  • I think this show "Golden Palace" wasn't given a chance. It's so sad that the show only aired one season. It was good that the Golden Girls had the spend-off. I enjoy watching Blanche, Rose and Sophia. And it would of been interesting if Dorothy would of just made specially appearance while the show aired.

  • I went to see a a tapeing of golden girls in 90 and golden palace in 92.

Rue was so nice during a costume change see came up to us and started talking to me and my friend..

we had great seats the first row in front of the kitchen.

  • Who is singing this song ?

  • missed Dorthy

  • I know what Cheech was puttin' in that stew...

  • I looked online and could not find it- anyone know who sang this version? I thought it may have been Andrew Gold, in an updated version, but probably not. Thanks in advance. :)

  • New "The Golden Palace" Coming Soon...!!!

    Other Different Starring...

  • This version of the song is the reason why this show failed so quickly.

  • i agree the golden palace was a piece of crap the golden girls were way better then this crappy spin off.

  • @GinA7887 You're right. Many people say movie spinoffs are not as good as the originals, neither are spinoffs for Sitcoms. They should have just left Golden Girls alone and not created this. Empty Nest was a great spinoff for Golden Girls. Golden Palace wasn't.

  • Why was this not popular?

  • The Golden Girls are better than Golden Palace.

  • I've watched every single golden girls episode, how the hell did I not know about this????????

  • Wow, War Machine looked good in the day!

  • This was such an 70s-80s-90s thing of trying to save a show that out lived it's time by making spin offs after a last episode that were hardly any good. All in the Family. Facts of Life tried to spin the show off at the end but never got picked up. Three's Company did so at the end. And here we have Golden Girls doing it without one of the stars returning. Spin offs are fine when done early in a shows run but to do so after a show is done is just a waste. Golden Palace just wasn't good.

  • Sorry but what was funny about three elderly women slogging away in a hotel as they'd no money?

  • In memory of Rue Mclanahan I just looked up her resume on imdb, and learning about this show just plum BLEW MY MIND.

  • Rest In Peace Rue and Estelle! :'(

  • Don Cheadle?!? Wow, you learn something new every day.

  • ='[

    Rue McClanahan

    1934-2010

  • Instead of "Billy L. Sullivan" they should have had Jennifer Aniston as the hotel's dumb, rich and naive daughter. She would be PERFECT! and Sophia and her will always fight/disagree!! :)

  • I like the golden girls intro better

  • They sould have asked Liz Taylor to do the show and it would have lasted at least 4 seasons.

  • The Golden PAlace on CBS!!!!!!!!!!! Was they drunk

  • this show BOMBED!!! i can understand why to i hated it, but i just love the golden girl's!!! one of the best show's ever to be on tv!!!

  • this is no golden girls they will never have another show as good as golden girls!!

  • I hate the theme song, they fucked it up bad! I love these ladies but not the show, not funny, only a little, but not as good as TGG. Dorothy makes everything better. The show depresses me.

  • God !! What were they thinking! It could never work without Bea. Her character was what made the show wonderful! Don't get me wrong I love all of the golden girls, but it just didn't have that spark.

  • they could at least have made a replacement character for dorothy like sophias niece who is just like her or something ..idk and the show would have lasted

  • In response to an earlier comment. a reunion would be impossible because sadly Bea Arthur and Estelle Getty have both passed away.

  • They should do a reunion of this show

  • "The Golden Palace" did decently on the ratings, not great, but decent. It was growing but not significantly. CBS had the show scheduled for a second season until the night before they announced their fall schedule, they opted to go with "The Nanny". The show in my opinion the show could have went for at least 4-5 seasons as a moderate, not much remembered, tv show. Such a Shame! To this day I CAN"T STAND CBS!!!

  • Two Half Men

  • thank God. i absoulutely love The Nanny and the original Golden Girls!!!!!

  • loves this theme song! instead of the kid they should have had Christine Baranksi the hotel owner's daughter!~!~!

  • haha Cheechs name was Chuy :P

anyways, sad to hear it didnt last long, but from what i've read i guess thats a gud thing. I love the Golden Girls, they will live on forever!

  • Whoa was that Cheech?

  • wow... don cheadle? but no Bea Arthur?

  • The first time I saw "Starring Betty White" on the screen, it felt a little weird knowing that Dorothy was no longer on the show, but at the same time I couldn't help but think, "Way to go, Betty!"

  • As Betty White said "The Golden Palace" was like trying to have a four legged table resting on three legs, says it all!

  • can be done just wasn't given enough time to do so and the writers were so blind to see that they had a chance to make a second spin off of the last episode of golden girls and calling it Our Golden Years

  • The Golden Girls was one of the best sitcoms ever but The Golden Palace was funny but....not like as funny nor had a good premise.

  • They should have called it More Golden Girls ,whats funny about three elderly women slogging their guts out in a hotel?

  • just from the theme song alone i knew this was goin no where... sorry but LOVE LOVE LOVE golden girls bea, betty, rue, and estelle are all heavenly angels

  • i remember when this came on and so wanted to like it, having been a huge fan of the golden girls but for whatever reason it didn't have the same zest the original did and was pretty uninspired.

  • It's Chuck Negron from Three Dog Night singing!!! Doesn't he sound great!?

  • Where is bea arthur?

  • I wish they would release it on DVD as they did the Golden Girls. I know it was not the best, but you could see the writing on the wall in Season 7 of the Golden Girls. I think they were hoping for a few more seasons, but the writers had already started running out of stories before Golden Palace came along.

  • What the funk did they do to this song?

  • its boring without dorthy

  • its not gonna be the same without dorthy

  • I used to like this show when I like little, mainly because I liked the golden girls and it was the same cast..I however don't remember Cheech and Don being in it.

  • Billy l. Sullivan was in a few episodes

  • wow cheech look's soo young in here he's old now.

  • This was pretty pathetic LOL, and I LOOOVE GOLDEN GIRLS.

  • It didn't work without Dorothy,I found it really sad the three remaining ladies were working their asses off in a hotel

  • estelle made sophia so convincing that at first i really thought she was that age...and that wasn't hair and makeup!

  • I remember when this first came out, it felt weird to see "Starring Betty White," but at the same time I couldn't help but thing, "Way to go, Betty!"

  • Much Better Theme Song than The Golden Girls!

    ~This is my opinion

  • this got low ratings and i hate this show but go golden girls

  • I've never seen this...but I watch the Golden girls every time its on! watching it right now as a matter of fact.

  • i think this spin-off would have been a whole lot better with bea arthur!!

  • But the Song is good!

  • hey its better than nothing at least we got one more year of betty estelle and rue

  • it still kicked ass,it was the best !!!

  • I would watch this spin-off any day compared to the pathetic last seasons of "Family Matters", and "Step By Step" that were aired on CBS - now THAT'S pathetic!

  • Those last seasons of Family Matters and Step by Step were just weird. Man CBS was really desperate for some attention back in the day.

  • Yeah, it kind of reminds me of when ABC decided to renew "Diff'rent Strokes" for another season instead of renewing "Three's A Crowd" for a second year - I would have rather seen "TAC" grow for another year, instead of a retread of a sitcom that should have been dead a couple years sooner! Mary Ann Mobley and a new set compared to Dixie Carter - PLEASE!

  • I would say they after 12 years they still are

  • i freakin agree with u so much lol

  • @ajw7033pie once dorothy left it all fell apart.

  • the way Roland jumps that desk - hoo-ha! gives me a hot flash everytime lol

  • @jw1701 don cheadle!!! lol!

  • I read somewhere this show actually almost got a second season...but for some reason, it didn't. I don't exactly remember why.

  • @DesertLynx83 It was renewed for a second season but canceled at the last minute when CBS wanted to run a different show and there wasn't room enough for both.

  • this show was kinda desperatly clinging on to golden girls which was super great but i think this show shouldnt really have come to be...

  • WOW That sounds like Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night. Cool.

  • It is Chuck.

  • righteo, bearron...that's the famous Chuck Negron.

  • they shouldve used the original theme song for the golden palace. i liked it better. but its very sad that the show stoped airing. i never got a chance to see any of the episodes. i was only 9 0r 10 i think. oh well, i guess i blame myself for that.

  • This version fit the mood of the show better in my opinion.

  • Hey Cheech, where's Chong?

  • on that 70s show

  • Sadly,this show didn't last very long.

  • i guess so, 'cause i totaly don't remember this

  • Who is the kid?

  • Oliver, Roland's foster child.

  • He was only on the first few shows - his character was later written out of the show.

  • not completely if i remember correctly

  • This was The Golden Girls, the same show. The title and location was just changed, it had the same characters, minus Dorothy, same theme song and producers.

  • That is how I think of the show as well.

  • I really loved this show...sometimes I loved it more than the Golden Girls.

  • I never knew this show happened. I knew about Golden Girls,... I wonder how I missed it!,... and I'm in fan clubs and everything!

  • I read that this show actually did get good ratings, but it still got canceled.

  • I know and I hate how they didn't give this show much more of a chance and the face they missed a perfect oppurtunity to make a 3rd spin off of Golden Girls with Dorothy and Lucas.

maybe having Wilford Brimley and some other actors play their neighbors in that spin off in that show too. I'm just making up that spin off for the fun of it and in case I can ever have access to the technology where I can generate a dead actor and add them into a project and set generators stuff like that

  • They couldn't make a Dorothy/Lucas spin off. Bea Arthur had had enough of playing Dorothy and wanted to move on. She also did virtually the same thing on Maude. Even though us fans want it to go on forever, a smart and talented person like Arthur knows when something is about to run its course, that it is best to leave on a high note, and that there is more excitement and fulfillment in something new, than in something played out for endless years.

  • I would have also wanted the spin off so I could also see leslie nealson I like about anything he's in

  • The most important secret to success is knowing when it is time to depart. I always felt that Bea left the original show while the audience wanted more. Never keep going on until the magic is gone. I love all the Golden Girls dearly, but I salute Bea with heartfelt sincerity because a lady always knows when it is time to leave.

  • Amen.

  • it really was, it had all the wit and brilliance about it that the golden girls had previously, just wasnt as good away from the house and without dorothy...

trust me, i have seen all the golden palace episodes

  • i cant believe i didnt know about this show!

i love Golden Girls!now i gotta watch this one!

  • WHAT!!! when did this happen!!

  • Loved The Golden Girls, this was a turkey though!

  • wasnt as good as the golden girls...

    wasnt 'turkey' though

  • Definitely was a turkey. Golden Girls was and is a treasure, though.

  • it wasnt, beat the standard of many or most sitcoms nowadays...

i have seen it, many times... it was amazing, not as good as golden girls

  • Where is Dorothy!?!?!

  • she was not in the show exept for like 1 ep i think

  • 2 i think

  • when they invited her to come visit and dorthy wanted sophia to live with her and her husband. I think it was 2 parts. Thats the only time i think she was in this one.

  • ok if your gonna be a golden girls fan watch the god damn last episode of the series

  • Did I see Cheech? What the hell?!!!

    AWESOME!

  • it will never amount up to gg but its still really good

  • not the same with bea....hopefully they'll run it again or release it to dvd

  • Was a bad idea,adding a little kid yuk!

They should have had the three remaining girls stay at the house, still least we got Bea Arthur as a guest star in 2 episodes, wasn't a patch on the GG.

  • bea's contact only had her 7 seasons sadly the 2 times she show on the show was by her own free will

she's very very old now and frail and is farely well but her acting days on flim are number she does vocies for carttons like Futurama as the robot god to the planet of big woman who kill the men boy sex lol

but shes will and the others are about the same Rose was on my wife and kids and you can see shes pretty old too and sophia and blanche are the same

  • Sometimes I wondered about that, too. They could have done something like have Blanche's daughter Rebecca move in, along with her young daughter, and explore some of the generation gap issues.

  • Will they ever air this on lifetime again?

  • usually spinoffs only include some or one of the cast members. I don't get why they needed to do this as a spinoff.

    different writers I suppose?

  • I loved both of these shows but I hated what they did to Miles and Rose I was so upset when they pulled that stunt but thanks for posting this up I love the golden girls and golden palace...

  • what stunt??

  • yeah i didnt see golden palce wut happend with miles and rose

  • Miles married someone else. I really hated that because I loved Rose and Miles.

  • I had no idea of this show's existence! As a Forever GGs Fan I'm jaw dropped!Did it run for a long time?I'm only discovering it now.

  • It only lasted a season.

  • Yea it didn't last long. Remember the episode when Dorothy married Blanche's uncle who was played by Leslie Nelson? Well that was her last episode and then this spin off came out. Bea Arthur left the show cuz she thought GG had a good enough run. This show was nothing like GG and was actually kinda boring. I didn't know it existed til like 5 years ago either.

  • Yes, the fact of the maater is, the show was NOT boring, it certainly didn't match up to the golden girls, but was on the whole, a good TV show, better than the shit they have on today. Bea Arthur actually realised this at the time, and she actually starred in two episodes!

  • its like loosing one of the spice girls i was so upset when Dorothy left the golden girls the palace is not the same xx

  • I think Golden Palace is a nice addition of the Golden Girls. I like it. :)

  • I am such a huge fan of the Golden Girls. These spin off shows are so over done and played out its almost disrespectful to the original shows.

  • To be honest, the golden palace, I believe, is an exception. It still has that same edge and magic that the golden girls thrived in. Sadly without the appearence of Bea Arthur, it somehow doesn't compare, but on the whole, a golden girls creation can only be a good thing. Albeit, I admit, it did lose some of its wit, and the special bond the characters had.

  • Nothing could ever replace the golden girls. I am currently watching it.

  • If the show stayed at Blanche'shome and they introduced a new room mate, like Valerie Harper, the show may have lasted a few more years.

  • I would lliked to have seen that. In an earlier episode when Dorothy was marrying Stan, Debbie Reynolds was supposed to be the new roomate, but Dorothy pulled out of the wedding so she moved back in. I think Debbie would have been a nice addition.

  • I am yet to see The Golden Palace =[

    However Golden Girls rocks!!! =D

  • I saw Golden Palace, they PLayed it on lifetime for a Minute a couple years ago, It was something else to me, I was trippin When Miles got married to another woman in the same hotel rosed owned.

  • I love the golden girls! I've never seen the golden palace though...I can't imagine the show without Dorothy. It has to be the 4 of them. They make such a great team!!

  • I saw this for the first time in 2005 and laughed my butt off when I saw Don on it. He was funny and a wonderful actor (with a certain southern episode) Great to see where great actors start out

  • I must say the GGs were awesome but I would like to see the GP as well. I got to see it in Lifetime but not all episodes...anyone knows if it is coming on DVDs?

  • yes, I don't think that your idea of "Tequila and New York and some other ho's like that" forming a golden girls type show is such a good idea?!?

  • Reasons why any show fails like this....cast changes....moving to a new network...and changing the senerio...should have stayed the golden girls with an occasional dorothy appearance now and then...this was too campy

    :(

  • True the intro is bad, it could have used more music instead of mostly vocals. It's pretty hard to top of the GG intro. They should have just used the original GG intro but a little altered.

  • I wonder why NBC didn't take Golden Palace, but I guess CBS was desperate for comedy, certainly if it was a spinoff of a highly rated comedy.

  • Betty White said that The Golden Palace was like taking a leg off a table and trying to eat dinner from it. It just didn't work.

  • Thank you for being a friend.

  • this show is ok. but the golden girls was a lot better. i do think if it got a second season it might have improved. it was just weird without Bea as a star. she had all the smart jokes. and it really isnt great with all the other actors. they took too much away from the girls.

  • Whoa! Don Cheadle? and Cheech Marin? No way!

  • yeah that Don Cheadle (Basher Tarr from the Oceans Trilogy ) hard to believe he appeared on a Golden Girls spin off and same with Cheech Marin!!

  • bea arthur din't appeared in this in intro, why?

  • bea arthur had left the golden girls which resulted in this!

  • Bea actually guest-starred in one episode during sweeps week.

  • yeh, but she only guest starred, she was not part of the shows cast! plus I think everyone who knows the golden girls knows that, backed up with the clip on youtube in which dorothy is visiting the girls on the golden palace!

  • sucks that it was cancelled after one season, since rue wrote in her biography that most golden girls fans didn't even know this show existed until the lifetime reruns years on. this intro is terrible though, compared to the gg one.

  • This show deserved a second season; I bet it would have improved.

  • I (ove the golden palace!!! Not forgetting Golden Girls as well!! Bea Arthur is my hero

  • This version of the theme lacked the feeling of the original...the show wasn't the same without Bea Arthur...I never got into it
