That's not what happens. Maximum level speed is between 11000 and around 15000 metres to start with. High altitudes are reached by trading airspeed, 23780m for 2min.
An Egyptian pilot discovered the engine destruction problem in 1973. The Soviets speed restricted the Foxbat to 2.5 Mach normally, above this speed only 90% throttle could be used. Egyptians ignored safety measures. The non-bypass engines oversped with runaway rpm and the Foxbat-B was clocked at 3.2 Mach but destroyed its engines.
It was not the speed, or the oil or overheating. It is a phenomena called "runaway rpm" or engine overspeeding. Google it. Happens with non-bypass turbojets at high speed, all of them do it, speed is different depending on which airframe/engine fitment.
The Foxbat does it anywhere above 2.5 Mach.
As for the Egyptian Foxbat-B, it is a matter of the historical record, clocked by Egyptian ground stations in 1973. Google that too. It was first time it happened.
Mate, look up engine overspeeding. It's an engineering fact.
Second, the E-155 which made the altitude record (118,898ft) was a cleaned up and modified prototype, the same kind as the one which made the speed record both in 1967.
In level flight the Foxbat-A can get 68,000ft with full load and the Foxbat-E can get 78,000ft.
The big advance of the MiG-31 is its low bypass Aviadvigatel engines don't overspeed and are more efficient at altitude, so maximum level speed can actually be attained up to 21000 metres and is the airframe speed limit (2.83 Mach).
The highest speed clocked by Russians using the Foxbat was 2.8 Mach even over a 1000km closed circuit in 1967, but as I said they used safe measures for its operation to prevent engine overspeeding.
Firstly you're not understanding what I'm writing. Secondly you're not looking things up and obviously haven't done any research to try to understand what I'm talking about.
Don't trust me. Trust the engineering websites and historical record I'm referring to. Look it up mate. Save the competitive argumentation for something competitive.
Sir Frank Whittle talking about engine overspeeding:
"When I started to open the fuel supply valve to the main burner, immediately, with a rising scream, the engine began to accelerate out of control. I promptly shut the control valve, but the uncontrolled acceleration continued."
Foxbat had airframe limit 2.83 Mach. Set world speed record 2.802 Mach 1967 was fastest Russian speed in it. Egyptian Foxbat-B reached 3.2 Mach only because engine overspeeding which destroyed its engines. Get it?
According to Mikoyan Design Bureau the Foxbat is speed limited to 2.5 Mach under normal conditions, a safety restriction given to Soviet pilots.
When travelling above 2.5 Mach pilots should not use more than 90% throttle to prevent engine overspeeding. The maximum airframe limit is 2.83 Mach. Maximum cruising speed is 2.35 Mach.
the first foxbats were made of titanium, that's why their speed limit was 3.2, not cos of engines. the mass-prodused foxbats were made of stainless steel, so they were heavyer and slower.
Soviet night time intercepts worked out real well there with KAL 007!! Mindless GCA intercept cost how many people their lives?? Mmmm..yeah I'm gonna put that in my logbook along with the unmanned drone I shot down too! You're just a killer commie aren't you?? Maybe you can come to America and advise Obama on public relations flights? He can help you with that green card problem because he likes socialist commies.
In the 70s this was one of the most powerful warplanes in the world. I would only consider the F-14 somewhat superior...altought the tomcat was slower.
MiG 25? Fastest Battle Plane - MiG 31 new version Speed over 3000 km h - Absoljute World Record by Aleksandr Fedotov in Mig 25 - 36240 meters above sea - greatest plane !!!
The MiG-25 was developed in great haste and with what was already on hand. All they wanted it to do was take off, be vectored to the target (a high-altitude bomber), fire missiles, and return to base. Fighter escorts would be dealt with by MiG-21's or SAM's. It was the fault of U.S. intelligence that they overrated the MiG-25 but then, the F-15 would never have been developed if we already knew how limited the MiG-25 was.
Mig Pilot.. the story of his defection, one of the best books about Russia I've ever read.. BTW, I love Russian girls, bring more to America! We love them here.
Ya well see they didn't steal it, one of your loyal pilots must have gotten lost or somthing and landed on a japanese airfield. The americans being the nice people they are took good care or the pilot and returned the plane in several crates for its safe transport. I wonder what the next russian plane is that will get lost and have to be shipped back will be?
The first casualty of Desert Storm (1991) was a USN F/A-18 shot down by an IrAF MiG-25PD with a single missile, considering the Iraqi pilot training wasn't anywhere near the Russian/Soviet level. That's how awesome MiG-25 is!
It wasn't the first casualty it was a casualty, and how many allied caualtie were there? anyway I won't take away from the jet itself it does what it was designed to do well. Go fast fire missile and get out of thre. 5 G max in a turn so if it ever got into a dogfight its screwed.
The Mig 25 was awesome at what it was originally designed to do. Take off, haul serious ass, fire missiles at incoming aircraft, turn around, and land. It was an interceptor, and excelled at that role. One of my favorite planes.
Partly correct. MiG-25 (Reconnaissance version) and MiG-31 are still serving Russian AF. MiG-25 (fighter version) was withdrawn from Russian and other CIS AFs in 1994.
thats because the mig 25 all have new engines every time they go over mach 2.8. and how many mig25 were produced and how many shot down? now SR71 never shot down can boot along all day at 3+ land and ready to go again. only a couple dozen produced and has NEVER been shot down. it is not required anymore so somthing has obviously been replaced by somthing.
And do u know why did he land there ??? coz u faggot payed that traitor to steal his plane.Than u tooked the aircraft and made the f-15 , but still failed :)
None of those wars were won by the aggressors. Boots on the ground with high morale and tolerance to losses that is what determines battles. Hardware just makes it easier.
PS Those that don't know history are doomed to repeat it
Mind you, that now they don't have a steady supply of American Stingers, German and English mines, Chinese and Albanian (paid for by US) AK-47s and Israeli RPGs... You have the right to disagree with me all you want. But history proves you wrong. US had air superiority in Nam, We had it in Afghanistan, France in Algeria, Belgium in Congo, South Africa in Mozambique, Germany had it over USSR (in 41, 42).
At that time it there was a rumor that Americans were already "in the air" to interfere, so Soviets decided to put boots on the ground. As far as defeating Taleban you make me laugh. What foreign power supports them now? In the 80s USA CREATED and ARMED Taleban to the tune of $4Bil a year. I don't see you making too much progress now either.
Same applies to the Soviet war in Afghanistan. But you can't compare the reasons why we went there in 1979 with your's in 2001. In 79 Afghanistan was up for grabs. Pro-American and supported by Pakistan Hafizullah Amin killed President Taraki and usurped power. USSR became alert, because they did not more US bases close by. Later, ministers from Taraki's government organized (with our help) a revolt and took over and killed Amin.
As per your Vietnam statement: WTF, are U for real???
You were there for what, 10 ~ 15 years. Yeah, the diplomatic blunder was that your prez started that war. You lost that war not because you were weak militarily or did not know how to fight. It just was wrong war. A war of aggression. Your army was demoralized, your populous was against it and your country practically went bankrupt.
Imagine, you are in a comfee B2 20km above ground, suddenly you hit an aerial hole 5km deep. G-forces of a 5km freefall will break the sucker up (not to mention the crew).
Damn, this 500 char limit is getting on my nerve :-\
Ask yrslf what will happen if some1 knocks out GPS. 2/3 of your smart bombs 'll become a pile of metal. Electromagnetic space-bombs are designed just for that (we got them since the 70s!). Now about Plasma. U know, things keep flying only due to PHYSICAL qualities of the air. If you change them, it will affect aerodynamics.
If you could read Russian I would give you some links to blogs where former and present russian military discuss how much bigger Russian (military) dick is bigger and more lubricated ;-) HoweWa, It is not Russians but Americans are catching up in Space. It is your shuttles that keep blowing up, and our Soyuzes keep taking your pips up there.
Yeah, you have satellites and GPS. But all of that is based on microchips.
Oh Afganistan is a millatary and diplomatic success for the USA, but not for Russia LOL. Russia couldent even beat the Taliban LOL!! There is no dickmeasuring here, its like comparing a black mans dick to chinese mans, we got the bigger dick. Russia is not even in the top 20 richest countries. I dissagree with everything you said in this paragraph. I think what determins the battle is air/space superiority.
The SR71 had a variation called the A12 armed with Hughes GAR-9/AIM-47 long range missles!!! I like the Mig 25, but it doesnt compare to the A12. The A12 would have raped the mig in the ass!! The only thing the Mig 25 could shoot down is the predator UAV LOL
If you look at History of Soviet/American arms race you can see this pattern. US spends billions on some "metal", than Russians spend millions rendering it useles. Sometimes it would be reversed. Bottom line is that our arms r more or less at par with each one. U got B2, we got s400 to shoot it, you got You got Abrams, we got RPG-29, you got Apache we got Strela-10. You got subs, we got Topol M. The most important thing is in the war is skills and bolls. We got both. do U?
You have RPG's we have Anti RPG systems coming soon, Israel already has this Anti RPG system for tanks.
You have Topol M we got Anti missle lasers, on ground, air, and space. I know a scientist that works with lasers in los alamos he gave his nephew peices of a mortar that got blown up in mid air by this laser system. What now bitch!?!?! Name better weapons
Ok what you dont know is that america has long had this technology themselves. Look at the F22 exhaust system, its ionized. The B2 has thousends of volts of electricity running across its wings, the purpose, classified.
Last I heard they were whining like little bitches only because Hezbolla had few Kornets and RPG-29s. Only handfull of those "instruments" stopped a 900Lb guerilla armed with 100's of planes, bombs, missiles, ships, tanks. Now, as per A-17, where is it deployed? Notice I only takl about stuff that is in the field already.
OMG you think that America doesnt have space vehicles...LOL. Even im not so foolish as to say Russia doesnt have similar space technology. What you dont understand is that Russia is poorer than Monaco LOL.
This thread is dedicated to Mig25. One who knows anything about aviation can see almost immidiately that Mig25/31 and SR71 were made 4 different goals in mind. SR71 to fly with impunity and take pics. Mig25/31 is FIGHTER INTERCEPTER. Aside from SR71 Mig could get pretty much any other plane from the American menue. Moreover, there were only handfull SR71s ever made all but 3 are retired. There were few THOUSANDS of Mig25/31 made and half of them are still in operation
I dont know where your getting your facts but the SR71 did fly over mainland Russia several times!! The U2 was too slow. And no you are wrong if you think the MIG 25 was the most worthy jetfighter, in that time. We would have won most ecounters due to our more advanced missle radar systems. We would have gotten first lock first kill advantage just like we have now with the F22.
It does not make scense to argue about old and ablolete stuff. Bottom line is that Russians lied that they could get SR71 and Americans lied that they rubbed russians face in dirt all the time. I am old enough to remember that in those days (especially after U2 blunder) Americans knew that any mistake could cause a nuclear war. Don't believe everything History Channel tells you. A big chunk of it is lie/propaganda/exageration/misleading.
That is partly because they have never flown over mainland USSR. After U2 fiasco in 1960. Americans were very hesitant sticking their noses too far in-land. They Have only irritated Russian AirDefs. in the Far East. Most SR71 missions were in the South East Asia. And in Vietnam there were no Mig25s
Yes this information was the early declassified missions. Now we have more declassified Sr 71 missions, including ones over mainland Russia. Anytime the Soviets shot a missle all the SR 71 would have to do is to turn, and the missles would miss. Nowdays the Russian would use ground laser systems, and shoot down a Sr 71 with chemical lasers.
Mig 25 has set 5 World records in speed and altitude. 3 of those records by (future cosmonaut) Svetlana Savitskaya are sill standing. Along side with records, there were scandals. On Spt. 6 1976 lieutenant Belenko while on the mission defected to Japan. Group of 3 engineers went to recover stolen plane. Plane was returned to the USSR fully disassembled. State secrets were compromised. When dust from the incident settled work to better the plane continued :-}
Mig 25s never fully realized its potentials. Problem was not the design, rather under-trained pilots and wrong tactics. Mig 25 was intended to be used as PART in the sophisticated air deffense system. It was not intended for lone missions and dog fights. Middle Eastern was shown that only having reliable cooperation and coordination between air defense, air force navy and ground troops will define victory.
World saw Mig 25 1st time in Egypt in 1971. 5 MIG 25R (reconnaissance) (with Soviet crews and support stuff) were sent there. Entire Israeli air force was powerless to intercept migs. Migs flew 22km over Israel at 3000 km/h pictures came out very clear...
Stripped down versions of Mig25 were sold to many countries, but it was built with Russia in mind. Pilots and engineers could walk all over the plane, climb inside engines and simply weld cracks when those appeared
Mig 25 was not only designed to intercept SR-71. In that time there were no planes able to fly faster than M2,5. Mig 25 was intended to create a whole new family of high altitude interceptors. Making such plane required some theoretical and engineering problems resolved. Tail design was one of them...
No you fucking dumb Russian!! This aircraft could never shoot down the SR 71 becuase the 71 was to fast for it to ever catch up. The SR 71 has the speed and altitude record, dont be stupid, check the facts before you open your fucken dumb corn poned Russian mouth!! Stupid uneduacated idiot!!
While designing Mig 25 designers stumbled upon heat problem.
While flying near M3 aluminum was heating so much so it would loose its useful qualities. Good designers just like good polititians should constantly challenge dogmas. So in case of Mig 25, Soviet desiners made it out of steel (!).
Mig 25 speed up to 3000km/h thrust up to 22,000 kg until 1965 was the most secret project in the USSR.
Wow, supercool plane!! to bad the Russian comments of the narator, and interviewed people (designers?) are not subtitled. I love'd to know the comments in the video.
On a one on one basis, Americans are some of the most decent people on earth. They are easily brainwashed which makes it easy to spend their tax dollars raping the rest of the world (for the benefit of a select few). If they were exposed to the problems they cause, they wouldn't want to do so. This is why GW Bush wanted to bomb Al Jazeera. A great shame!
I remember in my infancy. The MIG-25 that settled in Japan in 1976. It was what a fever started on airplanes of combat in my school. They had speculated that it was invisible to the radar could abate many American airplanes. We lived a period of military dictatorship here in Brazil. Everything what it was of "communist" origin. He was duly censured. Or they passed ideas missed on these equipment. But exactly thus I fascinated by the Russian airplanes.

LMAO
Yeah right an engine that defeats all laws of inertia.
I think not.
At high altitude there is less fricition.
That means an aircraft at the same RPM flying lower will be slower.
Engines are only supposed to rev at a certain speed. Once you go into the red the engine is over reving and damage will be caused.
USArCOWARDS 3 years ago
Mate, look up engine overspeeding. It's an engineering fact.
Second, the E-155 which made the altitude record (118,898ft) was a cleaned up and modified prototype, the same kind as the one which made the speed record both in 1967.
In level flight the Foxbat-A can get 68,000ft with full load and the Foxbat-E can get 78,000ft.
01vanir 3 years ago
Actually edit that last reply, the Egyptian Foxbat was clocked by Israeli ground stations. Typo.
01vanir 3 years ago
The big advance of the MiG-31 is its low bypass Aviadvigatel engines don't overspeed and are more efficient at altitude, so maximum level speed can actually be attained up to 21000 metres and is the airframe speed limit (2.83 Mach).
The highest speed clocked by Russians using the Foxbat was 2.8 Mach even over a 1000km closed circuit in 1967, but as I said they used safe measures for its operation to prevent engine overspeeding.

Now claiming the foxbat world record is 2.8 mach.
Great.

01vanir 3 years ago
Ive looked plenty of things up.
I also understand that there is no such thing as "runaway rpm"
Only over reving.
And the historical records tell me that the zoom altitude record was probably done by the fastest mig 25 not some Eygptian export.
USArCOWARDS 3 years ago
Sir Frank Whittle talking about engine overspeeding:
"When I started to open the fuel supply valve to the main burner, immediately, with a rising scream, the engine began to accelerate out of control. I promptly shut the control valve, but the uncontrolled acceleration continued."
Foxbat had airframe limit 2.83 Mach. Set world speed record 2.802 Mach 1967 was fastest Russian speed in it. Egyptian Foxbat-B reached 3.2 Mach only because engine overspeeding which destroyed its engines. Get it?
01vanir 3 years ago
Yes its called over reving.
Going into the red.
And at full throttle at high altitude it made the mig 25 capable of over mach 3.
A speed needed to attack the SR71 the threat it was built to deal with.
USArCOWARDS 3 years ago

YakAV8R 2 years ago
According to Mikoyan Design Bureau the Foxbat is speed limited to 2.5 Mach under normal conditions, a safety restriction given to Soviet pilots.
When travelling above 2.5 Mach pilots should not use more than 90% throttle to prevent engine overspeeding. The maximum airframe limit is 2.83 Mach. Maximum cruising speed is 2.35 Mach.
01vanir 3 years ago
yeah right.
Tell me about Soviet safty restrictions.
Tell me how during night time dog fights Soviet fighter pilot protcol was to ram the enemy jet.
USArCOWARDS 3 years ago
the first foxbats were made of titanium, that's why their speed limit was 3.2, not cos of engines. the mass-prodused foxbats were made of stainless steel, so they were heavyer and slower.

MiG 25? Fastest Battle Plane - MiG 31 new version Speed over 3000 km h - Absoljute World Record by Aleksandr Fedotov in Mig 25 - 36240 meters above sea - greatest plane !!!
3dimon3 3 years ago
The MiG-25 was developed in great haste and with what was already on hand. All they wanted it to do was take off, be vectored to the target (a high-altitude bomber), fire missiles, and return to base. Fighter escorts would be dealt with by MiG-21's or SAM's. It was the fault of U.S. intelligence that they overrated the MiG-25 but then, the F-15 would never have been developed if we already knew how limited the MiG-25 was.

5 G max in a turn so if it ever got into a dogfight its screwed.
coldshot357 3 years ago
The Mig 25 was awesome at what it was originally designed to do. Take off, haul serious ass, fire missiles at incoming aircraft, turn around, and land. It was an interceptor, and excelled at that role. One of my favorite planes.

Mig-25 and MIg-31 still fly but Sr-71 HABU is in museum(few are kept in flyable condition)

Partly correct. MiG-25 (Reconnaissance version) and MiG-31 are still serving Russian AF. MiG-25 (fighter version) was withdrawn from Russian and other CIS AFs in 1994.
phmleung 4 years ago
thats because the mig 25 all have new engines every time they go over mach 2.8. and how many mig25 were produced and how many shot down? now SR71 never shot down can boot along all day at 3+ land and ready to go again. only a couple dozen produced and has NEVER been shot down. it is not required anymore so somthing has obviously been replaced by somthing.

Mind you, that now they don't have a steady supply of American Stingers, German and English mines, Chinese and Albanian (paid for by US) AK-47s and Israeli RPGs... You have the right to disagree with me all you want. But history proves you wrong. US had air superiority in Nam, We had it in Afghanistan, France in Algeria, Belgium in Congo, South Africa in Mozambique, Germany had it over USSR (in 41, 42).

part6

I am tired of all of these dick measurement contests.
My point is that Russia and USA have Great arms. When it comes to actual wars, the outcome depends on the following:
-How many are deployed
-How well trained and experienced is the personel
-How good are the tactics
-Who is more determined and willing to sacrifice more
Actually the last 2 should come first. Case and point: Vietnam, Afganistan, Lebanon...
ok131583 4 years ago
Veitnam was a diplomatic failure, not millitary.

The only thing the Mig 25 could shoot down is the predator UAV LOL
lemansbmwracer 4 years ago
If you look at History of Soviet/American arms race you can see this pattern. US spends billions on some "metal", than Russians spend millions rendering it useles. Sometimes it would be reversed. Bottom line is that our arms r more or less at par with each one. U got B2, we got s400 to shoot it, you got You got Abrams, we got RPG-29, you got Apache we got Strela-10. You got subs, we got Topol M. The most important thing is in the war is skills and bolls. We got both. do U?
ok131583 4 years ago
You have Strela-10, We have the Comanche.
You have S400 we have A-17 Attack space vehicle
You have RPG's we have Anti RPG systems coming soon, Israel already has this Anti RPG system for tanks.
You have Topol M we got Anti missle lasers, on ground, air, and space. I know a scientist that works with lasers in los alamos he gave his nephew peices of a mortar that got blown up in mid air by this laser system. What now bitch!?!?! Name better weapons
lemansbmwracer 4 years ago

ok131583 4 years ago
Ok what you dont know is that america has long had this technology themselves. Look at the F22 exhaust system, its ionized. The B2 has thousends of volts of electricity running across its wings, the purpose, classified.
lemansbmwracer 4 years ago
Oh Oh Ph, since you mentioned Israel.
Notice I only takl about stuff that is in the field already.
ok131583 4 years ago
OMG you think that America doesnt have space vehicles...LOL. Even im not so foolish as to say Russia doesnt have similar space technology. What you dont understand is that Russia is poorer than Monaco LOL.
lemansbmwracer 4 years ago
This thread is dedicated to Mig25. One who knows anything about aviation can see almost immidiately that Mig25/31 and SR71 were made 4 different goals in mind. SR71 to fly with impunity and take pics. Mig25/31 is FIGHTER INTERCEPTER. Aside from SR71 Mig could get pretty much any other plane from the American menue. Moreover, there were only handfull SR71s ever made all but 3 are retired. There were few THOUSANDS of Mig25/31 made and half of them are still in operation
ok131583 4 years ago
I dont know where your getting your facts but the SR71 did fly over mainland Russia several times!! The U2 was too slow. And no you are wrong if you think the MIG 25 was the most worthy jetfighter, in that time. We would have won most ecounters due to our more advanced missle radar systems. We would have gotten first lock first kill advantage just like we have now with the F22.
lemansbmwracer 4 years ago
It does not make scense to argue about old and ablolete stuff. Bottom line is that Russians lied that they could get SR71 and Americans lied that they rubbed russians face in dirt all the time. I am old enough to remember that in those days (especially after U2 blunder) Americans knew that any mistake could cause a nuclear war. Don't believe everything History Channel tells you. A big chunk of it is lie/propaganda/exageration/misleading.
ok131583 4 years ago
I have to absolutly agree with everything you said in this paragraph.
lemansbmwracer 4 years ago
SR71 never was shut down, true.
That is partly because they have never flown over mainland USSR. After U2 fiasco in 1960. Americans were very hesitant sticking their noses too far in-land. They Have only irritated Russian AirDefs. in the Far East. Most SR71 missions were in the South East Asia. And in Vietnam there were no Mig25s
ok131583 4 years ago
Yes this information was the early declassified missions. Now we have more declassified Sr 71 missions, including ones over mainland Russia. Anytime the Soviets shot a missle all the SR 71 would have to do is to turn, and the missles would miss. Nowdays the Russian would use ground laser systems, and shoot down a Sr 71 with chemical lasers.

Part 5
Mig 25 has set 5 World records in speed and altitude. 3 of those records by (future cosmonaut) Svetlana Savitskaya are sill standing. Along side with records, there were scandals. On Spt. 6 1976 lieutenant Belenko while on the mission defected to Japan. Group of 3 engineers went to recover stolen plane. Plane was returned to the USSR fully disassembled. State secrets were compromised. When dust from the incident settled work to better the plane continued :-}
ok131583 4 years ago
part 4
Mig 25s never fully realized its potentials. Problem was not the design, rather under-trained pilots and wrong tactics. Mig 25 was intended to be used as PART in the sophisticated air deffense system. It was not intended for lone missions and dog fights. Middle Eastern was shown that only having reliable cooperation and coordination between air defense, air force navy and ground troops will define victory.
ok131583 4 years ago
Part 3
World saw Mig 25 1st time in Egypt in 1971. 5 MIG 25R (reconnaissance) (with Soviet crews and support stuff) were sent there. Entire Israeli air force was powerless to intercept migs. Migs flew 22km over Israel at 3000 km/h pictures came out very clear...
Stripped down versions of Mig25 were sold to many countries, but it was built with Russia in mind. Pilots and engineers could walk all over the plane, climb inside engines and simply weld cracks when those appeared
ok131583 4 years ago
Part 2
Mig 25 was not only designed to intercept SR-71. In that time there were no planes able to fly faster than M2,5. Mig 25 was intended to create a whole new family of high altitude interceptors. Making such plane required some theoretical and engineering problems resolved. Tail design was one of them...
There were various modifications of Mig 25.
ok131583 4 years ago
No you fucking dumb Russian!! This aircraft could never shoot down the SR 71 becuase the 71 was to fast for it to ever catch up. The SR 71 has the speed and altitude record, dont be stupid, check the facts before you open your fucken dumb corn poned Russian mouth!! Stupid uneduacated idiot!!

Part 1
Mig 25 is all about speed and altitude.

On a one on one basis, Americans are some of the most decent people on earth. They are easily brainwashed which makes it easy to spend their tax dollars raping the rest of the world (for the benefit of a select few).
