Yeah I didn't even know their 1970 song from the album "close to you" was originally a Gospel song :) and if karen had lived it was rumored they were going to do probably a Choir album †

@GodsPrincess4Ever "Close to You" was always a pop song, not gospel, written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. However, "Love is Surrender" was originally a contemporary Christian song. I've never heard the "choir album" rumor, so I sort of doubt it, but the Carpenters' first album had a strong choral influence with "Invocation" and "Benediction."

People always insulted The Carpenters that they were "Squeeky clean" and their music was just "beautiful" the words to most of their songs were so sweet and tender. I figure we have enough garbage to listen to and watch why not something beautiful and true? The way God made love to be? And God speaks to us through song as He does with this song. This is a wonderful and uplifting video. Don't let the naysayers get you down. This is beautiful. The Carpenters did do a gospel song. It was called Love Is Surrender. I remember flipping dials on the radio once back then & catching it on a religious station. That's another good song too.

I've been looking for this song for a long time...I loved and I like the Carpenters soooo much I remember my Mom use to sing all the Carpenters songs since I was 5 or 6 years old in the Philippines and I still remember all the songs and now my kids hears me singing the Carpenters songs in my magic mic karaoke at home...I'm sure when they grow up they will remember some of the songs like how I remember it through my Mom while I was growing up. No one is trying to make Carpenters a Christian group. This song has always been one of my favorites and an overlooked fabulous peformance that should be on their Greatest Hits compilation. I've thought of doing something similar to this for years and think its great! If you don't like the slides combined with the music, don't watch it. This could very well be what you would consider a contemporary Christian song. Thank you worship999 for putting this together. I know Karen would like it. xoxo

How do you know she wasn't religious? Just because someone doesn't regularly attend church doesn't mean they aren't spiritual. How do you know what was in her heart? You shouldn't EVER speculate about someone's relationship with God. That's between them and God, not you and them and God. I've read articles about their thoughts on religion. Have you ever heard their radio interview from early on in their career? They both believed, but didn't care much for organized religion.

Some of the Christmas songs sung by the Carpenters were not the common run of secular songs, but were songs with a Christian message, including some I'm sure a lot of people have never heard of, such as "Christ Is Born" and "Little Jesus".
