@waterskating Not really... in its original setting, in the musical "Babes in Arms", it's sung by a woman to her friend Valentine LaMar and yes, she does poke fun at him for not being very good-looking or impressive, but the song's actually about how she loves that he makes her smile and that she wouldn't want him to change. But yes, as a song, it's one long back-handed compliment.

This is such a strange atmospheric song. I can't imagine a better singer for it, or for that matter a better performance. It doesn' t seem possible to improve on it.

Billy Holliday could do a nice version, but this is one of those performances that take you outside of your every day perception of things, to some indescribable place.
