Question; How fast can you draw your weapon, eject the empty clip and load the full clip so that you are ready to defend yourself? Just wondering, because an unloaded gun is practically worthless except for intimidation purposes. It is insane to allow open carry but require that the weapon be unloaded. Walking down the street displaying a gun is like wearing a "kick me" sign. Cops harassing you is actually the least serious of potential issues that will arise.

Yeah, I totally see your point, but the issue here is that the cops shouldn't be stopping everyone that has a gun on them. The cops have guns on them, should we the citizens stop every cop we see and ask to check it? Again, I understand being polite as I always am with law enforcement. @bigdog7013 the officer pointed out that he had several mags on his belt those are loaded and you keep an empty one in it for saftey and to keep dirt out in the event that the weapon is needed the magazine is dropped and a live one is put in its place
Police Officers here in Livermore, at least the ones I've dealt with, are very nice and professional. However, I have noticed on numerous occasions that they call out a lot of units for almost no good reason. Such as 6 units for a possible, hint "possible" domestic disturbance. To me, that seems a little bit much. In this case, 2 units would have been enough.
I will say one thing... if you actually needed your gun (and yes i understand Cal Code) why would you carry a gun with an empty mag? Thusly causing you in the event of an ACTUALLY need for you gun to have to drop a mag just to load a mag. If i was in CA, i would Def leave my magwell empty and ready to receive at all times :)
Though the cops did not act disrespectfully, this was completely unnecessary, especially the assisting officer which had his gun out of the holster and ready to use, especially if this man was only standing at a street corner. Very unwise to open carry. Loaded or unloaded, you don't want people to think you could be a cop. as many people hate cops and therefore, it's highly likely you will get shot in the back of the head some day.
Also, just like you wouldn't advise a person to walk around with expensive jewelry and $39,000.00 fashion purse, unwise to carry a $1500 gun in view of thieves.
Tactically, you want to carry concealed, in condition 1 and practice till able to have weapon on target within <1 sec.

@chromakey84 Foolish advice as any police academy recruit will tell you to NEVER present any clothing or other items that may make people think you are a cop. Walking down the street displaying a gun is like wearing a "kick me" sign. Cops harassing you is actually the least serious of potential issues that will arise.
Even if it means violating lame CA "law" (Marbury vs Madison) carry concealed and you will be fine and most important, tactically prudent.

Yeah, I totally see your point, but the issue here is that the cops shouldn't be stopping everyone that has a gun on them. The cops have guns on them, should we the citizens stop every cop we see and ask to check it? Again, I understand being polite as I always am with law enforcement. But they have no business inspecting our firearms, we have a right to bear arms (as well as arm bears), one of the only things specifically stated in the constitution.

@SuPrAmAd101 It is our RIGHT, here in utah it can have a legal load, which is two actions out I carry mine every now and then . the states that this man is in yes is completely unloaded but he does have a loaded one with him as well,which certainly gives him a disadvantage if he were to need it. With A CCW permit you may have a fully loaded pistol. This is one of our RIGHTS under the 2nd amendment of the constitution.

The fact that four patrol cars showed up is clear it was not a random concern by these law officers and then drawing their weapons also states this, plus the tone and words of the officer was kind of smart assed as he stated he had a camera on like that meant something over the camera of the subject in this video, this makes it clear he was observed and an the officer had an emotional reaction that----->

At that point you need to have your Lawyer contact the city so they can inform local law enforcement that you will be carrying and not to harass you anymore and tell the city you can furnish them with a plaque to hang in all departments with your picture on it so they won't be confused in the future and to inform them that you will not be fond of future off duty stalking by emotional officers or anyone they know with ill intent against you!!

@bigdog7013 the officer pointed out that he had several mags on his belt those are loaded and you keep an empty one in it for saftey and to keep dirt out in the event that the weapon is needed the magazine is dropped and a live one is put in its place

Police Officers here in Livermore, at least the ones I've dealt with, are very nice and professional. However, I have noticed on numerous occasions that they call out a lot of units for almost no good reason. Such as 6 units for a possible, hint "possible" domestic disturbance. To me, that seems a little bit much. In this case, 2 units would have been enough.

Thusly causing you in the event of an ACTUALLY need for you gun to have to drop a mag just to load a mag. If i was in CA, i would Def leave my magwell empty and ready to receive at all times :)

Open carry of an unloaded gun seems like an invitation to the perp with the LOADED gun to help himself to yours. Once the law is tested, let it go. Leave it home or get a permit and carry concealed. No need to put everybody at risk.

The Texas law allows for a firearm to be carried, provided that the chamber has no round and the weapon is secured.
A holster with a "Thumb break" and 2 points of attachment and the hammer secured by a strap is legal.
A 6 round revolver with 5 rounds, or an automatic with no round in the chamber, and the proper holster, is legal.
And, of course, there is always conceal carry.
