@girlcalledaish moore doesn't support socialism, he just thinks capitalism, the way we have it now, is very different from what its creator, Adam Smith, thought. Now it's sort of like socialism 4 the rich, and that's just plain fucked up.
I like Michael Moore he's one of the few people who actually provide total concrete evidence and justifies his theories, instead of wasting time in yelling poetic words like "oligarchy" and "freedom" without knowing what they mean... he's actually smart...
there he says it all , does he not ? 3:20 ... the US banks , not only in the US but ... ALL the banks , came running to the governments and ask for LOWNS !
Solidarity was ... all for a sudden ... at THERE mind ( the banks minds ) !
is it just me, or is moore plagued by double standards? he first complains about the wealthy, but then he justifies his own wealth by being a good filmmaker. are all others who are wealthy not capable of being good at what they do? then he complains that there is no democracy in business. i cant help wonder how he would react if everyone else told him how to make his films and what they should contain.
@globalnomad62 I don't get these kinds of arguments. What should Michael Moore do? Take the money and keep his mouth shut? Turn a blind eye to the misfortunes of other people and say 'screw them, I've got my money'? Would that be more acceptable than what he is doing? Let's be sensible here. Michael Moore made a film on how modern capitalism is broken. The facts of the film stand on their own merit. They don't depend on whether Michael Moore is fat or whether he is wealthy.
They are Two ways to Conquer and Enslave a Nation, One by the Sword The other is by Debt, None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free, If there were no Debts in our Money System there wouldnt be any Money There is not a government on earth today that satisfies any reasonable proportion of the world. Many of the nations are ruled by dictators The whole world is practically bankrupt.
Saluting Dr. Kings vision more now than ever - If he were alive today he would be more sad over the injustice from the latest inhumane wars, state of the economy and declining conditions for people of color that are enduring greater poverty and incarceration.
Jews trying to lead a country towards communism... hmmm where did I see this before? Will the Mexicans play the victim role as the Ukranians (Holodomor) and Christians did? Poor American people. They are in for a long ride. Too bad Hitler is not with us to save us from this evolving gang. Jews own the money. They purposely created this situation. They will start with a socialized health program. The end of capitalism = the beginning of socialism/communism. Ever heard of the word: judeocommunism?
Moore is rich. And so what? Why would he give his money that he earned so rightfully? Some idiots say he should give his money. Why? To get poor? To be unheard? To help just a handful of people? To be unknown? What for? Will that change our evil, stupid system? No. He fights for you imbeciles! And with the only means the society gives: money and influence. He fights for those that can't afford a doctor, to avoid to be robbed by banks, or keep ignorant of what's really going on.

if moore is so disgusted with the fact that the top one percent of americans (which he is a part of) have more wealth than the bottom ninety-five percent combined, and since capitalism is CLEARLY the problem, why doesn't he give his money away to that bottom ninety-five percent, like the good old socialist way says you should?
You're missing his point. He's not envious. It's not the wealth - it's the fact that the wealth is making the votes and making the decisions on how the economy works.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Michael Moore doesn't understand Capitalism, it's painfully obvious if you listen to anything he says.
The bailouts, stimuli, and the other government intervention into the marketplace is not a product of Capitalism. In fact, it's the antithesis to free markets.
Michael Moore isn't worth listening to unless he is having a debate with someone that actually understands the free market system from the Austrian school of economics. When that happens, he shows his worth.
Alot of what he's saying about "capitalism" is right, but its not actually about capitalism. That shit is NOT capitalism, its corruption, corporate socialism and cronyism.
so true - he should have called it 'corruption' & shown those in wall street & in the Gov who made this crisis come about - his focus is wrong and in a way bizarre
omri, it is not incorrect to suggest that the BOGUS propping up of the "Capitalism" business model is at fault. The form of "capitalism" that you are attempting to defend is one that receives BILLIONS in "bailouts" every year through subsidized funding. Too many Americans have been brought up in the "us vs them" world magnified during the Cold War with the "socialism vs. capitalism" ruse that they're too afraid to look at the FAILURE of some of our philosophies. A NEW BUSINESS MODEL is needed.
capitalism - no other system on earth has wiped out so much poverty, raised living standards so stratospherically high & left 100 millions of people NEVER knowing what its really like to be hungry or not a have a home
yes people on wall street were living in
la-la land - so make so they suffer and cant do it again
capitalism is a good system that has some bad things wrong with it (which can be fixed)
socialism is a bad system which has a few good promises that never arrive
I completely disagree. There are examples of socialism that are equally as disastrous as capitalism- yes. While agree that 'capitalism' has brought many out of poverty- that doesn't mean its better than socialism. Look at Sweden or Denmark (which is in the world's top three competitive economy). They enjoy far, far higher living standards than the average American. You can have a market economy in a socialist framework- many countries have successfully done so.
idiots always think it is capitalism which has brought them out of poverty not realizing it all started with coal, then oil and natural gas that brought them practically everything they own, and as that is running out, your stupid paper model of capitalism is also fading.
some of the poorest countries in Africa full of coal and oil and gas - and poverty - as was the USSR which collapsed because a socialized economy DOES NOT WORK - as for those saying Denmark and Sweden are socialist countries - I've lived in Denmark - and yes they do have some socialist social policies - but their economies are as capitalist as the UKs or USAs - plus they both are constutional monarchies - which is not socialist at all
currently there is not a government is the world that is not capitalist. socialism and so called "capitalism" and fascism and communism of today are all capitalist by the most basic mathematical definition. they only differ in their varying degrees of exploitation of the populous. american "capitalism" has worked so far because you have exploited poorer countries by use of your currency as the world reserve currency, it is the continual pressure to pay loans back that has created the wealth
Those poor African countries don't own any of that coal oil and gas. They are poor because America and other European countries have privatized those resources and are exploiting them. Any ways, dakusahab is right. once we run out of resources we are going to be screwed. Also, the US isn't a capitalist country, and hasn't been since the industrial revolution when the government HAD to step in to regulate the gross injustices that the capitalists were committing against the proletariat.
'the World Bank estimates that about US$40 billion is stolen from Africa by corrupt leaders every year and is stashed in foreign bank accounts.
It is estimated that about 25 percent of the gross national product of most African countries is lost this way'
Africa has its assets stolen alright - but by its own rulers - not the West ...plus not all African countries were colonized - many - like Liberia & Ethiopia never were - & are just as poor as their neighbours
When a pick pocket meets a holy man, he sees only his pockets.
All people on this earth do not see it as a resource to be squandered and then exploited.
For them, needs are more fundemental, so, they unwittingly become subject to those forces. We need to understand these, not as inferior, but much as the American Indian was when this continent was "Discovered".
He is the only wealthy person who gets it. You are part of the problem why we live in a dictatorship, where the wealth have all the power. But we call it capitalism. When its not. If it was a democracy, there, weed would be legal, we would have health care for everybody, and the top one percent wouldn't have more than the bottom 95%. This is the most bullshit system we have it place. Made so the rich can get richer, and the poor have no choice but to be screwed over and over again. You FOOL!
Moore is a hypocrite, without our system, he wouldn't be a multi-millionaire, you can argue with that. if he was genuine, he would donate 75% of his profits to charity
For Pete's sake, he has addressed the irony in the fact that he is advocating higher taxes on himself, since he is part of that top 1%. Just because somebody is wealthy doesn't mean they can't advocate social responsibility and a more moral economic model. He has explicitly said that if his film has the effect he desires then he will be out of business. He is fine with that because he is a patriot, not a selfish, greedy, unscrupulous asshole. But unfortunately some people just don't get it.
He has actually done a lot for charity in his home to Flint... Besides, you don't have to be in an American style economy to see movies- during Sweden's long and prosperous era with the socialist party (which ended as of two years ago)- people went to movies. People in the USSR saw movies- You don't need this form of capitalism to be rich. Thats besides his point- he's not speaking for himself- he's speaking for 95% of Americans who are getting bent over by this outdated and corrupt system.
You still don't get it, Michael Moore admits his mistakes, and uses his money to spread all the facts about how the people in the U.S. have been fooled and ripped off, especially in the last 10 years, and you are part of the problem because you keep supporting this so called capitalism when infact its not, the only people with the power are the ones with money. Where is the democracy in that!?
@oeufgwoieu He really is. Talented director and he does present points in America very very well. I do hope Mr. Moore will make more documentaries because the ones he has given us are so amazing films about American life. Do you have a favorite? Mine is Sicko.
