  • wow this is amazing! great job :) this is probably the best vce video i've seen, this is some great stuff, how long did it take you to shoot everything?

  • @saahfunny hey thanks man - we had the mid year holidays, two weeks to shoot, but i remember doing everything in a couple of days really, spread out in several hour blocks over the break.

  • what school were you at ?

  • @haynesy14 padua college in mornington. why do you ask?

  • oh beacuse i go to padua mornington and i swore i saw this at arts night a couple of years ago haha its really amazing great job :)

  • @haynesy14 oh wow! thanks man! tiny world! good memory!

  • i love this movie. i'm in year 11 at the moment doing media as my 3/4 and i've been looking at your folio in the top designs brochures we're given- its amazing! and so is your final product. also, i am in need of getting rights to a song too- how do u find out the publishing company?

  • @MademoiselleSherieXo heya! aw, thanks so much! cant believe people are still looking at this and sending questions! i had a look at angus and julia stone's website - but also found the publishers in the leaflet that comes with the ep this song appeared on i think. ages ago now, i can hardly remember! what song are you looking to use?

  • @lauraowsianka I want to use this version of the song 'Complainte de la Butte' (rufus wainwright) that I found on youtube. but i dont know what CD it came from so I don't think I'll be able to use it :( also how did you structure your letter that you sent to the publisher?

  • How were you able to get permission to use this song? I'm doing media this year with DECV. Just curious how you got copyright permissions :D

  • @AeroplaneGeli25 it took them ages to get back to me, but i emailed their publishing company which at the time was sony. i didnt hear back from emails so then i made phonecalls, and then my media teacher did too. be persistent!

  • i swear there was a reference to this in metal gear awesome 2

  • @Timic83amv ???

  • i really love this, better than the actual music video in all honesty (Y)

  • Of all the Year 12 films I've seen in the last couple years, this one I love the most :)

Hopefully mine gets into topscreen this year haha :P

  • @doofyyy27 hey thanks man! i had a watch, well done for finishing it! can't say i followed it entirely, but i'm sure if i saw your folio i'd get it better. congratulations on finishing year twelve media!

  • very nice.

  • It really is amazing!

    just a quick queston,

you obivously used a camera to take photos, not a video camera?

Did you use a professional camera like SRL, or nikon or whatever

OR just a normal camera? cause the shots really are awesome!

we're still in the story boarding stage

pretty sure we watched this one 2-3 times, everyone kept asking for it haha

  • a beaut of a song...love it

  • Well done this is awesome! Since I saw it at top screen last year I can't get it out of my head every time I listen to the song and now I've finally been able to find it to watch again. This is as good or better than the original music video used for the song. Love your work!

  • oh wow! thankyou so much! :)

have you been to top screen this year? what'd you think?

  • Hi Laura,

Thanks for the advice.... I very Much appreciate it.

How did you shoot the shifting clouds in the horizon and the changing weather/time thingo?... :)

  • haha oh no worries, hope it helps!

as for the weather and the changing sky - i shot that for about an hour from 6 or 7am in july, timed it just as the sun was coming up. took a photo every two minutes pretty much. does that make sense?

  • yeah thanks heaps I've always wondered how 'they' do it lol :L once again thankyou

  • Thanks for the advise Laura...I very much appreciate it!! :)

  • i was shown this movie by my media teacher earlier this year, and loved it :)

    it looks great

im planning on doing a stop motion video myself

  • hi! wow i'm glad you like it! what school are you at?

thats so nice that your teacher showed it to your class!

    stoked :)

be sure to post me a link of yours when you're finished!

  • Hey Laura,

Love it!!! Fantastic job. Do you have any general tips for planning & filming?...thanks =)

  • I guess just have a clear idea in your head of how you want things to look.

Also film (or in this case, photograph) as much as possible and more; make sure you have heaps to work with.

I recommend printing out calendar months and making a schedule for yourself, setting little goals and being really organised helps heaps.

And don't forget to collaborate and get help from people around you!

every member of my family helped out or appears in this in some small way.

    :) hope they're useful!

  • Freaking amazing :)

    that is soooo good.

I would <3 to make something like this.

How many frames were there all together in this??

  • thanks! close to four thousand including the ones that are repeating (but in reverse)

  • wow! how long did it take you?

i do studio and this is pretty inspriring!

  • it took a few months including planning, production and post, i cant remember exactly but its the time you're given to work on your folio pretty much. i did studio too, and i remember them being due within a week of each other.

  • congrats :)

    the end result is beautiful.

  • this is soooooooooo good!

    well done

  • Hi There!

I saw your film earlier this year at Top Screen.

Your film was a complete stand out and definatley an inspiration for my film in media next year.

    just one question..

how did you go about gaining permission to use the song?

  • hi!

    wow, thanks so much!

i'm really glad i could inspire somebody, that's fantastic, be sure to send me a link to yours when you're done at the end of the year!

as for permission, i was going to just use it and not enter it into any of the top arts thing and not worry, but i did some research and got in touch with a (somewhat difficult) lady by the name of wendy richardson from sony bmg got a copyright agreement for a fee...

  • ...that was so large that i was going to give up on permission altogether. but in the end my lovely media teacher and the school wanted the film in top screen so they paid for it.

i recommend you start seeking permission for the song you want as soon as possible though, and have a backup in mind, because it takes for freaking EVER to hear back from publishing companies. Ms Richardson didnt get back to me for more than a term, after several voicemail and emails. be persistent though!

  • @lauraowsianka

first of all, great song, great music video. really well done.

second of all, i was thinking of doing a music video for my short film and i was wondering how much the fee was to gain the rights for the song? because i don't think my school would help me out if the fee is an exorbitant amount.

  • thanks :)

well they wanted to charge me $40 just to legally use the song in the classroom and at my school.

to enter into competitions cost about $300..

but i would say that would vary depending on the song you choose, the artist, and whatever company they're with.

also look into APRA and getting rights through them. google that shit.

  • that is just awesome.

  • Wow! This is awesome. Nice work :)

I'm making mine at the moment. Eek!

Was that Frankston beach shot from atop Oliver's Hill I spied there??

  • Oh wow eagle eyes, it is indeed atop Oliver's Hill!

Good luck with yours, are you doing a music video too?

  • No, I decided to go with a really complex narrative film, which is going to be really difficult.

But I'm using stopmotion credits too!

I saw your design plan of the ATOM website. The final product is really great :) Hope you're still making films.

  • hi, i saw this at top designs at Melbourne museum, i thought it was possibly one of the most amazing film clips iv ever seen professional or other...I think it is really good and you have some realy GREAT talent.
