The creators of this movie should've just made it so the Germans won at Stalingrad which would make this movie alot more believable.
In fact, they should've had the Germans win the Battle of Britain. This would have crippled the Royal Air Force, leaving the Luftwaffe with complete control of the skies over Britain. The invasion of Britain would have commenced, and Germany would have been victorious. Then they would be able to fight Russia with all of its manpower, instead of a two-front war. Germany would have then easily defeated the USSR.

So much money, materials and personnel, as well as hopes for ultimate victory, went into the invasion. If it had not worked, I think people would have been pissed at the Allied leaders, and some probably would have wanted to quit.

I know this is clearly not the intention of either the book or the movie.... But this still looks like a much better deal for Eastern Europe (and Western Europe, actually) than what actually happened: Communist domination and leftist-mutlikulti.
In the novel most of Western Europe remains untouched. Germany never really planned on a massive western continental empire. They wanted a massive expansion into eastern Europe, to have their "living space." The rest of western Europe would probably just have to be more economically dependent on a new German Empire.

PLEASE READ THE BOOK!!!! I read the book; it was awesome. I watched the film; it was crap. In the book, the Nazis win at the Battle of Stalingrad and Russia surrenders, the Germans discover the British have cracked the Enigma code, change their codes and starve Britain into submission and send a long-range missile to explode in the sky above new york. That makes sense. The bullshit in the film makes no sense - the Russians were pwning Germany's ass in 1944, there was no stopping them.

Yeah this intro doesn't really explain it that well. In the book the Allies refused to supply the communist soviet regime with weapons and Hitler managed to cut off the red army off from their oil supplies in the caucasus.

There is no doubt that if the atomic bomb had been ready in 1944 that the allies would have dropped it on Berlin. Plans were already in effect for this but delays at Los Alamos prevented this.

Even if D-day had been a failure, I doubt we would have so readily withdrawn from the war. By 1944, North Africa, Sicily and southern Italy were under Allied control. We wouldn't have been so eager to "give it all back."
I suspect if D-day had been a failure, we would have resorted to our "atomic option," ordered our scientists at Los Alamos to work "double time" and dropped the first A-bombs on either Berlin, Dresdin or Munich.

Dropping the Atomic Bomb on a German target would have been difficult, but not impossible. It most likely would have been a suicide mission, sending a bomber armed with The Bomb, surrounded by a fleet of Allied decoy bombers and fighters. Meanwhile, German jet fighters would undoubtedly decimate the Allied air fleet, but The Bomb would be delivered. The resulting blast wiping-out the target city, and probably all aero-combatants as well!
You might want to check your history books. The American A bomb program was headed by exiled Jewish European scientist and American graduate students. America didn't steal these scientist any more than Von Braun stole Robert Goddard's rocket research.

Then by 1942 Germany controlled most of Russia, so they had the resources to defend Italy properly. If you read the book everything is much more plausible, the movie suxed. And the british fleet got sunk.

thats really what we should have done in the first place, A-bombed berlin. but remember that berlin would have been declared a military target, not a civilian target, like hiroshima or nagasaki.... so we would have had to fight off the luftwaffe wayyyy before we could have ever bombed berlin... it would have been to heavily defended

Of course, another option would be to use an extremely accurate long-range ballistic missile. However, the V-2 was one of a kind, and only in German hands. It was a very narrow squeak for Britain there and could so easily have ended differently. Also, that was the time when Hitler was at his peak. I doubt the failure of D-Day would have made HItler triumphant because he was already over-stretched, fighting the war on two fronts and wearing Germany out - but tell him that!

This movie was an adaptation of the book Fatherland by Robert Harris and the explanation for how the Nazis won in the book is more plausible. 1. The Germans opened a second offensive into the Caucasus thus cutting off the Soviet Union's oil supply, 2. They figure out the enigma code was broken, recalled their subs and then sent them out where they strangle Britain into submission, 3. They detonate an A-bomb and shoot a long range rocket that blows up over New York proving that they can.
Beyond that the movie doesn't really diverge from the book until the end. What I liked about this alternate history is both the book and movie refute the notion that the Nazis were an unstoppable jugernaut that could conquer the world. The reality is even if they won in the Soviet Union they would have an endless conflict because of the Nazi's view of the slavic people who they planned to subjugate or destroy.
Agree. Had they conquered all of Europe..and let us assume their depending empires they would have been dreadfully overstreched. The budget and all of germany's resources would have to be dedicated to maintain the empire trying to put fires of rebelion here and there. The invasion of Britain would have commenced, and Germany would have been victorious. Then they would be able to fight Russia with all of its manpower, instead of a two-front war. PLEASE READ THE BOOK!!!! I read the book; it was awesome. I watched the film; it was crap. In the book, the Nazis win at the Battle of Stalingrad and Russia surrenders, the Germans discover the British have cracked the Enigma code, change their codes and starve Britain into submission and send a long-range missile to explode in the sky above new york. That makes sense. The bullshit in the film makes no sense - the Russians were pwning Germany's ass in 1944, there was no stopping them.

i like the movie and i need the book. some of you are right though i dont think if D day failed we would have quit. the bomb would probably had been used on berlin then and we may have tried to invade germany though italy. we had taken much of italy by 44
And the soviet union had destroyed much of the german army by 44. even without the american sucesses, the sovets would have made it to berlin in a few more years regardless

Even if D-day had been a failure, I doubt we would have so readily withdrawn from the war. By 1944, North Africa, Sicily and southern Italy were under Allied control. We wouldn't have been so eager to "give it all back."
I suspect if D-day had been a failure, we would have resorted to our "atomic option," ordered our scientists at Los Alamos to work "double time" and dropped the first A-bombs on either Berlin, Dresdin or Munich.
You can take it from there......

Dropping the Atomic Bomb on a German target would have been difficult, but not impossible. It most likely would have been a suicide mission, sending a bomber armed with The Bomb, surrounded by a fleet of Allied decoy bombers and fighters. Meanwhile, German jet fighters would undoubtedly decimate the Allied air fleet, but The Bomb would be delivered. The resulting blast wiping-out the target city, and probably all aero-combatants as well!

You might want to check your history books. The American A bomb program was headed by exiled Jewish European scientist and American graduate students. America didn't steal these scientist any more than Von Braun stole Robert Goddard's rocket research.

@TheRebel2007 Per the book the Americans peaced out after they got nuked by Germany (New York via a V-3 missile). Then by 1942 Germany controlled most of Russia, so they had the resources to defend Italy properly. If you read the book everything is much more plausible, the movie suxed. And the british fleet got sunk.

@TheRebel2007 if germany repelled the allied in norwamdy, they could relocate troops to italy and take back the peninsula, but the most likly senario (i think) would be that when hitler had managed to get enough strenght to the eastern front, it would either end in a stalemate, russian victory or the nazis inventing the a-bomb too and nuke soviet (german victory)

If I was Hitler, I wouldn't even have opened up a second front against Russia. At least not yet. I would have devoted all resorces on Great Britain.

@TheRebel2007 Not quite. The only way the yanks would've been able to drop an A-bomb on any German cities is if they had complete domination of air space. Of course, another option would be to use an extremely accurate long-range ballistic missile. However, the V-2 was one of a kind, and only in German hands. The Americans would've never wasted so much money on such an improbable mission, and also motivate Hitler to create his own A-bomb.

It was a very narrow squeak for Britain there and could so easily have ended differently. Also, that was the time when Hitler was at his peak. I doubt the failure of D-Day would have made HItler triumphant because he was already over-stretched, fighting the war on two fronts and wearing Germany out - but tell him that!

This movie was an adaptation of the book Fatherland by Robert Harris and the explanation for how the Nazis won in the book is more plausible. 1. The Germans opened a second offensive into the Caucasus thus cutting off the Soviet Union's oil supply, 2. They figure out the enigma code was broken, recalled their subs and then sent them out where they strangle Britain into submission, 3. They detonate an A-bomb and shoot a long range rocket that blows up over New York proving that they can.

Beyond that the movie doesn't really diverge from the book until the end. What I liked about this alternate history is both the book and movie refute the notion that the Nazis were an unstoppable jugernaut that could conquer the world. The reality is even if they won in the Soviet Union they would have an endless conflict because of the Nazi's view of the slavic people who they planned to subjugate or destroy.

Agree. Had they conquered all of Europe..and let us assume their depending empires they would have been dreadfully overstreched. The budget and all of germany's resources would have to be dedicated to maintain the empire trying to put fires of rebelion here and there. That plus the use of slave labour would be enough to reduce the incentive to develop civil technology. As the afghans say you can stand with the help of a bayonet but you can not sit on it.

the nazi's could easily have ruled europe. they would have had the manpower,resources and efficiency to crush any rebellions. the soviet union managed to rule for decades and they were huge. also you mistake the nazi for a modern democratic country. countries like UK and USA fighting rebels at the moment only fight enemy combatants and have to win people over. nazis would decimate entire areas if they had to. which historically works very well

Life would be not the same if Nazi Germany won the war with a Stalemate with the US. In Theroy British/French/Dutch/Spanish/Beligum/Portaugese Empires would have come under Nazi Germany!
