I noticed in your list of services that you provide a TENS unit. I have a TENS but it was prescribed by a medical doctor. My question is, how can you provide/apply something to a client, as you being a Doula, when Doulas are NOT licensed to write or prescribe any types of medicinal treatments such as a TENS unit. I've also heard of a couple of doulas (not you) using the Rebozo to reposition a baby they believe to be in the wrong position. Should Doulas be engaged in such activities?
This video is great! I am happy that you encouraged us to share it; I am a childbirth educator and doula and plan on showing this video in my classes.
I love your video! I am a doula who would love to use your video to explain to clients what I do and how I can help them! Is there anyway to purchase a copy on DVD? Thanks for your work!
WOW! Thank you so much for that video!!! I've been searching for a informative video on doulas to share with my clients and to the public that dont know what a doula is or what we do and I think I've found it! Thanks so much!! :D
Great information. I would love to see a video like this that addresses a more diverse client base...thinking single moms, teen moms, families of other ethnicities, lesbian families...I see a lot of videos geared to a primarily Caucasian heterosexual audience and I'm eager to see something more inclusive.
Thanks for the comment! The producers of the documentary contacted previous clients, local birth communities, and the general public. We are greatful to those that volunteered their time.
@njde67 I agree as well. Overall it is great to get all feedback. At the same time, I am a doula and the work I do is with teen moms, young at risk moms, many cultural backgrounds, single etc... We are working on gathering testimonials from these mothers but we will not be making any documentary but we will be gathering the info. you can see the orgnization i am with at helpinghandslovingheartsdoulas website
@ErinFisher I checked out the website...I love what you are doing over there. I'm in SF...mostly serving private clients and I take the occasional volunteer client through various programs and referrals. There are several volunteer Doula programs and some CHOW programs that do prenatal/postpartum support. Nothing like what your doing down south...I'm inspired!
@njde67 Thank you I just saw your reply :) I am excited as we are just starting our next group of Volunteer Doulas. I have had 7 through our program and in the past year we have served over 50 women. I love it!
@brawnylass I am so sorry I do not fully understand how this messaging on Youtube works. I just saw your reply. What do you mean and how? :) Thank you. PS. It may be easier to communicate with me if you are on facebook, like my page VENUS BIRTH and write me there. I check that daily. thank you!
Hi I am a doula, and I teach Childbirth Ed. I would love to show this to students as an overview to doulas. It is the most concise, informative video on the doula That I have seen.
What stands out for me is the statement near 5:00 about women's sense of satisfaction with labor and birth: that is isn't the level of pain they felt, but the sense of empowerment/agency and support, that predicted satisfaction.
Kudos to all childbirth professionals who truly support and empower women during their births!
Awesome! This video is very positive and informative. As a nurse and a doula, I know the value of both roles in the labor and delivery process. I appreciate the fact that there was no negativity or criticism of doctors, hospitals, etc. I look forward to sharing it with clients and others in the birth community.
Excellent video !! I wish I could have had that support when I had my child way back in 1983. There was so much I did not really know and looking back, I can see how wonderful a doula would have been. This video is very informative and well done.
Excellent video! I really liked that you showed how doulas can help SUPPORT mom's choice regardless of your own beliefs. Some videos portray hospitals to be bad, discouraged meds/epidurals/interventions, and you focused on what is important, allowing the mom to choose and educating her! At the hospital where I work, we are privileged to always have a 1:1 nurse/patient ratio during labor/delivery so we are able to provide much needed support. I applaud you for this honest documentary!!!!
Great job interviewing several significant participants in birth and splicing it all together to tell a great story about doulas and their practice. This is a very good educational video that also depicts emotion.
"what impacted their feelings about their birth was how powerful they felt... like they were supported...what they said mattered, those were the things that made their birth a positive or negative" I didn't do natural childbirth and felt isolated from the natural childbirth community, but this resonated with me so much. This video was educational, inspiring, and non- judgmental. It's a must see for all expecting mothers.
wow, amazing! I am so grateful to all who have made this happen! If this can change the look of birth for just one woman - than we have made a difference!
