  • Beautiful ♥

  • que mal cover, no le entrega ningun valor adicional a la cancion, para eso escucho la original ...

  • @srgiobm "Que mál cover, no le entrega ningun valor adicional a la cancion." His voice is gorgeous, man. Quit being a hater.

  • This song is too short

  • Yeah I appreciate Elliot Smith, I like Jeff Buckley as well, duh!

  • One of the most talented artists I've ever listened to. He's up there with the best...nobody knew about him. I think that adds to the beauty of it. Maybe most people didn't deserve the pleasure of experiencing his music.

  • One of the better Beatles cover I eared, the best Beatles cover is still the one of THE VINES, I'm Only Sleeping.

  • Wow.

  • Es la voz de Elliott Smith en pistas superpuestas???? Me encanto!!!!!!!!!! Que buena voz.

  • chills :D

  • heaven must be a blast, john n Elliott are prob. writing songs together, oh boy i hope to hear them when die :D

  • @hipstersgonnahate lol, i don't think that's how it works..that'd be radical though

  • Thumbs up if you immediately heard, "You never give me your money..." in your head at the end of this!!!!

  • 2:09 is kurt cobain at the age of 8

  • Comparing The Beatles to Elliot Smith is like comparing platinum to gold. Both are rare and both are valuable. If The Beatles are a better, it might just come down to them being first, being four, and to being the very template that Elliot Smith often used to make his own music. Both are excellent.

  • When this played after american beauty I almost came to tears.Such a perfect song to end with.

  • oh my god, this is my favorite beatles song. somebody very recently turned me on to Elliott Smith. giving me chills. dont really like the music too much but the vox... wow... could not possibly be done better

  • Wow, this is incredible. Beautifully done. Elliott Smith certianly is an artist

  • Gorgeousness.

  • I love the beatles but this is better

  • @adivinity NOT

  • @janpyszka who knows? It could have been the right wing culture warriors, who don't want voices like elliott's heard. Elliott was an extremely psychically powerful person. He had a kind of power to project images that only happens in a very small number of people. His peers include Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Lennon and a few others. Truth is, if you're such a gifted one, you join them or they fuck you.

  • ..I know I shouldn't say this, but I prefer it to The Beatles' original

  • @MyAlexDelarge i like both

  • @MyAlexDelarge it's almost identiical to the beatles only no music at first. lol.

  • One word AWESOME!!!! And John would have been proud.

  • wouldn't john be proud?

  • Beautifullllllllllllll

  • I can´t belive this is not beatles!

  • Speaking as a recovering heroin addict there have been numerous times I've considered killing myself rather than taking the spike again. Its a fucked existence that can show its head at any time and convince you to do the most insane things imagineable. Even if he had been off it for a year or two which is hard for any addict of any drug or alcohol. Nobody ever forced me nor him to shoot up but its still the most incredibly difficult struggle to either live with or when you are trying to kick.

  • @WurTheDopeAtBoy

Very few people realize "Hell has many mansions too" drug addiction is just one of them. I commend you for the moment you chose life, I applaud you for the moment you chose to be honest about it right here right now. Sometimes life struggles are only to give us insight into the human condition. Use this pain, use this struggle to make your life and the world better because you are here!

Trust me you have already changed one life...mine!

    Forever Miralces.

    Reiolite.

  • well reading reviews from his close friends, producers and colleagues alike it would seem that they had different views from you. He had a new excitement about him. Close friends have a better opinion than someone guessing. For a start his main vice was Alcohol not Heroin.Plus do you not think it would have been easier to buy some Heroin and enjoy it than to stab yourself in the heart a few of times? There are too many things that dont add up in this case but hey ur opinion is as worthy as mine!

  • His step father beat the hell out him also

  • @apatheticempathy Don't make shit up, idiot. Not even his best friends ever confirmed that, and you're saying it on youtube as if you know.

  • @DanWillett Fu ya moron, he stated it in and interview. Its common knowledge.

  • @apatheticempathy No he didn't, again, stop making things up dickhead

  • i have your back

  • musical genuis who is no longer with us .

    Suicide.

God knows what fantastic music he would have made.

  • @apatheticempathy

It was never proven one way or another. Get your facts straight dumbfuck

  • @abazaba8910

I don't think that apatheticempathy mean't it in a bad way so go easy!! I find it hard to believe that anyone could stab themselves in the heart twice!!! I really dont think the body's impulse would allow it to happen. Then to have cuts on the inside of your hand as if you were trying to resist?? The fact that he was totally clean from drink and drugs for 6 months and overly excited about bringing his new album out makes you think. but media called it suicide - idiots !!!

  • @abazaba8910

Who the hell do you think your talking to ? How DARE YOU. Your slut mother should have swallowed that night.

  • Do you think he recorded this before or after he wrote "I didn't understand"?

  • isn't this the one in american beauty?

  • @guitarchinny11 yes there's so much beauty in the soundtrack sometimnes i think my heart will explode

  • @cordfluidnevoie hahaah yes! it was actually funny when I found out this was on the soundtrack because I thought american beauty had so much passion and allusion, and when I started listening to Elliott I found the same type of things in his music; relief that you will never be alone in thinking in that way...if that makes sense?

  • @guitarchinny11 ah passion kinesthetic. i'm in love with his music!

  • HOLY SHEEEEET THIS IS AMAZING

  • i miss him.so much...elliott??? you stabbed yourself twice in the heart??!1?? at least your pain is over..

  • genial... el mejor cover que he escuchado, brutal, sin palabras.

  • so melting....

  • For you, Brad, I got five.

  • very nice cover. Course if I had to choose between the Beatle's back catalogue and Elvis's back catalogue I know which i'd choose .. uh huh huh. The King forever

  • I always thought Nirvana - The Man Who Sold the World was my favourite cover..... now I'm not so sure

  • @edh144 You're not very demanding, are you?

  • fuck yeah.

  • I never wanna hear the beatles version again...

  • R. William Murphy - music :)

  • instant chills

    I am crying

    :')

  • Love this from American Beauty <3

  • John would be proud!

  • I am a musician who is greatly inspired by Elliott Smith, Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos, Daniel Johnston, Bright Eyes, and Radiohead. I post videos of my art and songs on my channel. Click my name, and check it out.

  • ok first let me thank Rolling Stone for their question of the weekend and now thanks to elliot smith! officially a fan. breathtakingingly beautiful!!!

  • I wonder if this is where they got the idea for the LOVE version of Because?

  • WOW.

  • if you are not a robot, you will enjoy this version of because tremendously:

    watch?v=1mycNuuJalA

  • IF YOU LIKE ELLIOTT SMITH, CHECK OUT RENEE GOUST soundcloud/reneegoust

  • 11 people need to take their stupid pants off.

  • I like this. And I hate almost all beatles covers

  • Amazing take on an old song. I am north of 60 years old and I remember when this was newer than now and it's great to see a contemporary artist doing this with it.

  • I'd like to think Lennon would enjoy this remake. It's so hard to cover Beatles songs, but he nailed it.

  • oh i meant to say Elliott had a good ear.. just read about him RIP =(

  • u have a good ear :D

  • 0:25-0:27 nooo

  • Sweeeeet

  • definitely feel chills...

  • ei rapziada

    assistam

    oghi - dance balance

  • This cover of the song actually got me more interested in the Beatles. I first heard it in the end credits of American Beauty, and wanted to see who wrote it. Now, I know the Beatles much better, but this cover was effective enough for me to get me interested in who wrote such a beautiful song.

An excellent cover of a wonderful Beatles song.

  • John would have loved Elliott

  • @cwegers1 hopefully they have both started a little band wherever they are right now, elliott, john, and george

  • @cwegers1 who the f*#&k is John?

    you mean John Lennon?

lol, his kinda hippie but i enjoy his song

BTW THIS SONG IS HIPNOTIZING *-* THEY SHOULD HAVE TAKE A LOT OF LSD TO MAKE IT *_*

  • @Rey10321 Yeah I mean John Lennon , because he wrote this f$%&*#n song!!

  • @cwegers1 This version is easily superior tbh no disrespect ^_^

  • @DCshirley Sure it is.

  • @Rey10321 You're grammar leaves much to be desired....

  • @jirdimaster check yourself "you're" is a contraction of "you are" asshole. get your grammatical shit in a pile.

  • @cwegers1 Ever "Imagine" what it would sound like if they recorded together? /watch?v=WuqVYj_S6w0

  • @cwegers1 I'm sure he does. Wherever they are...

  • @cwegers1 What about Paul, Ringo and George all liking him while they were alive? They all would have heard this cover and most likely lots of of his original work. Serisouly why personlize our love for great artists by envisioning them as our own by using another musician who died young to emphasise that they were on the same page. Serisouly have a good fucking think about what you've said here and why? This is damaging as It is most certainly not celebrating the artist.

  • @solidheir I have had a good think about what I said and why . Your right , what a total cunt I am , what a stupidly reckless thing to say . I just want to apologize to all the people out there who I have damaged , and especially you solidheir, as I suppose you were just innocently surfing the net without a care in the world until you came across my demented , psychotic comment . I am now going to disconnect the internet , and pack my bag for the Camino de Santiago .Thankyou sorry and adios.

  • @cwegers1 maybe they've got met somewhere ????

  • @cwegers1 I'm sure they're jamming right now :)

  • He was such a beautiful voice.

  • uninteresting, imho.

  • Awesome... John would like it ( IMHO)

  • now the song actually has meaning to me, cuz he sang it.... <3

  • A very difficult song to cover and yet he's done it!! hats off to him.

  • 0:25

    that train photobombed

also amazing song covered perfectly by an amazing man

  • amazing cover. sorry, but imo, better than the original!

  • "You never give me your money..."

Sorry, I can't hear this without hearing that.

  • how could someone be so violently addicted to crack and heroin and still record something this beautiful?

  • @TheDanification No, you're not being glib at all...

  • @reclusivesage the comment is sincere. you can take it anyway you like.

  • @TheDanification You're right. I thought he just had a drinking problem. I didn't realize he had other addictions, as well.

  • @reclusivesage oh i see. yeah well i just read that on wikipedia...so who knows if its true. but regarding elliott's death, i believe he was murdered. the autopsy said he had defensive wounds on his hands at the time of death. sounds like he was warding off a knife attack...

  • @TheDanification I have to say, after reading more about it, it seems fishy. I figured the "he was murdered" stuff was just because people are more ok with homicide than suicide, for whatever reason (like Kurt Cobain). But I think all you can say at this point is what the coroner's report says: inconclusive.

  • so SO brilliantly done

  • my favorite Beatles song and Elloitt nailed it spot on!

  • Beatles's version is the best!

  • @csomabence the go listen to it fuckwad

  • Finally, a guy who doesn't butcher a Beatles song.

  • real pain is stabbing yourself in the stomach the way Elliot Smith did, RIP dear singer

  • @vintageexcellence thats not entirely true. He supposedly stapped himself twice in the heart while his girlfriend had locked herself in another room. Suspicious marks were found on his arm as after a struggle. As far as I know the case is still open.

  • @JimmyJosafat ive got an idea, how bout u go troll some were where you arent disrespecting one of the finest musicians to ever grace this peice of shit called a world

  • @Mochme Gay

  • RIP E.S, I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART.

  • With all due in respect to Elliott Smith (whom I love dearly), you can get away with a lot of things when you pass away...

  • R.I.P. Elliot. Poor guy had it bad here on earth.

  • I knew this voice sounded familiar when I saw American Beauty. I am usually a vocal critic of beatles covers, but this is beautifully and tastefully done.bravo elliot RIP.

  • @JesseJamesAXnXeX As far as being a critic of Beatles covers, you should goto 'Howard Stern McCartney interview Part 4' and hear what Paul says about Beatle cover versions.. Fan of Stern or not, he gets to the bottom, and the aforementioned interview, front to back, is excellent.

  • better than the Beatles....

  • @youandyamum now that's disrespecting.

  • @danielibertine - & we can't have that now, can we?!

  • R.I.P

  • 1 question: Why did you die?

  • I've missed you Elliott. . still the most hauntingly beautiful voice. . and gentle kind soul. . I pray you are happy now. . making music in the next world. . Thanks for posting this song. .He loved the Beatles so much, as I do. .

  • What a pity.

  • Oddly enough this sounds exactly the same to the "because" from Across The Universe.

  • @christopher2step I agree, it does sound a lot like the Across the Universe version. There may be some inspiration.

  • is it just me or does this guy look like snape with a beanie

  • @TheAlliesCanHelp YOU SEE IT TOO?! :L

  • you know, i always think it's fucked up that i heard about this guy AFTER he wasted himself... it's a fucking shame, i would have loved to see him live.

  • I think I'm going to cry. God, such a loss to the world.

  • @thejarz American Beauty OST but an outtake from XO

  • what album is this song off of?

  • You were the greatest Elliott , miss you

  • Wow. I mean, WOW. This is an EXCELLENT cover. His voice fits the song perfectly.

  • Going to try and get a top rated comment for the first time by saying the 7 dislikes is rediculous but they fucking ARE!

  • @brownstreaks69 When you make a pathetic bid for attention, it's best not to label it as such.

  • uh, Elliott recorded to tape, not protools. couldn't have auto-tuned if he wanted to.

  • Ok this might be a dumb question but is the high pitch voice his too?

  • @NarsitaGrr Yes it is

  • @pathammond Absolutely Amazing!!!

  • @NarsitaGrr Yeah. He had a hell of a range.

  • In response to the people below, he might have used "pitch correction", and that's normal...just fixes a slightly out of tune note in the studio...who wouldn't do that if you could?

  • auto tune sounds terrible, cant you tell the difference?

Elliott would never use auto tune

  • wow

  • There's clearly no auto tune. The dude can sing

  • To all those saying Smith used AutoTune or "pitch correction" technology or what have you, get a clue. Real singers and musicians have this thing called integrity. He was just that good.

  • @somasatellite79

Everybody uses autotune nowadays. Besides allowing a perfect recording, it's also a lot cheaper for the record companys, cuz it saves a lot of time. If the beatles had it back then. they would also have used it

  • @xRafael77x You're woefully misguided.

  • Great Homage

  • I love so much the Beatles but have to admit Elliott rules ! The song belongs to you, great man !

  • i remember this at the end of american beauty, what a perfect way to end it, with a perfect cover like this

  • The Beatles are the best- the Beatles wrote it and sung it perfectly acapella and with instrumentation versions- and they didn't have autone or technology to help.

  • @4FabBEATLES Elliot smith recorded all analogue, he didn't have pitch shifters and whatnot.

  • Comment removed

  • The effect on the vocals sound like a robotic tube.

  • I get chills. One of my favorite Beatles songs covered absolutely perfectly. Oh my gosh.

  • @starr522 Whoa..really? Have you heard the original? This is an exceptional cover. Explain why you think this is crap.. I'm sure we're all wondering..

  • moonlight sonata...backwards =D

  • @starr522

    wow

  • Yeah, I can hear the difference.

  • Who r The Beatles?

  • @cabaret67

    HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! ;)

  • @cabaret67

    LOL!

    quote of the day

  • before pitch correction. there's no way elliott would allow digital pitch tuning.

    just do the take again.

  • pitch correction on the top. but very good

  • Wow, how can anyone say anything bad about this? Fuck you guys.

  • after hearing Elliotts song I didn't understand I always thought he would be great at covering this song

  • hate to say it... but I don't like it. just sounds like a "look what I did for vocal workout today in my home studio" - don't get me wrong it's awsome... but, I just don't like it compaired to the Beatles versions.

  • KISS ALIVE II !!!!
