God people are so ungreatful these days! If you want a tutorial that shows how to delete video parts, then youtube DELETE instead of CUT. Also for the idiots making a comment on his speech, maybe you should try speaking a language that isnt your mother tongue assholes.

I'm trying to cut a .avi video file, but when I try to open the video file by virtualDub the program says:

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DX50' (unkown). VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."

Anyone know what I did wrong and what I should do so I can open the video file in VirtualDub?

Can we save the movie in wmv format? avi format makes very big file.

save as DivX. It tends to be alot smaller than the normal AVI which is dvd format

AVI is just a container format. What really determines the size is the encoding algorithms used.

I personally find that Xvid Mpeg-4 at 1536-2048 kbps for video is really good for online video sites.

we only have 1 commercial break per half an hour in britain, there typically 3-4 mins long.... on BBC, the main channel over here there arnt any. Why, how long are yours and how oftern where u live?

in the united states, new york. the time on tv is about 1/3 commercials, 2/3 show. a simpsons episode is about 20 minute simpsons show and 10 minutes of commercials. The 10 minutes are separated in 3 breaks.

Good tutorial on appending segments but if the goal is removal of unwanted material, it is easier to select the start and end point of unwanted sections and simply delete those portions and then just save the edited file once.
