@EMINEM9824 The wings sweep back in the classic delta formation for travel at supersonic speeds. This reduces drag and stress on the airframe. All supersonic aircraft have a swept wing design for this reason.
@EMINEM9824 Ever see a hawk or eagle fly? They Extend their wings for max lift & Circle in the sky on rising air curents. When they spot prey, they tuck the wings in & dive at max speeds. The swept wing does what birds do natually. Straight for low speed & high lift. Sweep back for hi speed. Best of both worlds.
B-1 is junk. They always come back emergencies, and the pilots are arrogant as hell cuz they think they're flying a fighter. As a controller, I hate these things; only love them when they leave my scope :D haha
@bellyflopman - They must have been Air Force maintained aircraft 'cause when we (Air National Guard) had them, they were maintained by people with many years experience and didn't have near the trouble with them as the Air Force.
@cyborg6886 you're air force bud, same as the reserve. its a fact that the bone, has had some issues, and alot of them were used as cann birds for each other.a plane is a plane bud
@outdoorsman767 - Funny that we didn't seem to have near the trouble that the Air Force did. There is a difference between the AIr National Guard and Regular Air Force. Let's start with the high turnover rate of the Air Force which equates to less experience than most guard members who make a life long career of working on various aircraft. But I do agree that the Bone did seem to have more than it's share of problems though. Still an awesome aircraft.
If anything its the sound of death. Beautiful but deadly. Don't get me wrong the Lancer is an awesome piece of art but you might just aswell go and print freedom on a nuke!
@SergeiSovietUnion1 Must be Russian history. The B-1 ha been around a lot longer than the 160. The other way around. Virtually every aircraft was in response to the US version. You've got a good sense of humor though, I'll say that...great Vodka .....piroges too... I will give top marks for the T34 and the AK47. as well.
When it goes into the Delta swept wing..ahhhhhhh. I just love the LOOK and the Sound! I used to see those every day in Oklahoma! Of course you grab your pictures on your walls when they fly by too.. :-) Good Times!
We have these come and go on the flight line at Davis-Monthan AFB. One flew over the dorms the other day and set off several car alarms. It's just so loud, and deep.
Too bad they can't break the sound barrier anymore. That used to be awesome, but the sonic booms would break windows. The old people complained about the noise around here and now we have no more airshow.
@tomcatpilot13 How do the engines look alike? You can't even see any of them in either plane, they are inside the engine housing... And no, they aren't the same...
I'm sorry, but if I were President this would have to be Air Force One. I prefer speed and utility more than glossy paint and comfort. Also, it has sexy curves like a model - I like this aircraft!
@playstationrox999 Actually I'm British. I just like the look of Russian aricraft. Su-47, SU-34, Mi-24 Super Hind, KA-52, and lets not forget the Antonov An-225
@105Raptor The engines are very large and so is the plane. Therefore the engines put out an enormous amount of power to keep the heavy plane in the air. That is my guess as to why the plane is so loud.
@Indogyearsimdead, if you were serious, my bad. i thought you were trying to make me look stupid or something. its that english person ive been arguing with lol
