that was good but the part where u do triplets on the hi hat u should be opening and closing in on the foot pedal beats..... but other that that it was good
That was pretty fucking amazing. I definately think Rock Band helps with drumming skills, as I did fairly well my first time on a real drum kit after about two years of Rock Band.
For someone who's never played real drums before, that's pretty good.
Of course, your technique was kinda crappy, and you missed a lot of minor stuff like half-open hi-hats (the whole time pretty much) and flams, but you're new. Listen to the song more before playing it if you ever do it again - red+yellow isn't always snare+hi-hat - sometimes it's a flam on the snare, and the hi-hats aren't always fully closed. Try to hit the ride cymbal more on the top, not the edge, for that "ting" sound.
Sometimes the blue isn't the ride cymbal, its sometimes the open hi-hat then closed at the end of the note (cant remember what its called... that part in tom sawyer with the synth piece before the solo... the part where he hits the hi hat then closes it to cut off the sound...) u just gotta know the song to know which parts that is lol, its not always gonna b the crash/ride :P
very intresting way to learn on the set....not to far off...hope your not lieing about having no drumming backgrund because for a first timer that is really good
I have a few (See: 8) years of piano behind me, four years of Saxophone (Alto and Baritone), and I've tried unsuccessfully to learn guitar, but nope, I've never had any prior drum experience. So thanks ^^
LAMO! i do this all the time...i was wondering if anybody else did it....its kinda weird the first couple times through but after that you dont even really need the screen....great training tool....
That's the problem with being a student and living in an apartment. It's hard to get access to a drum kit to practice on. I'd love to see how much I've improved since I made this video, I still play Rock Band 2 almost daily.
dude thats great for someone that never played real drums. good job try and tighten the ride. its a bit loose. and yea take jakevinyard33 advice. the tip of the stick is supposed to be hitting for the type of sound your want for that part
you're welcome .. and try hitting closer to the middle and see how different the sound ranges , so you know what would suit the song more .. i dont know if that made sense , but .. i tried , and thats what matters :P .
Well when you think about it, people have been making a lot of money just by playing video games. About time we actually learn something useful while we're at it!
dude nice job!!!! just watch that you don't rush (haha bad puns) coming from your fills back into the beat
this shows you that this game is good for something, teaching the youth of america how to play drums, it took me 8 years to get where i am now in my drumming (i can play this and other Rush songs; YYZ, Tom Sawyer, etc), and this game has been out for, what, 8 months? that's impressive. it can quickly teach you how to play.
but now go and learn songs by ear. it's much harder, but impressive
don't ever let your "buddy" record you though. I really only care about seeing the drummer and I can pick out if the drummer messes up so I don't really need to see the note chart either.
Now, other than that, this is pretty bad ass. Good shit.
Every time I watch myself I realize just how bad I was in this vid. But considering my lack of any experience at all, I still feel pretty good about it.
My son is a RB master and his favorite is Sandman. I put him behind the real drums and he was amazed that he could do a lot of it. Great crossover training! There is detail missing but a great place to start. You need to find a kit on ebay and keep up the work! Anything Peart is very advanced and I struggle with it myself -- your HH work was good! Move your TT further right so your reach is better :D
The only problem with these "Rock Band on real drum" videos is that they all lack the finesse that experience brings. Without the "drummers touch" it sounds robotic and soul-less.
Now... for a beginner - I think it's pretty impressive. Good job dude.
i've been playing expert drums for a while now and was thinking about picking up real drums cause i figured the skills would transfer... thanks for the vid :D
Thanks! I've got quite literally 2 hours of practice behind this. Of all the songs I played with this setup, Limelight was both my favorite and my best, so I got a video of it.
No problem, hey, I give praise where it is needed. I too am an expert fake guituarist, as well as an expert fake drummer. But you're obviously more of a pro than I.
Five stars for not being a faker. Rightous!

Yeah, it DOES work..
But you still have to know the song you are playing, and somewhat how to play the real drums.
There are small things that are different, and obviously there is a lot more going on than on RockBand..
You can get a feel of playing the real drums on RockBand. If you play on expert, then you should try a real kit out, and see how you like it.
SoFresh1337 2 years ago
I always wondered if that really worked, i guess it does, and you did a good job for someone who doesnt play drums :D
DropkickMurphys12 2 years ago
hilarious - not a half bad cover either. you should be proud..
now how is that for real drumming - beats rock band any day of the week, doesnt it.!

Did you know that the sticks that come with Rock Band (1 and 2 stock kits) are real, 7A drumsticks? Ya.
And the ones that come with the ION kit are real 5Bs.

excellent for an up and coming drummer
keep it up, hope you cover more RB songs!

Hey, thanks
I'd like to do more of these vids, problem is I don't have access to a real kit.
I could start putting some videos up with my IONs though

I think going from color-coded play drums to a real drum set and actually making it sound half way decent is pretty damn impressive.

I agree 150% man i wish i could play that good... It might not be the best but fawk it's still impressive... It's pretty amazing IMO.

that shit is innacurate. the ride cymbal is supposed to be rolled, not in 16ths. btw rockband has a shitty drumkit.

However, that's not the case. :(

huh... this is a good idea for drum training...
just give people some colored tape for the drums to mark them, then give them the scrolling 'notes'

Not everything transfers over. You have to keep time by yourself, and each of the four colors can represent two or more different things.
But beyond that it's a great way to get started.
