I remember watching this movie during my lunch period and assemblies (1987-91) at PS 18 in Queens NY. Watching this brought back CRAZY memories. Gotta say it spooked me a bit watching this movie at the age of 7-9. Thanks for the upload.
Thank you so much....I was telling my husband about this movie a few weeks ago. We were at Rasputins buying come CD's and old VHS movies last weekend, and on our way home I remembered this movie and wondered if I would remember to look for it next time we went. Then lo and behold I find it here on youtube!!!!!! Thanks again. It's one of my favorites!!! I haven't seen this movie since it first came out on TV.
@Thinkfree70 right? I saw this in school many times on the film projector, I guess they thought it was educational, well, emotionally educational for the purpose of respecting grandmas.
First time I've seen this. I was past school age when the film was made so I don't have any childhood memories connected with it like most folks watching seem to have. That said, the end was touching but the overall concept was more disturbing than comforting. Loss is a natural part of life that kids have to learn to accept, so from a psychological standpoint it does surprise me that this was sanctioned for in-school viewing by young children.
@caftw11 Would you know a link to the full movie rather than five parts? I've had some difficulty concatenating the parts together with the tools I have. Thanks!
Oh man what memories. I was Grade 5 here in Toronto -about 1984- and yes like others have said, it was a film we watched on our projector in class near the end of the school year (I remember the class windows being open, warm breeze coming in and the black curtains drawn closed) It does seem like such a random thing to watch now but we all loved it and is it ever crazy to see it now on YouTube.
@domedips What school was it cause funny enough I have that same memory. It's sooooo creepy that you should say that cause I was thinking where I was when I first saw it & you sum it right up so perfectly. I don't think the grades right but everything else fits even the city, what a small world we live in (lol). Thanks for the reminder Dome & caftw11 thanks for sharing this little gem no matter how creepy it is, it sure brings me back to my childhood. =d b=
I havent seen this in at least 25 years and i feared i would NEVER see it again.I cant wait to show it to my girls. It still makes me cry, and it brings out so many important emotions that doctors spend so much time barrying.human emotion is so important and it helps us deal with things proprely no matter how much it hurts.we all need the electric grandmother:)
i just saw this movie in school today i thought it was so sad and amazing i absolutly loved and i just cant believe i found it here i just had to see it again :)
Somebody really needs to start a petition, that other people can sign, to NBC or whoever currently owns the rights to this movie, to convince them to re-master it and re-release it on DVD and Bluray. I wish I knew how or I would do it. I'm sure it would sell well. They should also add features such as the making of the film and what the surviving cast members are up to now, especially the kids. If anyone is interested in starting this petition I would definitely be interested in signing it.
HOLY CRAP...YouYube is the GREATEST THING....EVER!!! THANK YOU a thousand times over for posting this!!!! I have not seen this since the EARLY 80's. What a great treat!!
My mother loves this movie all she does is rant and rave about it, she gave a copy of it to my niece's no they will enjoy it as did all my sisters, its funny because my brothers and I don't remember watching it and Mom says we all did.
I remember watching this movie in 2nd or 3rd grade. I'm now 31 and for some reason this movie has NEVER left my mind. FREAKED ME OUT AS A KID!! Especially that "Agatha" song! I decided to google it today and found this. Thank God for YouTube and the ability to relive childhood memories.
WOW this is so rare and not on the 65 episode discs of Ray Bradbury Theater. the one and only thing as a kid next to children of the corn that use to CREEP me out. Million thanks for posting.
WOW... Please tell me how you got this movie & where I might be able to find it. as far as I know it is out of print. Buying it brand you'll pay 123.00 American for it & used for 20... This movie has been a family favorite for generations... I have only been able to tell my wife about this movie & you really cant explain it all. Ray Bradbury is a Genius when it comes to writing great Fiction. King & Koontz have nothing on Bradbury. The true king of suspense. I am willing to pay for a copy.
i totally agree!! thank you so much for posting this - i also saw it for the first time on a movie projector in the mid 80's. We watched it on the last day of the school year in elementary school, and school ended before the movie did - so I never got to see the end, and have ALWAYS wondered what happened! you're totally my hero for posting this so I can finally see the end (like 25 years after the fact)!
yes indeed, a major find! now if only I could find this cartoon special that was a school teacher called Ms. Witch who truned out to be a real witch. Two of her school kids (a boy & girl) learned of her powers on accident &........well the rest in toon history. I can't remember the name, if any one knows please pm me.
I loved this movie when I was like 7 yrs old!, but it was realllllly creepy and sad to me :) Thanks for posting no one ever knew what I was talking about when we were flashin back on 80's movies...
I used to watch this at our city library. They'd play this for us kids and the public too in their media room. Yes, we watched this on a projector. Wow, what a blast from the past. I thought I'd never see this ever again and thought I'd have to go digging for it somewhere, somehow. Thanks for sharing!
thank you so much for posting this! i've been looking for it for years. my mom used to sing the "turn about, round about" song to me when i was little...
Wow - Thank you for posting this - I thought it was lost to the world. It's one of the most touching films I've ever seen and it made me cry so hard from pure sadness when I was young. Just seeing the opening credits brings that sad sentimental feeling back to me - especially now that I'm getting older myself. Thank you.
Holy crap, I remember this movie.. I'm completely sure it was this movie because all I remember was the robot gramma and the three pieced heart.. Trippy.
Does anyone remember a movie that was also played in elementary school just like this one in the same time era that was about a little girl who lived in a apartment and one day she was watching her TV and a black woman came on the TV and told her she could make 3 wishes.. Thats about all I can remember.. Can anyone help?
NO WAY! I kept thinking this was something I dreamt of watching at school! But this is a CRAZY memory! Why did they show it to us in school? Random. But how fun to see how many more people out there had this same memory! WOW - just... WOW... thanks for this!!
Saw this when I was about 10 and loved it to death, it's based on one of my favorite Ray Bradbury short stories. Thanks for posting it, I haven't seen it in ages! Used to have it on Beta tape, for cripes sake.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!! i have not seen this movie since ...OMG 1984 on an actual film projector!! ?!!! AHHHHH!!! I am going to watch this later for sure! Thanks for the blast from the past!!!
I was shown this movie when I was in preschool on 8mm film.. it scared the shit out of me... this is the first time I have seen it since I was 5 years old. I tried to purchase it, but its been out of print for a number of years.
