  • wow i just heard this for the first time on satellite radio the other day, i cant believe this band never made it....great song

  • I am selling the orig 1986 Shelter Lp for $35 or best offer..in very good condition..please email me..

  • please leave the religious shit at the door thank you. What a stunning voice this lady had, what a song, what a band... this era really was the best

  • Haven't heard this song in years. It came out when I was a sophmore in HS and brings back ALOT of memories. Thanks for posting.

  • Really nice song, beautiful lyrics, great vocal. Song written and sung from the heart. You can tell it's very personal.

  • What a great song - I get chills everytime I hear it - which is every night - I have this song book marked!! Thank u lone justice! This song means a lot to me!

  • If possible, please add the video for "Ways To Be Wicked" to this channel. There are currently no descent quality versions of it anywhere on YouTube. Anybody else who would like to see that video added to "LoneJusticeVEVO," just click the thumbs up symbol on this post.

  • @elderberry9 I am of course referring to the original studio version of the video, not one of the live versions.

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever!

  • she gave me hope

  • I can't write how important this song was to me at one time. needless to say, 20 plus years LATER it means something else. The lyrics and melody remind me not of what could have been but what is with the help of Jesus. Jesus is my Shelter. The pain, longing and sorrow the song speaks about has been deposited in the hands of my creator. I still love the song and hopefully with more time the memories will not sting as much.

  • A song to listen 500 years from now.

    Let's hope I don't forget :-)

One of my favourite singers ever.

  • Maria is heavenly for sure! Mr. Make Believe says it best. Whoever was lucky enough to stumble upon Lone Justice before "Shelter" was just that...lucky. Because of controlled radio airplay and stupid exec's from the music industry, bands like LJ and many more like them just did not get promoted properly and therefore, many folks missed out. Now with YouTube, they'll find new fans hopefully! Go Maria ~ Love your music and talent and will listen forever! Katz

  • This is such an incredibly beautiful song!! Maria McKee has always been a tremendously talented woman with a strongly enthusiastic singing voice and a very brilliant knowledge for songwriting. Lone Justice was always an extremely underrated band unfortunately, but for the short time they were together, Maria McKee made a difference to the world of eighties folk pop music. I rest my case.

    ~Mr. Make Believe

  • Kongpinchen, Maria McKee is still around and has a fanpage on Facebook. She even responded to some of my complements to her body of work since Lone Justice broke up. She remains a towering talent who still occasionally performs. Look at the breadth of her talent in just the 2 Lone Justice albums alone but she went on to become far, far greater than even that. I agree it's tragic Lone Justice didn't endure for much, much longer.

  • I miss this band so much. Where are they now?? ><

  • One of the 80's bands that should still be around.

  • Dont read this cuz it actually works. u will be kissed in the nearest possible Friday by the love of your life. Tommorrow will be the best day of yoyr life. However, if u do not post this comment on atleast 3 videos, you will die within 2 days. now you've started reading this, dont stop. this is so scary. Put this on atleast 5 videos within 143 minutes and when youre done, press F6 and your lover's name will appear on the screen in big letters. This is so scary cuz it actually

  • Good music has a great voice, emotionally accurate melody and truth. For example, "when the world crushes you" let someone be your shelter.

  • When lyrics were cherished for every melodic syllable. She's a gem

  • I remember when this band came onto the scene. Their album was excellent and then it seemed like they were gone. What happened to this band? Where did they go?

    THIS SONG 4EVER!!!!!!

  • I love this song...

  • Maria McKee was fabulous. Whatever happened to her?

  • Have their stuff on old cassettes (only old people get that). Just love Maria's voice. This song in particular evokes powerful memories for me. Great Post.

  • Lose the 80s production values (gated verb snare and synth string pads etc) and this would stand the test of time. There was some great music from the 80s that now sounds hopelessly dated by the cheesey "modern" technology of the day. Even 50s 60s and 70s sounds hold up today! something about the 80s!

  • Great song. Its a shame they don't make them like this anymore. Songs at this time had MEANING and weren't about apple bottom jeans and gettng slammed in the backseat of some thugs car, or about your boyfriend smacking you around and cheating on you. I really miss this era of music, the music today is HORRIFIC.

  • I remember MTV actually playing them once upon a time, side by side with the big pop singles of the day. It was such a great time to be able to absorb Top40 fodder as well as music that could have so easily been misplaced.

  • I believe Linda Ronstadt was a driving force in Geffen records signing Lone Justice....and I believe Little Steven co wrote this song with Maria

  • I once saw Lone Justice at the now defunct Golden Bear in Huntington Beach, California. Ya know, its no wonder Linda Ronstadt goes to Maria's shows, because they tore the roof off the place!!!

  • Unbelievable song! When I first heard it back in 1987 (I was 15 at the time) it really blew me away. Now 24 years later, I still love listening to this song!

  • Moonlight And Valentino brought me here. Such a beautiful song!

  • There I was driving down the freeway in San Diego and I heard the most incredible song on a college radio station. It was "Sweet, Sweet, Baby" and I almost wrecked. Who is this band? I had to know. After the DJ said it was "Lone Justice" I drove straight to the record store, bought the cassette tape, and became a huge fan. But, my devotion slowly faded because LJ's second album was not good and Maria's little cowpunk boots walked away into the darkness of rock opera.

  • I was taken in custody because of my sadness and depression which i had suffered for years and do to hear say or what someone's opinion carnival has the right to take custody of you and lock you in a room and now great fears shame on Carnival Splendor and so angry at them when I just tried to find shelter from my new found homelessness begged them to let me stay food bed cold drink next week they were stranded shame on you. My rights as citizen life and liberty should be on sea carivals property

  • I feel Maria's eyes looking into my soul at 1:51. Powerful.

  • bella e brava.

  • Maria McKee you amaze me!

  • I Love this Song! Thanks!!

  • 'Shelter' a nice song, but this, I guess Mark II ot III Lone Justice...This all Jimmy Iovine & Little Steven with that bif 80s 'mafia/mob' sound, big snare drum & synthesizers....I don't think Iovine have an idea of country or country rock; he may think Bruce Springsteen 'country rock'...The original band with 'Cactus Rose', 'Train Song' and the like didn't play with Iovine/Little Syeven...

  • The rythem section of this great song is not close to country. The quick triplet on the bass drum is the dead give away.NO country, just good rock pop and a liitle funky.

  • Sure it's got big drums, keyboards and it's pop but it's still timeless. And mostly because of the totally incredible vocal track by Maria McKee. She sings like a fallen angel on this cut. Sells it for me totally and I am not ashamed to say I love this song. It's got some fire and beauty in it for sure. She takes it over and brings it to a plateau of pop exquisiteness that few singers could manage. Got a Madonna look going with her hair but i still find her a very pretty woman in her own right.

  • Good Lord, she can SING!!! Anyone remember her duet with Dwight Yoakam, " Bury Me"? That was the first time I heard her sing.

  • beatifull

  • this was a live version of this on a 45 back in 1987. awesome country pop. country pop music since the mid 1990s has been total scat. a great song like this doesn't get heard but some scag like reba mcintyre is popular?

  • well alriiight....i know this by heart

  • amazing love that voice

  • are you serious?

  • Maria McKee. That wonderful voice!

  • SOOO Beautiful! Maria is awesome!

  • My favorite unknown artist of all time@! Love your work Maria!

  • Great tune! I often wonder whatever happened to this band. I'm from the Boston area, and they played so many early gigs in an and around town, it's almost as if they were from there. They had the curse of the bands that open for U2.

  • Didn't the guy from Bruce Springsteen's band write this song? I think that's him in the video (wearing the cap and playing bass)

  • MY DAD the drummer in this vid!!!!

  • Buzzguy nailed it - still means so much to me when I listen to this song - late 80s was the best and the worst - she melts my heart "disolusion has an edge so sharp!_

  • Lone Justice's best song...and one of the best songs of its time.

  • Wow,I`m so happy to hear this wonderful woman and her music again<3! I`ve only heard Show me Heaven wich was a big hit yrs ago.......

  • I heard this first in the movie "Moonlight and Valentino" and this song so strongly defines the crux of this movie. I never get tired of hearing this!

  • kacres 1 is absolutely right. I still play "Shelter" and Til Tuesday's "Coming Up Close" religiously. Both defined a time and place in my life circa winter 1987. This and Til Tuesday's tune should have been bigger hits. Just gorgeous stuff.

  • Late 80s - early 90s - the ladies rule!! Maria McKee here and Aimee Mann with Til Tuesday = these ladies knew how to write a song!! beautiful women - beautiful songs!! If you like this song, check out "Coming Up Close" by Til Tuesday - both of these tunes are so moving!!

  • @kacres1 right there with you on those two tunes

  • BEST SONG EVER!!!!!!!

  • Maria McKee" Lone Justice-"Shelter"--------she has a great voice!! "Disillusion has an edge so sharp. It tears at your soul and leaves a stain upon your heart".

"Your struggle with darkness has left you blind".

  • a great song.........

  • Amazing Song... WOW factor! Love this song!! brings good memories :o)

    Thanks for posting this video.

  • This is the kind of song you hear and think, "WOW!" Thank you for posting

  • Saw Her in the early 80's and have been a huge Fan ever since....What a beautiful girl, with a Voice that stirs your soul! Thanks for the post.

  • The fire makes for a simple but very effective video.

  • Lone Justice, my goodness was it so long ago Maria McKee touched our hearts with a soulful passion unbridled.

I light the fire in your eyes. Your sorrow and darkness has left you blind.

    How prophetic indeed.

  • @geo386 why prophetic?>great sond/band

  • @lucykitty33 Just the soul and fire Maria McKee stirred whenever I hear thsi song makes me long for someone I know.

  • Hi,

I haven't listened to this for ages.

It's one of my favourite songs, but I simply couldn't remember the name of the group correctly (thought it was Long Justice), thus not being able to find it.

Thanks to a blog, I found this today.

    I'm happy :-)

  • Disillusion has an edge so sharp.

It tears at your soul and leaves a stain upon your heart.

    Beautiful!

  • Those are my favorite lyrics to this song as well. The next couple lines are awesome too.

  • @BolloDaBrute

    yes the lyrics great

  • I remember when this came out..Maria Mckee is hot
