackFingernailUK

It's very powerful. As I remember Jules introduced Charlie Rich as songwriter. . Trish is sweet as never before and ms Raiit is very touched by the song.

  • @BlackFingernailUK

Somehow - well - hunted me somehow during 12 years.

  • @BlackFingernailUK

I especially like the fine moments when Bonnie and Trisha are really singing together: 1.57 & 2.52. I remember from that time that they afterwards gave each other a big hug. Also Jools' piano is really nice. Remember also that it took a moment before the audience applauded, the moment was so touching.

  • @BlackFingernailUK two beautiful real angels...sending love out there

  • Amazing! So amazing....!

  • I got goosebumps

  • the lad on the piano plays with Mark Knopfler on One Night In London video

  • I would like to hear john prine sing this one.

  • Gorgeous! Two of the greatest female voices ever and singing beautifully together!

  • Trisha yearwood by herslf is awesome but with both of them its the bomb .:) beautiful song

  • Sorry to say, but compared to Brendan Croker this version is no good! Beautiful, yes but not the nerve.

  • I have always loved Bonnie Raitt. She rocks especially in concert. That is one talented woman!

  • I hadn't heard this song until I got the DVD there is also another song on this disc by Annie Lennox - Wonderful... which if you can find listen to it...

  • I'll bet there wasn't a dry eye in the house

  • Yeah I guess that was the comment that Jools did after they finnished the song, so perfectly beautiful.

  • beautiful and so sad 5*****

  • so perfect... what a beautiful blend of two rich voices and a beautiful piano solo

  • some of the greatest female vocalists out there.....go girls!!

  • World class. So sad, but utterly beautiful

  • Perfect.

  • breathtaking!

  • Wow! Just beautiful.

  • and the piano player looks like don camillo. but he did a great job.

  • this is one of the most beautiful songs i know. Performed by two women with beautiful voices. I know the song from charly rich. It reminds me of good old times i had (maybe). thanks for sharing this. peace.

  • Two of the world greatest singers, finding, searching and tuning, as only big girls do...

  • Tears in my trousers!!!!

  • and mark knopfler on guitar, please!!!!

  • inspire, ...a hard life maybe??

sounds like unrequited love to me??

morose, melancholic maybe i think macabre is a bit strong though.

i love the way trisha shoots him a dagger when they get their timing wrong at the intro :)

  • @jcb678 there were no daggers : )

  • ..........What would inspire a person to write this song....do you think?...........What would you have to be feeling in order to put these words down on a piece of paper?.........Melodically beautiful..I agree......but also tragically macabre I think.......

  • love this song so much

  • brilliant version however check out Tom Jones and mark knofflers version on you tube marks guitar solo is brilliant

  • I wish I could give this 10 stars, it's so amazing!!!!

  • Just incredible........ I love Bonnie and my sister loved Trisha for good reason.. incredible incredible.. Love the emotion Bonnie pours out and the talent of both of them.. doesn't get much better than these two female vocalists right here!

  • I keep thinking... if any other country female singer was asked to sing this song... NO ONE WOULD BEAT TRISHA. PERIOD.

  • Waanzinnig!! Waarom staat nou zo'n briljant nummer nou niet op een cd van Trisha Yearwood?? Zou em graag willen hebben!

Amazing!! Want to have this song :-) Who can help find it?

  • It's on a Jools Holland DVD called 'Mellow'

  • Tnx Nazaroonie! I'm gonna buy that dvd.

    Thank you so very much.

  • fantastic voclaists...i wish trisha had the recognition that Bonnie has and could come over to the uk to tour

  • Two influential women in my life. I had never seen or heard this. It touched my soul.

  • Yes my life too, so beautiful, I thought of my Mother and Father that have passed on and I miss them so much. Anna

  • A melhor versão é dos The Walkabouts , do álbum Satifed Mind gostava de encontrar aqui essa versão, se alguem souber onde agradeço.

  • Heart breaking song.

  • Beautiful cover of the great song from the Grand Silver Fox.

  • amazing

  • now that's what I call music!

  • A dying art!

  • It´s incredible, I can´t describe this touching moment. There´s nothing like a sad country song.

  • Simply Amazing ...just so heart felt... 2 of the greatest modern day voices .....

  • beautiful song~ trisha yearwood can sing anything anyway

  • Fantastic. What do the hand-on-heart gestures of both girls at the end mean ? -- they must have known they'd created something special. Jools' smile as he approaches the final chord is delightful. Bob.
