you should be able to do 50m underwater, probably even more, then on the surface. even i can do like 37m (and 25 yards "freestyle" _with_ breathing:) )
in a 50. after that lactate builds up like crazy, so even in a 100 meter event, especially as a swimmer builds muscle mass (which requires more oxygen) it is beneficial to breathe every two (every cycle). just watch a 100 meter freestyle final at a world level for proof of this.
no sound made me think im not breathing either lol..... just 5m under water lol... i no good ...but wont that lower your performance under water and makes tired quicker?????
those times are really good for a 14 yr old (freshman).
but honestly if you're that fast you wouldn't be on youtube bragging about it. everybody I know that is that fast is a nice person who doesn't brag about their speed (and I know people faster than your times, which is not that surprising if you're in a yr round swim team lol)
no, sorry, ur ok. not like JO or AA material but you arent bad. i go a 23.3 in my 50 free yds and a 53.9 in my 100 free yds. (i die the third length) but ya, im 14 as well, ur not bad, just not too great.
freak ;) nah, joke...respect...but do u have a "dry-life" besides swimming? xD i mean...im 15 and i just reached 59,58 secs on 100 free and 26,72 secs on 50 free... ur times are a little bit...wow! :D
ya, i hhave a life, but its skool. i go to an asian skool, (im not asian myself, im russian) but its very tough there and thats basically my boring life, youtube, skool and swim.
I have done a 75 meter no-breather. It is all mental (even though I almost blacked out). I made a set of 8 50's 6 free 2 underwater breaststroke no breathers on 1:15. I am not a national level swimmer; I go 27.03 in 50Y short course free.
I see some comments from active swimmers here saying they cant make a 50 free without breathing are you serious? I can easaly do a couple of these in a row with short breaks and im not good at a national level or anything.
my best ever that I only ever did once at a race was 2 breathes, I still can't do it again it's just so hard, but 3 is my average too but not at practice.
by not breathing you don't have to breath to the side breaking aerodynamics therefore slowing you down so if you don't breath you don't lose your streamline and aerodynamics so you go faster
'aerodynamics'?! you're in water, not flying!! haha, but i know what you mean. Thing is, breathing shouldn't break your balance or profile in the water anyways. i agree with 'goswim98' about trying to increase muscle efficiency.... far more important
There are many goals to limiting breath while swimming. One would be to increase lung capacity by focusing on taking in MORE air prior to leaving the wall and then hanging onto it for an extended period. Another is to eventually get your body to use oxygen more efficiently. By limiting the amount of oxygen your muscles have access to, they'll eventually learn to work better with what they have... like training at altitude.
Of course it's edited... to illustrate the turn, and the increased tempo. What that means is that we did multiple 50's without a breath. Which is a typical set. I wanted to show that a good way to accomplish these is to start slowly, make sure you don't blow out your air during the turn, and will more than likely increase the turnover toward the end (instinct). It's not that tough, once you get the hang of it. It's just a way to control your effort level.
That's some great swimming for 12... keep it up. The OT cuts are in LCM, and are somewhere around 1:04.7 and 2:20.9. Shouldn't be too long for you. Keep working.
yeah, you don't have to not breathe to go faster. doing a 50 free without breathing (at practice) is fun when you can do it and no one else on your team has the lung capacity or the guts to do it. i've done it before.
not breathing keeps u more streamlined....so less drag, therefore u dont need as much energy to move. however it doesnt shave like 5 seconds..it takes off less than a second...i know cuz i broke a record doing it
Damn... I got a swimming copetition this friday. So should I breathe or should I not. I did 1 breath in 3-5 strokes for freestyle and frogstyle before, I guess I need more practice now... :(
woah calm down yall take swimmin to serioulsy ive been swimmin since i could walk but u dont see me settin of on ppl like that... how do u no that she is pretending u dnt no so who cares about how u breathe just as long as u win/get a better time than b4
he does that cuz he can.......his 200 fly time is like 1:52...and he breathes every stroke...hes in that good of shape and hes that talented...unless u can swim faster than him...dont say anything..u stupid idiot
For those not breathing - why? The only reason I can think of is maybe to simulate a race situation. The hypoxia effect was proven to be non-existent. And the real question is when you breath less are you improving your technique or just hiding a mistake such as breathing too high?
I breathe once in a 50,I find that i go much faster when I don't breathe at all there is this feeling that i get when i don't breathe in a 50,and its accompanied by an insurmounstable amount of energy lol.

"hut ab"... but that's really just for really young ones or people with a max lung capacity. For the rest, with damaged lungs (genetically or otherwise) it's an impossible thing to do...
if you can do it without any breath it will be better , because when you take a breath your speed minimizes 30 % lower than the speed you were up to and then you start again to go up with your speed , but while you are taking no breathes you only faster your speed , and thats if you can do it , but thats not mean to die to do it , if your lung is not big enought to do it , so better make it with 2 breathes ,, 1 at the 25 meters and the other befor finish
look ,, its a ratio ,, but me my self i take only one breath at the last 12.5 meters ,, and you should try a several 50's with a diffrent breath systems and see what is your most efficiant one .
no i don't think so , you'd be too exhausted at the end of your 50 , with 2 breathes it's good... you train your lungs.. But there's no need to try to breath only twice in a race
are these lengths one off? or are they done continuously?
kitt998 11 months ago
@kitt998 The filming was done during multiple 50's... but the goal of the athlete is to complete the entire 50 without breathing.

@cowswirl in order to cause damage to the brain, you would have to hold your breath until you passed out.

Kinda hard to show an entire 50 unedited. Don't worry, we can make it the entire way, but yes, it was edited to show the different stages of a 50.
