What's to keep him from doing what they said ? No whipping and as far as I know there was no child services then. Back then especially the one thing that kept a child in line was a belt or a switch.

I agree with Sully because his method taught the child responsibility and it gave him a glimp of having to work had for his food. Without school farmings whats left.
